Interesting you say that fleagle.
I spent quite a few years teaching in Katherine WA.
All the indigenous people I am still in touch with up there think that Goodes, is a wonderful man.

Goodes' celebration reminds us of racial divide

Love reading your stuff on the Eagles Jax.
Big Eagles fan here in Victoria. I find the media opinions about the interstate teams rather lacking in any real intelligence. Over here anyway.
So thank you!

Mediocre North Melbourne stagnating again

Just took a holiday for a few weeks?
Was only having a laugh Macca!

Mediocre North Melbourne stagnating again

I seem to remember you pegging Carlton for finals and a win against the Eagles in Perth, after that, you just disappeared..
I’ve seen Don get more right than wrong.

Great win.
What a mark by Nic!!

Jrod – If you read my comment properly I stated the booing is not the issue for me, players get booed perhaps not with the gusto that Goodes recieves week in week out but he is not the only one and I would suggest that the majority of people don’t do it for any racist reason.
What really grinds my gears like I stated above are the vast majority of comments that either make uneducated assumptions, take what is reported as gospel or make woefully ignorant comments about racism.

When has he said that the booing was racist? Specifically?
The media were the ones to insinuate that the booing was racist.

If my memory serves me correctly he said that it upset his family not him.

The idiot's guide to booing Adam Goodes

I think the issue that people are having is that not once did Goodes during the interview that brought this all into the did Goodes ‘sook and whinge’.
The media still ran with the ‘Goodes thinks the boos are racial’.
The issue that has been for me are the comments, on here and other threads of the people that are defending their right to boo. Completely justified to defend themselves yes but in doing so I believe (and really you only have to look at all the comments above) they have shown themselves to perhaps not being racist but definitely being racially ignorant.
The boos themselves (not that I agree with them) are to me a completely different issue.

The idiot's guide to booing Adam Goodes

Goodes’s statement after the game was that it was for the under 16 team that he has been involved with. Why shouldn’t we take his word for it?
That aside the fact that a Carlton supporter had to be removed from the game after this week speaks volumes doesn’t it.

The idiot's guide to booing Adam Goodes

Eagles supporter and I completely agree with everything that’s said.

The idiot's guide to booing Adam Goodes

Would like to refer you to ‘excuse no.1’ for that one.

The idiot's guide to booing Adam Goodes

He didn’t bring it up he was asked about it by the media.
But by all means continue making uneducated comments.

The idiot's guide to booing Adam Goodes

This is brilliant

I don’t for a second believe that the majority of that crowd were racially motivated with their booing.
You know what does concern me. What makes me cringe.
Reading the comments on here and other forums.
The crowd may not have been racially motivated but a lot of the comments have definitely shown the mentality of a lot of people.

Does the Adam Goodes drama expose a racist underbelly in Australia?

That is pathetic.
Disliking someone for an award he had no say in whether he received it or not.
Would you have preferred he had turned it down?
But if he had done that he would be getting slammed because “was too high and mighty” to accept it.

Does the Adam Goodes drama expose a racist underbelly in Australia?

Great response Stewart.
Sadly I think that is the problem with this whole issue people read half a statement or story make up their minds and trash the person without actually finding out what was said or happened.
It is ignorance that seems to be the root of the majority of the views on this issue.

Does the Adam Goodes drama expose a racist underbelly in Australia?

Oh of course they beat another team that is below them bring out the “FTB” tag again.
Maybe St Kilda got a run on in the only quarter they beat the Eagles in, which mind you they didn’t even control the entire quarter. Or maybe WC took the foot off the gas thinking that it was going to be an easy day on the park after getting out to a 40 point lead at the first break?
But no they must be FTB and can’t handle the heat because other reasonings are illogical.
You know I even heard that when they are winning they get told to keep pushing to increase percentage, ridiculous I know, since when does percentage count for anything? They really should just make it a close game and take their foot off the pedal because that is the proof of a great team, just getting over the line against the cellar dwellers isn’t it?

“If you measure his worth by using football statistics he is no good”
Interesting you say that considering looking at this year alone and comparing it to Sandilands who most would consider the best ruckman in the game. Nic and Sandi both have very similar numbers with their possessions, Sandilands has a higher hitouts per game although not by much. Nic although had higher stats with tackles, inside 50’s and 1%’s.
The thing everyone seems to get stuck on with Nic is the Marks statistic, yes Sandilands wins that one comfortably. I agree someone with his ability and athleticism he should be taking alot more but when you look at the overall player that is Nic he is far from “no good.”
I think people get stuck on what a ruckman should be able to do and not what they actually do, if he is tall and big but doesn’t take marks he isn’t a good player. I would argue that there wouldn’t be many if any ruckmen that can put pressure on the ball carrier the way that Nic can and so I guess it comes down to what is important to that team and their style of play.

What to make of the West Coast Eagles?

Ryan, On the Eagles.
I am a massive Eagles supporter but I tend to agree with your sentiments.
West Coast has surprised even me this year, I thought they were definitely more capable than most people give them credit for and I think that is starting to be shown.
Like I said even I have been surprised, the losses to McKenzie, Brown and Darling alone made me think that we would be having another rough year. They have performed I think exceptionally well in the circumstances. However, with an easier run than some I don’t think it is beyond the Eagles to be pushing into that top 8, but I agree with your sentiments in that I think it would be better for them to not.
Finish outside the 8 have another year of decent drafting and return next year with a full list, blood more young guys this year.
Finals is wonderful and that finals experience is great, but we have a young team, one more year won’t see many if any retirements, even if finals came around I cannot see the Eagles going to deep into September, especially with Brown and McKenzie missing.

Great response Jax.
Comments like Gene’s are half the problem.
“It’s on a football field, he should have expected it.”
I am all for sledging but if a member of my team said anything along those lines I would want the book thrown at him.

Cats show their true colours by rallying around Mitch Clark

I had this conversation the other night with a friend.
His sentiments were “you have to deal with taunts if you are going to play football, he would have to expect that, he needs to toughen up.”
I was disgusted by his comments but the sad thing is that it is far too common. His views are echoed by far too many.
I have suffered depression for most of my life and I think that this quote is the perfect way to describe the battle that goes on everyday.

“The so-called ‘psychotically depressed’ person who tries to kill herself doesn’t do so out of quote ‘hopelessness’ or any abstract conviction that life’s assets and debits do not square. And surely not because death seems suddenly appealing. The person in whom Its invisible agony reaches a certain unendurable level will kill herself the same way a trapped person will eventually jump from the window of a burning high-rise. Make no mistake about people who leap from burning windows. Their terror of falling from a great height is still just as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window just checking out the view; i.e. the fear of falling remains a constant. The variable here is the other terror, the fire’s flames: when the flames get close enough, falling to death becomes the slightly less terrible of two terrors. It’s not desiring the fall; it’s terror of the flames. And yet nobody down on the sidewalk, looking up and yelling ‘Don’t!’ and ‘Hang on!’, can understand the jump. Not really. You’d have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling.”

Depression isn’t always about suicide but this quote I think explains the daily grind that someone depression faces.

Cats show their true colours by rallying around Mitch Clark

I agree with the majority of this article.
I think that the people that have dragged this through the mud are the media with their constant beat ups, but then again it sells, so why not.
I personally would love an answer to the whole saga, not a guilty or not guilty built on the fact that there is almost no evidence. The fact that Essendon supporters constantly use this as a reason as to why their club is innocent frustrates me to no end.
As to the blame of ASADA and to a lesser extent now WADA taking their rime with the whole process, maybe just maybe if there had been any records kept like Dank has continually said then there wouldn’t have been any need for any of this because we would all know what had been injected into those players.
Surely that pisses the players off. I have documents to prove what was injected into you but you can’t have them.
As there will probably never be an absolute verdict to this whole case I am probably pissing in the wind.
A man can dream.

Bravo WADA, do not let AFL remain a laughing stock

Dalgety Carrington, what would make you happy?
People have stated for the last two years that the Eagles are FTB now that they have knocked off one of the big four clubs, they need to prove more before they are a genuine threat. I don’t think that they are there in terms of being able to perform that way four qtrs every week but I also don’t think that you can use the same measuring stick to measure this team from last year or even this year for next year, they are a building club!!

Key talking points from Round 6

‘if they do send him off for the operation 5 rounds into the year does that constitute tanking?’
Are you kidding? So any player that requires surgery will be made to wait until the end of the year because it must be tanking? What a load of dribble.

Eagles superstar Josh Kennedy may be sidelined for season

I always find it amusing reading the comments when it comes to West Coast.
Alot of people seem to have a lot of opinions when it comes to the Eagles.

The biggest trend for this article was people asking the question why can’t the Eagles beat those top 8 sides, Jax giving an answer, quite a good one I thought, never once stating that the Eagles would be more than a 8-14 side this year but then people saying that just isn’t good enough.
You asked the question, you got the answer, you can’t then decide that isn’t good enough because it wasn’t the answer that you wanted.

West Coast battling manfully despite injury woes

Quite liked this article.
Listening to Triple M tonight, the Pies and Blues game and when the Pies were putting in the boot the boys kept talking about how important the percentage is. In fact a quote from Garry Lyon was “they have them by the throat and are squeezing, sign of a good side.”
Isn’t that exactly what the Eagles do to sides that are below them?
It amazes me the FTB name calling, they loose to sides clearly better than them hence they make the eight and the Eagles don’t and then beat sides that are below them.
