That’s interesting because the NRL have announced bigger participation numbers in QLD & NSW this year (all figures tackle version).

Central Sydney has benefitted from a rise: – Balmain Junior Rugby League – 2053 participants from 1605 in 2019; Carlingford Cougars fielding an open aged team for first time in 15 years;
– St George Junior Rugby League – 1675 participants from 1255 in 2019 which is their highest male participation in six years;
– Manly Junior Rugby League – 2461 participants from 2080 in 2019;
– North Sydney Junior Rugby league – 1670 participants from 1149 in 2019; source NSWRL
WA NRL have said the game is growing in participation numbers & RL is in the WA school system in greater numbers than union. Go check the WA Govt. Schools Sports site. There are more clubs that have joined the WA RL system than what were around when the Reds existed. Clubs have also got new facilities, Fremantle Roosters for example are recipients of a huge new govt facility.

Republican, perhaps you missed the recent Brazil v Pinos game at Coogee, a good reflection of the diverse immigrants attracted to RL in Oz. Follow the likes of the Indian Jungle Cats, another heritage inspired development of the game not to mention numerous heritage internationals between Sth American countries in Sydney etc (which by the way is linking with development back in their home countries). RL is attracting its fair share of non Polynesian/Maori immigrants. Perhaps not in the numbers of soccer but numbers all the same.

I would put FTA ratings being down more on Ch 9’s coverage of the game which is hell bent on not changing & drives people away. The drop in FTA seems to have been taken up by the similar increase in ratings for fox league & more importantly streaming. People are paying not to have Nine coverage it seems.
Added, for the first time in ages there is more positivity of reporting by newsltd media after nearly 2 decades of relentless negativity. We shall wait on the effects!

Hey Robert current RL clubs in that region are Benalla Wolves, Wangarratta Knights, Wondonga Storm & Wodonga Wombats who play in the Murray Cup. The Sunraysia League has Chaffey Titans, Mildura Tigers, Mildura Warriors & Robinson Storm
