He is a bit of a nutter but I thought this was awesome. Sometimes you’ve gotta lead by example.

The Death of Sportsmanship

If I had to predict I’d say the crowd figures will feature a +ve spike in the next season of A-League coming off the back of the Sth African WC.
Though I’m more concerned what happens on the pitch I’m not naive enough to know that low attendance = club death. The current season is harder to predict. You would think the inclusion of 2 new teams would create some interest to intice some1 to commute to the stadium but we have no basis of comparison, this is the 1st time in the HAL. We could, I guess, compare this with other codes. But I don’t like doing that because it requires research which in the end is all assumption and assumptions make bridges collapse.
Best then to focus on the things that we can control which is quality signings, football, pitch conditions, coverage, marketing etc. “If you build it, they will come”.

Let's have more action, less talk about crowds

Im quit sick of Roar posting these articles deliberately provoking an argument of AFL/Union/League v Football. This is becoming quite tiresome and typically ends up degenerating into a pissing contest. Yawn, please come up with something more constructive NUFCMVFC. Or are you too transparent and boring?

A-League players should be paid the same as NRL, AFL

Introduce extranuos material? Your the one placing facts on this thread, I merely asked a question.

Soccer or Football? Here we go again

Why dont you compare figures for global attendance for football compared to the global attendance for AFL. Please set the record straight.

Soccer or Football? Here we go again

I don’t know how many times I have to tell you this. This is not America, this is Au-stra-lia. When a player kicks outside the box its 25 metres (please note my spelling) out not 80 feet. We use the metric system do we not? It is football, surely it has earned the repsect to be callled that?Doesnt it deserve to be called football in its own right, I dont see why it cannot be called football along with the other codes as well. They all share different names anyway, Aussie rules, League, Union and Soccer. But first and foremost it is Soccer…I mean Football….ah shit!

Soccer or Football? Here we go again

Personally I find this type of nonsense damaging to the game. It puts the game into disrepute and is down-right unprofessional. The sport would be better off to be seen as professional. Football wont achieve this with attention seeking headlines on a par with a Mundine boxing match.
This is part of the learning curve for football in our country. Alot being done is new in our region in regards to football and we are unable to see the repurcusions until it is too late. I don’t believe that football has been able to grab so much focus from the media riding on the success of our national team. Some choose to use this power incorrectly whilst others are unable to stand all the attention, eg Kosmina and GVE, and lash out.
Judging by the comments of Moron Blieberg and Palmer I believe they are unable to see beyond their own noses. However FFA saw it fit to grant them a licence so now they made there bed, they can lie in it too. Coincidentaly I can potentially see the same thing happening with a prospective new licence being granted to a Western Sydney bidder. The financial backer is as shifty as they come. Perhaps FFA need to look beyond financial security into there background and motivations?

A duty of care to the A-League

Wow 24 teams. There are currently a squad of 22 men and 14 youth. Thats a total of 36 per team. Thats a total of 864 players! Where are all these players going to come from? Theres around 20 players per year from the AIS. State leagues, pfft. Lets not forget coaching staff, management, investors, grounds…phew.

Looking into the A-League's crystal ball

I believe we think too highly of ourselves, football fans I mean. The two codes have been locking horns for a much longer period of time and have healthy rivalries. Football seems relatively new on the scene and I hardly think it will threaten codes that have well established fan basis. You just have to watch AFL crowds to see the little old grannies sitting there that have followed there team since they were kids. An A-League team has hardly touched that kind of commitment…yet.
I do believe that Wellington Phoenix’ greatest challenge is to remain competitive. I would hate to see a licence wasted when it could happily go to another club here in Australia lest it end up like the Knights debacle. No I dont believe that this season is a make or break, I think that happened along time ago for the HAL. The FFA have made few mistakes and setup an attractive and sustainable brand. Some challanges to date are poor club management, terrible signings, 1 club dropping out, ridiculous field conditions as well as a recession. Thats not bad.

It's a make or break season for the A-League

Maybe there hasnt been a good enough song for a new HAL tv spot? Kate Miller Heidke – The Last Day on Earth….um no!

Does the A-League season need more promoting?

1st time Ive been to that stadium. Its seen a few years thats for sure. Did any1 notice the Winfield Cup logo ontop of the Grandstand? Looks like ground staff had dropped 100L’s of Roundup on the edge of the field, very poor condition. If I had to guess I would say its a money issue.

Memo to A-League groundsmen; time to roll out the carpet
