Played district Rugby as a teenager. Played at: - high school - Old Boys - Bank of NSW [Westpac] Was not especially good at any aspect, kept back for more pain and suffering until old enough to know better. My team - . Gordon Highlanders . Live by our High School motto of 'Know thyself' I'm a far better supporter than I ever was a player. . Loyal to the end, which I think could be the death of me.

It sure seems that way. As a country bloke, I was hoping Eddie would magically create interest in Rugby that the newspapers would be keen report on. Today though I headed to my favourite cafe with the Daily Tele and zip about Rugby Union, which was disappointing. The Mrs & I, all decked out in sky blue, watched the game on Stan and got into the spirit of things. I thought the crowd was very good. So obviously there’s interest there.

'Humble pie': Larkham's Brumbies spoil Waratahs party as young guns shine on Super Rugby debuts

TBH it took the news about Eddie Jones to spark my interest in Rugby. Now, when my Pommy mate and I catch-up on Skype, we’ll always discuss Rugby, the Wallabies and ‘what Eddie’s up to’. I’m also reading his book Eddie Jones again. Like him or lump him, he generates a lot of interest in the game. And boy oh boy do we need that or what? There’s been almost zero in the media for quite some time now. Let’s see if Eddie can stir the pot, as he loves to do, and get the media excited.

Who survives the coaching Hunger Games? Time running out for World Cup rush jobs to be successful

I don’t know whether Eddie can turn the Wallabies into a winning team again or not. What I do know is that just the news of Eddie coming coming onboard as Wallaby coach immediately sparked my interest in Rugby again. Like him or not, he does have that ability to create interest in Rugby and with that perhaps sponsors. And from there, better things are possible.

'Major coup': Rennie axed with Eddie Jones returning as Wallabies coach on mammoth deal for two Cups

I initially read it as Optometrists as detached from reality. But then I did visit OPSM yesterday. Ignore me. Please carry on.

'I’m the eternal optimist': Rennie's Wallabies pull off remarkable 21-point comeback as next gen stands up

I don’t understand why the inaccurate lineout throws are so hard to fix. 😢

'I’m the eternal optimist': Rennie's Wallabies pull off remarkable 21-point comeback as next gen stands up

‘Discipline is easy to fix’? Then how & where do you start with our blokes? I’m failing to understand why they just can not see it themselves.

Studs and duds: Wallaby 'lacks maturity of a Test player', naïve leaders panned after 'pissing off ref'

Yesterday I watched replays of the Under 16’s & 19’s finals (Qld v NSW). IMHO and based on what I saw, someone somewhere is doing something right.
Stan’s Rugby spoke of the structures of Irish Rugby and how it could well suit Australia’s requirements. I am hoping to hear more on this soon and if RA is looking at it.

REACTION: 'Gutted', 'hugely disappointing' - Shocking Taniela verdict after another heartbreak

The thing that I realised when I saw that Italy had rolled us, was that I was actually not in the least bit surprised. Then I spotted, but for some wayward goal kicking, that the men in blue could easily have made that quite a decisive win. I wish I could say that I’m seeing the answer. Surely though this constant ill discipline needs to be fixed asap. Is it technique, a team culture thing or something else?

It's pasta joke! Rennie defends mass changes as discipline a killer again in first-ever loss to Italy

I’m hoping that we have sorted out our ill discipline. It’d be great to play the full 80 with 15 on the park.

Wallabies team: Tahs pair set for debuts, Swain returns, as Rennie makes 11 changes to starting XV for Italy

My Pommie visitor & I, despite loving that tackle, had the same reaction. We watched it several times & thought it was no arms.

REACTION: 'Best winger in the world' - 'Mind blowing' Marika's magic delivers Wallabies epic win over Springboks

I thought we finally understood that in test footy you take the points on offer. What was he thinking?

REACTION: Perese and Petaia join Wallabies' devastating injury list as Eddie's England level series

Exactly mate. I’m as hopeful that the Wallabies are on the rise as the next bloke. However let’s just keep in mind that all our recent success has been on home soil. I want our guys to go out there in Oita & stamp their authority on the game, roll the Japanese big time & show the guys waiting in the UK that we are definitely back.

Fear factor must drive Wallabies against dangerous, nice Japan

I’m really looking forward to this game. While being a Wallaby supporter through thick & thin ( and boy there’s been a few of those), I’m also an admirer of The Sakura Boys and the way they approach the game. If we play away from home as well as we did at home, then I’ll be happy.

'We're going to back ourselves': Japan's battle cry ahead of Wallabies showdown

Not that Sonny would give a stuff, and fair enough too, but I have certainly learned a thing or two about the man that is worthy of my Respect.

The Wrap: Quade Cooper finds the sweet spot to bring the Wallabies home

I’m buzzing too. It’s delightful Spring weather, we’re finally out of lockdown, the Missus & I had a picnic lunch by the river. AND… the Wallabies snagged a win. What a day!!!! Just a quick word on Quade. I was highly impressed in the way he went about his job at training & then finally gained selection to demonstrate that he has an experienced cool head on his shoulders. He was just what the Doctor ordered tonight and could feel the team gaining confidence with him at the helm,

MATCH REPORT: 'He's a big game player. He said I've got it and he nailed it'

That’s a fair comment. It is sad & sums up how I feel. Drinking red wine after such disappointment somehow seems inappropriate. 😔

MATCH REPORT: Rennie called for a foot on the throat, but All Blacks' response was 'ruthless'

No Golden it’s not. It’s from finally listening to the good lady about managing one’s expectations. I have to say that the dog also preferred the new calmer lounge room environment. Not one cushion was fired at the tele in anger.

MATCH REPORT: Rennie called for a foot on the throat, but All Blacks' response was 'ruthless'

That seems a fair expectation to the old me. My observation was that the team simply lacks belief. And then on Stan out came SBW, who was a guest offering the NZ perspective I guess, with the same observation.

MATCH REPORT: Rennie called for a foot on the throat, but All Blacks' response was 'ruthless'

I have to say that there actually was real & obvious improvement. And that improvement was all about Attitude. Not the players Attitude but mine. You see unlike Test 1 & 2, where our household decked out in gold jerseys & other Wallaby attire and were pumped, just to be completely deflated. This time around we were relaxed, expected nothing much, got nothing much, and were not disappointed. I will continue to tune-in and watch the Wallabies but I now realise that zero expectation, an occasional glance at the TV while doing the crossword, and sipping coffee is far better for the old nerves than getting my hopes up. I’m not saying improvement won’t come. But it seems, not in my lifetime.

MATCH REPORT: Rennie called for a foot on the throat, but All Blacks' response was 'ruthless'

Mate, luckily for me my wife watched that game. That “perfect” comment from Mertens has made her rethink just how crap she thinks I am. So there is an upside. For me anyway. 😊

Reaction: Why thriller was 'almost perfect result' for Rennie

I hope you’re right mate, I really do. My greatest concern is in those he is accountable to, and I’m not talking about the fans. Also hope that his appointment will make some of the talent at the Tahs think twice about jumping ship.

Darren Coleman’s not the Messiah, he’s just bloody good

Initially I was thinking similar thoughts about great attack / shame about the crap defence. But then wondered ‘if the defence is THAT crap, then maybe the attack is actually not that great either’. I don’t know. My hope is that the Tahs come out of this a far better team in readiness for 2022.

Hurricanes outgun Waratahs in shootout

Cheers mate. TBH I wish I could shake the shackles of loyalty, as clearly it’s not in my best interests, the TV either nor the dog & others in the TV room while the Tahs are on. 😔 With the Rob Penney decision, and again this is probably my irrational loyalty kicking in, I would have retained him, and stuck with him to see if he can do a ‘Brad Thorn’ on the Tahs. Now when I hear the well worn phrase ‘he has the full support of the board’, my eyes roll 180 degrees. 😁

Waratahs intent on avoiding winless season

I knew it!!!! I just knew that I should NOT click on & read this article. Every fibre of my being warned me against reading it, and getting my hopes up for at least one win. But would I listen to my inner wise voice? NOT ME!!! I had to go & read it and start believing that we ‘re a chance of a win. Ahhhh!!!!!! Now I have to go warm up the oven for the pies, peel the spuds for the mash, get the peas ready to be squished, figure out how to make gravy and get that lovely red wine ready to sip for every point we score. Plus somehow cope with women concerned about what Rugby is doing to my mental health. Oh well…… GO THE TAHS!!!!!!! 😊

Waratahs intent on avoiding winless season

I mistook the headline for ‘Can anyone find MY lost minutes watching Rugby?’ Sorry about that 99! As a Tahs fan I see my time as a contribution to the sport that I am hooked on and can’t seem to kick the habit. Give me a week & I somehow forget the misery I underwent as I pushed my couch around the lounge room helping the boys pack the scrum. The dog, to its great credit, doesn’t even lift its head anymore when I start ranting & tossing things at the TV. No Tahs this weekend. Bugger! What am I going to spend my time doing?

Can anyone find rugby's lost minutes?
