Wow KB, what a memory you have! It took me a while to remember why I was calling hiim Princess, then all that incessant whining came flooding back to me.

I expect it to start again very soon, in fact it’s half an hour til kick off, so it should begin again in a couple of hours :D.

Oh no! They’ve just mentioned that Danny Allsopp is having a dummy spit, what is it with these Tards?

Another story about football crowds

😀

The one thing I am happy about is the depth we now have at right and left fullback, coming from using Emmo as a makeshift RB to having Ratboy and now Williams there is a very good situation.

Taking a look at the Socceroos' depth

I don’t have much time to present any factual arguments here, or debate who should or shouldn’t be included.

I only have time to say this: Celeski? Where in the hell did that one come from? That guy is absolutely pants and the further away from the NT set up he is, the more comfortable I will feel about SA2010.

Us blokes? Do you mean Sydney or Abbotsford?

Sydney played decently in patches and definitely a lot better than melbourne did. As for Abbotsford, well, we were poor but still managed to win 4-1, and looked a damn sight better than melbourne……..

A-League return pits the critics against the apologists

Pipps,

I don’t think it was sad the way SFC scored the winning goal, in fact the pub I was in was exultant as Brosquey was brought down and Aloisi knocked it in.

I also have to disagree with the weekend being a shocker. 3 points for Sydney, 3 points for my team on Saturday arvo to keep us in the hunt for a top 2 spot and a melbourne loss….. What could be better? 😀

“possession was 64:36 – so how could we have played long balls all night??”

Did you even watch the game? 4 or 5 passes between the defence and DMs and then a diagonal or straight ping up the field, even my wife commented on this.

A disappointing start to the A-League season

I don’t understand this part:

“should have been Adelaide or Sydney, but probably Adelaide given the FFA would want to start strongly in Sydney this year.”

Are you talking about Sydney getting a good start with crowds or points? Either way it makes no sense as we are away this weekend in NQ, and had we been at etitard last night it would have been an absolute embarrassment for ‘victory’.

A disappointing start to the A-League season

With Musc*&t in you had nothing at the back, so you’ve not really lost anything……

I was kind of hoping for 0-0 last night, but I’ll take a victory loss (?) anytime. A poor season is on the cards and I couldn’t be happier.

A disappointing start to the A-League season

And we have Barca, no, Boro, no, Celtic, no….. Shanghai Shenhua!!

Big concerns already for the North Queensland Fury

Less than 6 weeks!!

Big concerns already for the North Queensland Fury

Corica, McFlynn, Colosimo, Bolton/Necevski and to a lesser extent Brosque……. We’ll do OK.

At least the youngsters have the right attitude, that’s all we can ask of them at the moment, get your head right and let your youthful exuberance shine.

Pipps,

No. The guy was a cancer that has thankfully been cut out. Bad attitude & no leadership skills. The way he failed to step up as a leader after Poppa’s retirement says it all, he was one of the senior guys in the team, and THE senior defender, he did nothing to help Busch and will do nothing for Cornflakes’ development this season.

Big concerns already for the North Queensland Fury

Jets will definitely miss the finals and will battle it out with NQ for the spoon. I think Adelaide will struggle too, for one key reason. They lost Ognenovski and replaced him with Fyfe…….Fyfe.

PIpps,

Stirring the pot again I see. Sydney will be challenging for both titles this year, mark my words. It really doesn’t matter if Aloisi flops again, I don’t really see him getting many starts. Brosque will start & star all season, alongside Chris Payne who will be the revelation of the season, all on the back of a very talented midfield.

I’d be worrying about my own backyard if I were you. The league has caught up and the Tards have made no significant improvement. I see your guys battling it out with Gold Coast and WP for mid table respectability. Still you can thank your lucky stars you’re not a CCM or NUJ man, I predict a world of hurt for both of those teams, particularly Newcastle under then inept tutelage of Branko.

A point I made earlier seems to have been missed, Jurman and Colosimo will not be the starting centre-half pairing. Sydney’s final signing will be a Centre Half of The Bench’s choosing, some names being thrown around are Chris Coyne and Adrian Madaschi. Coyne will more than likely go to Perth, but I still remain hopeful we can get him.

From all reports Jurman is looking good and has improved his game markedly, if he starts it is likely that Colosimo will move to the DM role and the heart & soul of Sydney, Terry McFlynn will become more of an attacking player (an area he has certainly improved on recently), moving Musialik out of the starting team, probably a good thing considering his recent form & attitude.

I repeat, What is a Carlton?

Further to that, what in the hell is a blue-bagger?

Pipps,

I must refute a few of your comparisons between SFC and ‘Carlton’ (Is it meant to be Carlton beer? please explain it to me, ‘cos I’m dying to know.)

Both slump into an ignomonious period of humiliating results after a period of success.

We’ve actually been fairly consistent, I would argue that it is the Tards that can’t string together 2 successful seasons

Both can’t hold onto a coach for more than a season.

Can’t argue with that

Both appeal to a narrow band of inner city dweller who has a liking for Kylie Minogue.

I may be an Inner City Dweller but I resent being lumped in with my Kylie Minogue loving neighbours. Can’t stand her, or her ilk.

Sydney FC's high tempo template from Lavicka

Normally at this stage of the pre-season I would be talking up Sydney’s chances, no matter how slim they are. This year, however, I have been sitting back quietly, watching the improvement in attitude and aptitude and silently salivating over the season to come.

Things are looking pretty good so far, the young guys re coming through well, Kisel looks the goods, McFlynn, Brosque & Colosimo seems to have settled in to The Bench’s system quite well and we are yet to add a solid Centre-Half as our final signing. The only other team I see doing some actual improving is Perth. GCU look OK, but I’m yet to see them play. If Saturday night is anything to go by NQF will fail spectacularly and Fowler will probably walk away by week 10, provided he isn’t still or again injured.

It’s to be expected that the Tards will have another horrible season, predictable predictable Tards.

Woops, missed that last little line there. Diving is disgusting and should be stamped out, follow the game a little more closely and you will see that diving is not that prevalent. DId you watch the Aus/Japan WCQ tonight? So many times there was the opportunity to go to ground and win fouls/penalties and neither team took them.

Why do most Socceroos come from one State?

Glen,

Yes and no. Grosso used the situation to his advantage, Lucas Neill should not have gone to ground, he was impeding Grosso and the Italian simply made the best of it. I agree with you that there was no need to act as though he was hurt but unfortunately you sometimes need to ‘prove’ to the ref that you have been fouled.

As for the other point, it did not cost us ‘a shot at the title’, not scoring against 10 men in the previous half hour definitely cost us a shot at Ukraine.

Why do most Socceroos come from one State?

I’ve been following this argument with a somewhat detached amusement, not really wanting to jump in.

However, I will not sit idly by and have one of my favourite enjoyments so vehemently slandered.

Robbos, Kangaroo meat is vastly superior to both beef and pork, in flavour, fat content and versatility. I know you were using a metaphor but I just couldn’t let this sort of thing go unchecked.

A-League excites despite media indifference

Have to agree with Brian, Gibbs will struggle to contain Ronaldo.

Hopefully Cesc can continue his current form and Nasri breaks out of his mini-slump to get us through.

A Barca-Arsenal rematch is my dream, with Arsenal taking out the prize and showing Henry that he should have stayed. The flipside is a loss to Barca may tempt Cesc away.

United's progression not a foregone conclusion

Palmer said: “My money is on Hiddink, naturally. But whose wouldn’t be? ”

Well, me for one. There are only a few managers that rival Hiddink’s position in the stratosphere and Wenger is certainly one of them.

Although Arsenal are suffering deficiencies at the back I still think they’ll be able to overcome Chelsea’s lazy front line. Adebayor or van Persie will show John Terry up for the pretender that he is.

Arsenal 3 – Chelsea 1.

Van Persie set to quake in his boots

Typcal Eurosnob crap, the first half wasn’t that inspiring but hey certainly settled down in the last 10 minutes of the first half and started to dominate. I think you may have the possession stats back to front.

Alan Nicolea,

While I agree that South America is the toughest qualifying group, the title of easiest or weakest group must surely go to Concacaf, 3.5 spots for a confederation that feature 1, maybe 1 and a half ‘world class’ teams. I’m pretty sure my Abbotsford AA2s could qualify through Concacaf………

Soccerwhos?

I am well aware of the etymology of the word ‘soccer’, I don’t need a history lesson from you, thanks all the same.

I have said previously that I don’t care what other people call it, as long as they are talking about it.

That is unavoidable – – live in Canada, USA or Australia and there is a local form of football call it such.

You’re not the boss of me :p

Les Murray : “World Soccer”, a fine publication gone 40 years now and published from England

I’ve never read it, or placed that much importance in it, similar to my stance on Les Murray, irrelevant.

Is the AFL scared of the rise of football?

md,

It’s gotta be Melbourne Hotspur, just to bring together 2 of the most hated elements of my football existence.

Does Melbourne need a second A-League team?
