Who cares how rugby league is doing in Melbourne? Since when is Melbourne RL heartland?

NRL vows to battle on in west and cash in on ratings

Absolutely agree, it has to be someone else entirely. There are so many players that do the little things that go unnoticed but in context of the game have a much larger effect then the superstar playmaker or try scorer who get the Dally M points…

Dally M fallout not all positive

Sydney loves lots of sports, RL, RU, Football (Soccer), AFL, Motorsports, Horse Racing, Swimming, Surfing… There is a place for all here in Sydney.

NRL vows to battle on in west and cash in on ratings

Its great to talk about, the westies love a battle… Gus & Gallop are just firing the supporter group up, its an old school coaches rant!
At the end of the day afl people are not Sydney people we just need to know who the enemy is & now we do.

NRL vows to battle on in west and cash in on ratings

The reason its rubbish is because the awards are owned by News Limited, why do you think the SMH didn’t run any coverage on it in the lead up to the event? The original award is the Rothmans Medal & had a much more prestigious event to go with it, hopefully as part of the new commission they will look at reviewing the awards night.

Dally M fallout not all positive

Nope, to paraphrase David Gallop “if you go into the sheds after a game you wonder how these players can back up the next week. It’s no doubt this is the toughest game, we don’t need fights to prove that’.

How many NRL fans secretly love the biff?

Intentcity is a NRL forum troll… Rantings of a madman.

Relocation, not just expansion, the real dilemma

What AFL players could take on rugby league?

Isnt this guy the afl equivilant of Wayne Bennett? Must be worth listening to…

Blowout margins a worry for AFL: Mick Malthouse

I actually like the Mudcrabers! It’s a different name but makes sense to me.
I like team names that are a bit different to the norm but new franchises don’t usually go out on a limb… Some of good ones are:
• The Memphis Grizzlies
• Washington Redskins
• Toronto Blue Jays
• San Jose Earthquakes
• New York Knicks
• Portland Trail Blazers
• New England Patriots
• Green Bay Packers
• Tampa Bay Buccaneers (great use of a pirate ship at the stadium)
• Boston Bruins
• Toronto Maple Leafs
• Detroit Red Wings
As long as they steer clear of the Roar/Heart/Glory – Sorry A League…

NRL bid team to fly as the Bombers

How about the Brisbane Giant-Suns? 🙂

NRL bid team to fly as the Bombers

Thats exactly right Brad. I know that the losses have stirred something in us NSW natives that hasn’t been present previously, the last games build up was a testament to that.

For one I’m sick of hearing qldrs talking about how good they are… makes me want to beat them next year & the one after & the one after etc…

State of Origin needs a blood transfusion

That sounds fair too, I like that Idea.

I’m not a big advocate of poker machines but we cant chuck the baby out with the bath water. Clubs do provide contributions to their local communities, fact. There would be just as many problem gamblers in the casino and pubs, so focus on them first as they don’t add anything to the community.

League, the clubs and the pokies

I think what they need to look at is reining in the pokies in the pubs & bars in Sydney instead of focusing on sports clubs/rsl’s. As they are privately owned and therefore don’t contribute anything back into their local communities plus they are killing live entertainment.

League, the clubs and the pokies

I understand that this is an opinion based website but this just sounds childish!

Rugby league on South African television

For now… but look how quickly media content delivery has changed in the past 5 years. You would imagine that by the time that the next TV deals come around online delivery would be a viable option.

If FOX don’t keep people on side as soon as another option becomes available people will jump ship, just think of Napster/torrent downloading for music which has left all the major music labels struggling for revenue.

Good will for companies will only go so far, if they undervalue another NRL contract there will be backlash!

Seven's AFL exclusivity a boon for the NRL and co

It’s interesting is all Redb. The afl have done a wonderful job of engaging fans in all formats, I would say that the membership drive that was started in the early 80’s has really fed in to other avenues such as the TV rights.

Something the NRL is now focusing on is the memberships; hopefully over the coming years we can get to levels closer to where the afl is (stadium consolidation will be key here).

AU is quite different to other markets globally for sporting TV content as we have two dominant football codes and a lack of channels to bid on it, as opposed to only one core ‘football’ code(EPL, NFL etc) and plenty of bidding channels to distribute it.

If AU wasn’t such a sports mad country we probably wouldn’t be able to support two codes so significantly through TV rights.

Seven's AFL exclusivity a boon for the NRL and co

Maybe not fear Cman because the AFL fans are sitting at the top of the sporting landscape in AU. Although they like to sit up there and deride the potential growth which they themselves have seen in their code.
One side of me thinks that we should listen and learn as they are at the top in terms of crowds & TV revenue . The other side says that they don’t really want to see anyone else succeed and their ‘advice’ is designed to mislead…

Redb, thoughts? 🙂

Seven's AFL exclusivity a boon for the NRL and co

Redb says “I beleive (Sic) the Daily Telegraph has even commented it has a conflict of interest at times when reporting NRL scandals.”

If there is a conflict of interest it’s because there is an appetite for trashy NRL media stories. Even if that was the case they have done a real job on the NRL in recent years so much so that only today News Ltd has had to apologise to an NRL player for defaming him.

Bring back investigative journalists I say!! I’m personally sick of the trashy sensationalistic reporting that fills pages and pages of media news.

Is Ricky Nixon innocent, naive, or foolish?

How much of an NRL fan are you? Are you actually a member of your “beloved roosters”?

Gower's presence won't jumpstart the Bunnies

Well said Gruff. No changes needed, except that NSW need to win one! 🙂

Launch Origin 2.0, the War in the Pacific

Jon I see no correlation between the two stories, In fact that’s the most incoherent off topic dribble I’ve seen in a long time. How you could possibly try and relate the army cadets unforgiving acts to NRL behaviour is unimaginable, you clearly have no idea about the NRL or the depth of player education relating to female treatment that is part of every NRL players career.

What now for Todd Carney?

Well said sheek, who doesn’t love a good banjo duel from time to time?
I’m a leaguie and love that there is two different codes to watch, there a positives and negatives to both, but both deserve their place in Australia’s sporting landscape.
I love Australia and want to watch as much sport as possible… Who says anyone needs to merge? It’s like saying netball and AFL should merge, there is a case for it because they look the same but both are great to watch on their own… 🙂

Five roadblocks to merging rugby codes

Redb writing a balanced comment… one that I agree with… Wow theres something I thought id never see!
