Val Holmes is a centre of similar size / stature to Brimson.
The difference is Brimson often skips around before engaging the defence, whereas Val has learned his role is to charge headlong into them at full speed.
Brimson just needs to adjust his tactics to be effective

Aussie Ebden claims Australian Open doubles crown as 43yo partner sets remarkable grand slam record

Good article, but as a Broncos fan, I fear your Manly pick is flawed, as you’re overlooking the Siebold factor!

I know the jury is still a little bit out on him as a coach, but he really stuffed up at the Broncs! It won’t surprise me to see Manly spiral this year

The great NRL 2024 top 8 swap... Who's moving into the finals - and who's out?

Hey Paul,
Your opening sentence doesn’t work…

When you start by saying ‘It’s either…’, you need to present an ‘or’ statement after.

Either a champion team, or…?

Curious as to what the intended 2nd half of the sentence was

Head-strong ton and Hazlewood’s sizzling spell send Windies sprawling but Aussies struggling for form despite winning streak

I think this will have the opposite effect to the NRL’s statement.
It will make the NRL more predictable.
With a lesser punishment for getting it wrong, teams will go the short kick off 95% of the time.
So much for unpredictability….

NRL holds tight on rules - but adds one tweak to promote 'unpredictability of the game'

I really don’t get this concern about the SR of the top 4.
They have one job – score runs. Big runs.
I’d much rather my top 4 scores 200+ runs at a SR of 45 than >150 runs at a SR of 70+

Smith's time is up: Selectors miss golden chance to look to the future with short-sighted leadership decision

Fair call.
I’ll stand corrected. That is a good career record.

The invisible pacemen: Wild Thing beware - a generation of fast bowlers denied Test caps by record-breaking trio

Don, that’s interesting about BBL speeds.
But if Morris was the quickest bowler in the country, wouldn’t his ball speed on avg be quicker than the other bowlers in the matches?

I saw Meredith bowl a 146kmh ball a couple of games back and it looked particularly quick. The batsman was very late on it.

I haven’t watched a lot of Morris – which is why I asked the question – but haven’t see his speeds stand out when I have seen him.

The invisible pacemen: Wild Thing beware - a generation of fast bowlers denied Test caps by record-breaking trio

Take a look at Starc’s record…it is elite. That’s the reason they didn’t / don’t drop him – he’s got the bowlers version of runs on the board.
345 wickets @ 27.5 and a SR under 50.
He’ll go down as an all-time great.

I’ll miss it…

The invisible pacemen: Wild Thing beware - a generation of fast bowlers denied Test caps by record-breaking trio

Most of those “nearly” quicks are not international quality bowlers, so not much missed there. Hastings was very blessed to get a baggy green…
I think the only bowlers who have been hard done by in that list are Chadd Sayers, Jye Richardson and Michael Neser, who were (are?) all good enough to have played >20 tests. And maybe Jackson Bird could have played a few more.

Cutting had one good year – 2009/10, where he topped the Shield wickets list with 46 @ 23.91. Outside of that, for the rest of his FC career, he only managed another 124 wickets @ 30.1…

Fekete is another who had one good year and probably never deserved selection.

Abbott’s not good enough, nor is Tremain. And I’m so glad that NCN never got a run. I never understood him getting anywhere near the Aussie test team. He’s taken a grand total of 124 FC wickets in his entire career, at 28.7. Hardly screams ‘Pick me!’

The invisible pacemen: Wild Thing beware - a generation of fast bowlers denied Test caps by record-breaking trio

But can he??
From what I’ve seen, Morris bowls in the Hazelwood speed range…

The invisible pacemen: Wild Thing beware - a generation of fast bowlers denied Test caps by record-breaking trio

Serious question:
Why is Morris called the ‘Wild Thing’?
Since he rose to prominence, I’ve watched his bowling speeds eagerly, and… he’s not that quick.

In his last BBL game, at the GABBA no less, where his maximum of 4 overs means he can really let rip, his avg on pace delivery was mid 130’s.
Some were McGrath like low 130’s.
I only saw a singular delivery get into the (very low) 140’s.

His Shield record of late is pretty decent, so I’m not suggesting he’s not good enough for selection. I’m genuinely perplexed at his nickname. Starc & Cummins both bowl quicker than he does…

I reckon that’s a good idea, and gives the squad greater flexibility.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: North Queensland Cowboys - Pressure on Payten to prove 2022 success wasn't a fluke

Big Gordon, I say underwhelming because their overall records do not scream “Pick me!”
All 3 have a career FC avg under 40.

When you look at guys like David Hussey who averaged 55 and couldn’t get a run, or Michael Bevan whi couldn’t get back into the team despite averaging 57 in FC, it shows the current options are a little underwhelming. IMO, anyway.

'I’ll have a beer with you': Warner invites haters to change their minds as he pulls pin on ODI career

ODI’s are a different beast to Test matches.
Not long ago we selected a great ODI opener to open in tests, when all his FC success had come at #5…and it didn’t end well.
His failure was expected and unsurprising.
Aaron Finch is a cautionary tale for giving ODI’s and test matches equivalence.
