maybe we should put 10000 volts through them. They, the board, might go Vroom.

AOC boss Matt Carroll sad for rugby's demise

I thought RA was really going to start firing after Raelene too……but they are resigning instead

CONFIRMED: Peter Wiggs resigns from Rugby Australia board

Very good Rhys.

Australian rugby successfully self-quarantines against the Kiwi success virus

In the interest of the greater good and the safety of everyone, it is right that the competition should be suspended and I for one applaud their decisiveness in this. But, c’mon, how good would it be to see an inform and awesome Reds take on the sublime Brumbies!!!!

Brumbies hopeful of continuing Super surge despite corona threat

There was a lot to like about the Reds.
Positives: They did not lose their heads after a very poor first 10 minutes. They conceded a try and then scored one of their own straight away. Harry Wilson obviously has not been told he is only 20 yrs old. He is playing with such heart and skill that you would expect from a much older player. The backs performed well and the forwards generally were good. Shout out to LSL for being a handful and has anyone noticed how Tupou is playing the full game and has not conceded a card for awhile now. It seems tome that he is concentrating on support play and not just thuggish hits in the clean out.
Negatives: The set piece has disappeared. What happened to the rock solid scrum? Where has the line out gone? The Jock Campbell conundrum….he has so many good points at the moment. He really can cut a defence to shreds if given the chance, but is that enough to put a better goal kicker in Hegarty on the bench?
Overall, there were two teams evenly matched yesterday, the Reds left too many points on the field again to come away with the win. I did not think there was much of a second half fade as there has been. Judging on results, I would have to say maybe a Sharks Chiefs final, which could go either way. As for the Reds, they are still continuing their upwards trajectory and will finish the season much better then they started. A finals berth would not surprise me.

Noble Reds defeats frustrate Thorn

I’m going for the Reds to have a blinder against the Crusaders, for the penny to finally drop about how to play consistently and then to win the competition.
Okay, maybe not.
But as a Reds fan, I desperately want to see them win, not just compete. I believe that they will lead again at half time and this time they will go on with it.
Surely they will do that….
Surely…….

Super Rugby Round 6: Wollongong is beautiful this time of year

The big difference between Lynagh and Stewart is that Lynagh was an outstanding fly half at schoolboy level and Stewart was a breakaway. Lynagh was sublime in the Terrace 1st XV in 1980 and 1981. He was always going to be a legend. Stewart may end up being a legend, I hope he does, but he was a forward learning to be a back.

Super Rugby Round 6 teams: Beale to skipper injury-hit Waratahs, huge injury blow for Reds

I’m so looking forward to this game. It will be hot and humid in Brisbane today and sticky tonight. The Sharks are good, no denying that, but I feel and believe that the Reds are building well this season and will take the game up to the Sharks tonight. So many players in both teams who are in great form.

Reds by a nose.

'Fearless' Reds face two-week Super test

Reds v Sharks: There is no way I’m tipping the Sharks…Reds all the way. They will start in front and finish in front. It was very pleasing to see Tupou not get carded or penalised last week. He needs to be aggressive but not thuggish. Running good support lines a big plus too. It will be a good game, no doubt. A Reds win would be huge in the scheme of things.

The other games: meh.

Rebels to show they are not truely a rabble but Highlanders may be too good in the end. An upset Rebels victory for me. Same with the Waratahs. If they win, it won’t be pretty. Jags over the Bulls and the Stomers to make the blues blue.

Lastly, the moon dogies to cause an upset and take one on the road against the canes. Beware the wounded moon doggy!!

Super Rugby Round 5: Reality bites

The Reds are looking good for a 2-1 start for the year. (2 WINS that is)

"At first it was a pretty hard pill to swallow": Rodda opens up on Reds captaincy miss

I wonder how many hits to the mouth you need before biting someone’s ear becomes a viable plan?

The Wallabies need to adopt a no Plan B selection culture

Personally, I would have liked to have seen more scrutiny on the individual players. Whether they knew or did not know what was going on, a greater deal of responsibility needs befall upon the players. Hopefully they will now look at their managers more closely and not hide behind the veil of “my manager handles my finances, it can not be my fault”. Perhaps if we make the players more liable financially, such as repaying overpayments then this issue may hopefully disappear.

English champions Saracens to be relegated for salary cap breach

Great article. And here I was thinking I’m the only fool paying for Foxtel just for the rugby.

Foxtel versus rugby: The next battle

As a strong Reds supporter, you can add Brad Thorn’s name to that list as well. I have watched with hope growing for the last 2 seasons as the Reds squad slowly blossomed. I wasn’t too concerned with where they finished last year because to me, they seemed to be in their games for much longer periods. This should be a good year for the Reds. Their squad remains unchained in terms of potential save for the departure of Kerevi. This is the year that the Reds have to put the other Australian teams to the sword. If they are to be true contenders this World Cup cycle, then it has to start this year.

It’s a big Super Rugby season ahead for…

Hi Slane. There is such a production line of players coming through the league development pathway that today’s champion is tomorrow’s former great. Just like the teeth on a shark, individually they are great and a formidable weapon, but there is always another one behind it waiting to take its place.

Confirmed: Storm star Vunivalu switching to rugby

My understanding has been that the Storm only really paid top dollar for stars, if they had to. Mostly they paid minimum possible for rejects and unknowns and turned them into stars.

Confirmed: Storm star Vunivalu switching to rugby

The Reds back line is looking better and better. 👍

I always thought the Swedish Chef from the Muppets had captain material written allover him. He would be great talking to the refs.

103 people more likely to captain the Wallabies than Israel Folau

I agree. Hopefully he wasn’t employed by the Broncos in the run up to the finals and their shocking exit. Their lack of defence was pitiful.

Dave Rennie inks deal to become next Wallabies coach

Thanks for the article Nick. I don’t really care who coaches the Wallabies, it can’t be worse than the last 4 years of tunnel vision coaching that we have had. In my opinion, we are in a similar position to the Aussie cricketers in the 80’s when Allan Border had the captaincy thrust upon him. My recollections were that there was a few bumpy years then a golden era lasting for a decade or more.

In order to rise up the ranks of the rugby ranks, we are going to have to have a more ruthless approach to success. The game has changed in the last 2 years and we need to change as well. Our ability to embrace change, jettison old notions of “Australian style” and only wanting a Australian coach, will ultimately determine wether the Wallabies rise to greatness or sink into obscurity.

Is Rennie the right coach? Only time will tell. But when looking at our crickets, we need someone to build the foundation for success to follow.

The Dave Rennie casebook: Can a Kiwi coach the Wallabies again?

It was one poorly thrown line out from a humiliation

All Blacks all over: England knock New Zealand out of Rugby World Cup

Well played England

All Blacks all over: England knock New Zealand out of Rugby World Cup

Dear Mr Cheika,

Thank you for epitomising the phrase of bringing a knife to a gun fight.
Yes we competed, and we won one or two as well, but thank you for the gritty way that Australian Rugby has been remembered for over the last 5 years.

Cheika and Australian Rugby Union's triumphs should be praised, not dismissed

I have been reading the comments and I have given my suggestions for the coaching staff for the wallabies much thought. I’m not sure if any of my team is available, but they do represent my “Dream Team” so to speak.

Head Coach: Albus Dumbledore

Attack Coach: Sun Tzu backed up by Ethan Hunt (Mission Impossible) and /or Han Solo

Defence Coach: Any soldier who was a Rat of Tobruk

Contact (wrestling/tackling) Coach: Hulk Hogan

Mental Conditioning Coach: Mandrake the Magician

Fitness Coach: Mickey from Rocky i, ii or iii

But seriously, we need the best coach we can get our hands on. We need results, not another 4 years of someone telling us this is what Australians want, when really it was just how he wanted to coach. Are there problems with RA? Yes, but the best coach, male or female, should be approached to get the Wallabies up near the top where we once were.

VOTE: Who should be the next Wallabies coach?
