It’s not too late. Instead of the IPRC, invest in the NRC where WA already have a great team.
Try to create the equivalent of a rugby A-League to take on Super Rugby here in Oz. Most people are over the Super Rugby Schmozzle anyway. Playing against teams they don’t care about at who knows what time on pay TV they can’t often can’t afford (or it’s just not value for money).
Rugby audiences are dying for the right product. Get the NRC on free to air and promote it properly. Maybe create new pathways for the remaining forgotten rugby states and get more Pacific Island teams as they also have been let down badly by World Rugby.
The quality is there, and we are showing up the ‘lack of depth’ argument as bullsh*t more each year this competition is run.
And if you really still want direct pathways for our awesome Westralian brethren into the Wallabies, then maybe fund some Twiggy scholarship spots in each Super side to directly help WA players to reach the top (for the few remaining years that Super Rugby still exists).
Anyway – love this NRC Comp, imagine if it had some real resources behind it…
