Played district Rugby as a teenager. Played at: - high school - Old Boys - Bank of NSW [Westpac] Was not especially good at any aspect, kept back for more pain and suffering until old enough to know better. My team - . Gordon Highlanders . Live by our High School motto of 'Know thyself' I'm a far better supporter than I ever was a player. . Loyal to the end, which I think could be the death of me.

I knew it!!!! I just knew that I should NOT click on & read this article. Every fibre of my being warned me against reading it, and getting my hopes up for at least one win. But would I listen to my inner wise voice? NOT ME!!! I had to go & read it and start believing that we ‘re a chance of a win. Ahhhh!!!!!! Now I have to go warm up the oven for the pies, peel the spuds for the mash, get the peas ready to be squished, figure out how to make gravy and get that lovely red wine ready to sip for every point we score. Plus somehow cope with women concerned about what Rugby is doing to my mental health. Oh well…… GO THE TAHS!!!!!!! 😊

Waratahs intent on avoiding winless season

I mistook the headline for ‘Can anyone find MY lost minutes watching Rugby?’ Sorry about that 99! As a Tahs fan I see my time as a contribution to the sport that I am hooked on and can’t seem to kick the habit. Give me a week & I somehow forget the misery I underwent as I pushed my couch around the lounge room helping the boys pack the scrum. The dog, to its great credit, doesn’t even lift its head anymore when I start ranting & tossing things at the TV. No Tahs this weekend. Bugger! What am I going to spend my time doing?

Can anyone find rugby's lost minutes?

Actually I appreciate his vagueness & saying not much at all. His methods have managed to get me out of more than one tight spot with the Missus. 😁

Michael Cheika rules out full-time Waratahs return

Q.1. What could any coach do to & for the Tahs that Penney wasn’t trying to do?

Q.2. If Super teams can select & prepare based on who they’re playing. Does this mean the Wallabies are likely to as well?

Get your questions in for Issue 6 of Coach's Corner

I tried to spot improved performance with my sky blue eye first and then my optimistic eye next and it’s escaped me. But then I’m just an old fart that sits on a lounge chair watching the idiot box and who hasn’t strapped on boots in over 50 years, and even back then was poor to crap at Rugby. I’m curious as to where you are seeing the improvement/s?

Winless Waratahs axe Rob Penney

I’m at a loss as to whether this was a good or bad decision. Normally I’m a supporter of the idea that a failure to perform is 100% on the coach. However what did he have to work with & have they improved?
The answers I’m looking for are:
. Who on the board was asleep at the wheel & failed to ensure we had sufficient quality players on the roster for Penney to have made his mark?
. As ozinsa says below ‘how have the Tahs been improved by this decision?’; and finally
. Why did Penney take on this coaching nightmare?

Winless Waratahs axe Rob Penney

I keep living in hope of precisely that JC. It’s one of the motivations to tune into a flogging that you just know is headed your way.

Could the Waratahs deliver the upset of the season?

It was interesting. Hopefully sensible stuff learned from his time playing overseas. Upon reflection, I was hearing the commentators talk about shot at v corner option, and I may well have been swayed by them feeling 3 wasn’t going to be enough to get the Reds back in the game. (As my wife knows, I am easily swayed. 😢). Maybe it goes to show the difference between sitting at home, sitting in the commentary box or sideline and being on the field. Mind you. IF he’d of missed another time, we may be seeing it differently. It’s such a fine line.

The contest that set Super Rugby AU on fire in 2021

I wonder if many Qld fans slapped the foreheads with JOC taking the kick at goal instead of going for the corner? Even as an impartial I felt the corner was the better option. Just goes to show why he’s leading the team around & not me I suppose. Also enjoyed the contest of the forwards & their clear aspect for each other after the final whistle.

Great idea about getting someone ‘in the know’ on Stan. I have enjoyed watching my women’s rugby and look forward to viewing more games. I didn’t realise until reading what the women players have to go through compared to the men. The least we can do is support these dedicated rugby players.

Time will benefit Wallaroos Rugby World Cup campaign

‘Resigned to finishing last this year’? Mate I’ll be disappointed if we don’t. In all honesty I have zero expectations of a win for 2021. In reality all I’m looking for (and I’m guilty of being stubbornly loyal), is that they never throw-in the towel & start to improve in D and show some deception in attack. I’m probably not Robinson Crusoe in wondering how 2022 will be any better year for the Tahs. Sure as eggs are eggs, I’m expecting the Force to go up a level or two, and the others look set to power on. Where to for us? I want to be optimistic. But at the moment it looks like we’re hanging onto a match stick in a tidal wave.

Hope for the weeping Waratahs fan

Spot on! I usually suffer ‘what ever can go wrong, will go wrong’ where I live. But Stan has been very good. And I’ve got zero complaints about the commentary & game analysis. In fact I reckon it’s damn good. My only real gripe is that my team is not playing too well at the moment 😢 That though is 100% on me for being a Tahs fan. As the song goes ‘Love hurts’.

I’d be very interested to know what the Waratahs will be trying during their bye.

Waratahs coaching speculation tells us the NSWRU board is as mad as we feared

‘Not until the last 2 minutes was the ball in hand approach attempted’. I’ve been wondering about this phenomenon where the Tahs seem to find another gear after the siren. Look it’s probably all teams that do it, but I’m only interested in MY team ….. the Tahs.

Perhaps Penney needs to say to them at oranges, to play the last 20 minutes with that ‘kick up the date’ feeling they obviously get when the final hooter has just gone. Of course don’t go completely nuts with silly ‘not on’ passes, but play that high energy, treasure the ball footy & reduce errors.

Look no doubt Penney has a ton of ideas to get the show on the road, and when it’s all said and done, I’m just a below average Rugby IQ fan with no real idea of what I would do if I was the Tah coach. But clearly these guys can lift when required.

Tahs coach Penney under pressure after Force loss

Ha, ha. Evidently. 😔

Six talking points from Super Rugby AU and Aotearoa

Yeah you’re probably right. I’m now sorry that I didn’t do that. 😢

Six talking points from Super Rugby AU and Aotearoa

In the case of NSW last night… dead bloody right. We the fans need to see & feel that players at least have heart and respect for the team, the jersey & the fans. If I was coach I’d need to know that those building blocks are in place, then build from there.

Six talking points from Super Rugby AU and Aotearoa

Our ‘after the siren’ effort had me asking ‘why didn’t we play like this earlier in the game’? Now I’m just an average Joe Blow that follows NSW (after I’m done for the day on my farm), because I’ve always done it and I value loyalty. But I do have to wonder who is in charge of development & recruitment at NSW HQ of my team? Surely it was no surprise that players would be off overseas, so where’s the plan to replace them?
Normally after a loss I am feeling down & looking for what we might have done differently to win that game. But last week & this week I had resigned myself to the fate of it all. IF we pull off a single win I will be surprised. I ask is that how NSW HQ want their fans to feel?

Six talking points from Super Rugby AU and Aotearoa

As a Tahs fan…..that was hard to swallow. But I am choosing to believe that we played better tonight than last week. Either that or my expectations have hit an all time low. That was a seriously well drilled Ponies outfit that we came up against. Well done Canberra. I am in for the long haul with the Tahs & am looking for small increments of improvement to give me hope for later down the track.

Embarrassingly easy Nic White try sums up another ugly night for the Tahs

Tahs got done like a dinner. 😢 Stan providing such good coverage, interviews & commentators might have eased the pain slightly. 😊

The Roar's Super Rugby AU season preview: Queensland Reds

Definitely not enough acknowledgement to the Pumas team, staff and supporters, as blokes like me are busy mentally beating themselves up over opportunities lost for their own team.

Wallabies rue another one that got away

I’m almost certain I heard an interview with Hooper mentioning that ‘he’s learned a few things about decision making on the field’. So I was perplexed when he turned down several shots at goal. Then, with one of their forwards off the field, he opted to kick for goal instead of going for the line out. Mind you it may well have been as simple as better angle for the 3 points.

Who will be the Wallabies' captain in 2021?

If that’s considered “frosty” then someone needs lessons from my Missus.

Michael Hooper's frosty response to questions over Wallabies captaincy

If I’m honest, my greatest concern is that we will get done like a dinner by a ‘disrupted & fatigued’ Argentine team with nothing to lose & everything to gain. I’d like to say that I expect a win. But that didn’t work out to well for me last time, so I’m going back to being humble and just making smarter decisions. 😢

Wallabies great calls for more adventure against Argentina

As a Wallaby ‘sad case’ fan, I think I may be in need of better therapy than this forum offers.
You see, after all these years, I am still unable to come up with a satisfactory answer when my good lady looks-up from reading while I’m abusing the TV screen, to calmly ask ‘why do you keep on doing it to yourself’? 😢
