No issues with playing the Windies except it should be a three test series not two.

COMMENT: What's the point in playing the Windies? Only the future of Test cricket itself

If they want “an attempt to contest” what about allowing the marker to be able to strike/rake the ball in the play the ball.

NRL holds tight on rules - but adds one tweak to promote 'unpredictability of the game'

To be fair the BBL is a tv competition with spectator tickets just being the icing on the cake. Having our test stars would increase viewers making the BBL a sponsors delight. With our test stars in their two gaames in the BBL Carey did well, Smith got one good scopre, Marnis OK. Green and Head never played BBL so hard to say the test players did a lot wxcxept for them being there.

Australian cricket calendar overhaul on the way - shaking up summer to strike right balance between Tests and BBL

Agree Nick, but at $750,000 a season, Easts would be better letting him go rather than paying that for playing in the seconds. He could go to another NRL club for the season or Japan for a season. This at least would free up some money for the club.

Joey v Dom v Toops: Why the Roosters should ditch Suaalii from their backline for Round 1

Being a cynical one, my view is that the whole point of Smith moving to openert was to get Grween into the side. If it wasn’t Smith the selectors would have moved Marnus, Head or Marsh to open. I would have looked at Renshaw to open with Khawaja but a new opener needs to be looked at for Khawaja going. I’ve liked Pucowski but he needs to get runs and not concussions.

Biggest problem is that during our summer tests, apart from the tests, there is no red ball cricket. CA has a lot to answer for with BBL. A great money spinner from the broadcasters and sponsors but it doesn’t help when test replacements are needed.

The final stand: How Steve Smith's shift to opener exposes the Australian cricket team's twilight era

I think the reason the intensity has sdropped in Shield cricket is that in days gone bye test players played Shield cricket inless they wered playing in a test. The intensity for a young batsmen to prove himself against our best bowlers and the bowlers to prove themselves against the top batsmen. Sadly can’t happen now due to the plerthora of ODI and T20 tours. For example, how many Shield games would the current test players play in a season. One or two. As the competition goes so does the intensity.

Doing it tough: Are modern cricketers really tasked with heavy workloads?

Your comment on training is spot on. It was only after the Packer years that players became professional. Prior to this they all had jobs, Lillee was a bank teller, Bob Cowper was a banker, Doug Walters a Rothman’s representative so yes the modern player did have the advantage of proessionalism over the previous players.

Doing it tough: Are modern cricketers really tasked with heavy workloads?

Your comment on World cups. Should be four yearly ODI, two years later T20, 2 years after ODI. Fet rid of of the Champions Trophy.

Maybe have a T20 window for the various countries rather than having them throughout the year. Could be a goer but…

Could following football's lead be key in saving Test cricket?

This probably the single biggest cause of slow over rates, drinks breaks. One half way through the session, nothing more. Remember an old story when AB was captain and playing England. Hot day and the batsmen asked about having an extra drinks break. Politely told by Border no, what do you think this is a f…… tea party?
As well mid over talks by both batsmen and bowlers and captain, ban them. Captain can talk to ther bowler when he’s walking back to his mark. Batsmen can talk at end of over or dismissal.
ICC has to look at not just penalising the bowling side for slow over rates, batting sides have to be held to account too. Penalising TMC points, really who cares. Hit the offenders with fines, decent ones and suspensions. Two innings of slow over rates in a row, captain suspend and worst offending bowler. Harsh maybe but needed.

Players allowed to go at snail’s pace with over rates but fans’ complaints fall on deaf ears at ICC

And Renshaw?

Picking apart the selectors’ choices in the Bailey era: Masterstrokes tarnished by blunders as Australia face future upheaval

No. On form what has Green got except youth. Two FC games this season, yes he did get a 90 and a 40. Renshaw in his FC games has a century, a 30 and a couple of 20s. Renshaw also has youth on his side being in being only 27.

I am dreading come next summer that so many of our team are going to announce retirement and we have not blooded anyone.

Picking apart the selectors’ choices in the Bailey era: Masterstrokes tarnished by blunders as Australia face future upheaval

Bringing in Green is a rubbish decision. He’s played two FC games this season and di do well with scores of 46 and 96. But nothing else. No Shield or BBL (for what that is worth). Pucowski has played four FC with a top score in the 60s, Renshaw has played FC games this season with a century and a fifty plus. Harris and Bancroft both have better stats for this season than Green.

The whole point of Smith moving to open (or Marnus, Head or Marsh) is to get Green into the team. Green’s test batting average is only the 30s and his test bowling average is not much better. He may well have the potential but as the great Jack Gibson once said, potential wins you nothing. Put Green in then squad but he can carry the drinks.

Smith's shock opener switch all but locked in as 'perfect scenario' looms with Green back to middle order

I wouldn’t be moving an existing player from their regular position to open (or to include Green in the team). I like Pucowski but until he can put a few good scores together without getting concussion. To me, it should be between Bancroft and Renshaw, my leaning towards Renshaw.

Every Australian Test opener option, ranked: Why sending Smith up is a recipe for disaster

As I said in another post, the iuussue is that these players are all on CSA contracts so this extra money would have no benefit.

‘Is this a defining moment in the death of Test cricket’: Steve's right to be on Waughpath over pathetic Proteas squad

Disagree. NZ has done nothing wrong why should they pull out.

‘Is this a defining moment in the death of Test cricket’: Steve's right to be on Waughpath over pathetic Proteas squad

Waugh’s comment T”he ICC has more than enough money to cough up for the “premium, equal match fee for all Test players” that Waugh is promoting.” that Waugh is promoting.” In this casde it is not the money per se but that the players ore on contract to CSA.

The problem is that their local T20 comp will bring in the money where the tests won’t. Rather tha having the ICC cough up extra monies for match fees why not have the ICC set up a T20 window where all local T20 comps are played at the same tiume freeing up time for test series. Will it happen, no. No way would the BCCI allow competitions to be held at the same time as IPL, which is sad.

‘Is this a defining moment in the death of Test cricket’: Steve's right to be on Waughpath over pathetic Proteas squad

It appears the ywant to create and oopener who is a batting allrounder a la Shane Watson. The difference is that Watson was an opener. As far as I am aware Green has not openned in first class gam,,es let alone the tests he has played.

Warner’s replacement should be Renshaw or Bancroft. Both have runs on the board as openners.

Giving Green light to opener experiment could work - but that doesn’t mean it’s the right option

Always been a fan but he got correctly dropped earlier because he wasn’t performing. Maybe the potential was there but as Jack Gibson once said, potential wins you nothing. He came back with good performances to see him selected to play in the Ashes and has continued that good form.

COMMENT: Can we please stop rewriting history about Mitch Marsh just because everyone loves him now?

Enjoyed the game. It was a contest for much of it and the way Pakistan is improving, the third gamem should be a ripper. However, two areas whwere Pakistan must improve to really make it a game is theirm catching (some great catches in the second test togetjher with spilling some dollies) and keeping the extras down, 52 in the Aus first innings. 52 extras out od a total of 318 is poor.

Who'd have thunk it? Pakistan gave us our first proper fight at home in years and left us wanting more

I had read elsewhere that both Green and Marsh would prefer not to open, a specialist opener is what is required. A toss up between Bancroft and Renshaw with maybe Renshaw for the longer term.

Totally agree with Malinauskas here. First three day of the test are weekdays meaning people have to take time off from work. This will see low crowds. Looks like all for the tv dollar.

Why Warner could put franchise cricket above Aussie duty, Perth mayor's crowd solution, another nightmare drop stuns

Appeal knocked back now the onus is on the ICC to ensure thgere are no messages on bats, pads, boots, etc otherwise they will have a lot of exoplaining to do.

'Makes no sense': Khawaja slams ICC charge over first Test armband protest as Albanese goes into bat for opener

The Moose was a rugby second rower though he played prop in league. Union prop was not an easy one to tyake to league. O’Connor was a union centre so I( would have Cleary on the wing not him.

The league-union versatility: A 13-man team of the best Australian dual code representatives

I don’t think that is the issue. The cricket boards don’t care about test cricket. The money comes from various T20 cmpetitions is what they are after. Look at the test squad SA is sending to NZ. The top Saffas are staying home to play in their T20 comp.

Gap's never been wider between cricket’s Big Three haves and the have-nots ... and it’s only getting worse

Sadly, I agree. I hope he does well but realistically hje needs game time not training. Will they risk him in club footy?

As young stars switch places, are 'Marky' and 'Joey' a chance to be 'All-Australian' rugby dual internationals?

At the moment, Marky Mark is halfway there already being a Wallaby now to get a Roos jersey. Yes Sua’ali’i has played for Samoa in rugby league but with the likes of Jorgenson, Petaia, Wright, Kellaway, Koroibete he will have a job ahead of him.
