Live in NZ. Born in 1947. Born in Wellington and a Canes man through and through. Edmond Burke\\\'s quote,\\\"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing\\\". I am also a privileged breed at 69 yet I am still fully employed by a German multinational. My wasted years must have been worth it.

What is it about Australia and Pocock. A great competitor. A great fetcher, but quite a limited skill set. Would not be in an All Black squad for sure. Mind you playing him at No. 8 is a massive screw up by Cheiker where he has less opportunity to exploit his well earned fetcher tag and have an impact on a game
To be in an All Black squad he would have to be ahead of Todd, Taufua, Ardie, etc. to make it.
Never ever in McCaw’s class as an all round footballer, no lineout and a very average ball carrier at International level. Cane too has so much more that Pooper. As for Ardie he could well turn out to be a top international No. 7 having the same skill set as the other two.
Incredible physical strength but time will tell I guess.

Wallabies keen to do it for Cheika

Well I guess we can agree somewhere in the middle re Byrne/Nonu Lostintokyo as I do rate the Byrne input and would never sell the guy short. Loved by all rugby types in NZ I assure you. Not bad for an Aussie in NZ thinking about it, but then again anybody in the AB inner circle is considered above average over here.
Re Smithy – As a tactical type Wayne Smith became a master analyst of back play during his time playing even more so after he retired. All the All Black backs would have received his personal tutelage at some point or other. An incredibly smart thinker.
One of the main roles of Smith in the AB coaching set up is to analyse the AB’s from an opposition point of view where his analysis looks at weaknesses in the AB game that an opposition can exploit. I mean in my day it was a case of gee look what they are doing and then be over run in the process.
Re Byrne and the aerial skills he brought from the AFL. His influence in that area was immense and it showed. However I did hear Hanson say once last year that full credit must go to Cory Jane for the aerial development of Dagg’s game, I would have thought Byrne did that but we clearly don’t know all the AB facts. I am told by some of Jane’s club mates in Wellington that he was a class aerial act even back when he was a Junior player so clearly local club coaches were looking at the AFL then.

Time for the Mick Byrne way to kick in with the Wallabies

Just an anal Kiwi chipping in here taylorman !
“While a team ‘exists’ as the ABs have since 1903” Make that 1905 !
The NZRFU was formed in 1887 and the first NZ Rugby team went offshore to UK in1888 they were called the New Zealand Native team. The first NZRFU national sanctioned tour was undertaken in 1893 to Aussie
But 1905 was when the All Black name was given to them and the game became part of the Kiwi psyche from that time.

They copied us! Should the Wallabies start playing like Kiwis?

Lostintokyo umm I think it was Wayne Smith who was the man in that lot not Byrne re Nonu.
I think this Byrne thing on this is getting out of hand.
Deification for Byrne is going too far.

Time for the Mick Byrne way to kick in with the Wallabies

I think it was Train Without a Station who wrote a comment earlier today that said, “would you agree the majority of all blacks have also received a private school education anyway “?
I have to challenge that assumption.
State Schools in NZ have provided 95% or more of All Blacks since the beginning. If you have some info I don’t know show it, but I know you can’t.
Biggest supplier of AB’s is Auckland Grammar which is a fully fledged state school contrary to it’s name.
Others like St. Pats Silverstream (Integrated State/Catholic), Wellington Boys, Christchurch Boys High are high on the list too.
In Auckland Kelston Boys rates highly, again a State school. Many other State schools rate well in All Blacks supply chain, I could go on.
The state rugby system in NZ is very sophisticated hence the production line works well.
NZ school 1st XV’s have their games on TV every week whenever they are played. Ie. Midweek or whatever

Would the Wallabies have won with Eddie Jones as coach?
