Bad decision by Aus. Even if not our best starting 7 I would imagine Fiji, Wales etc would hate to see him warming up with 25-30 to go and coming on to finish the game out for Oz. We lose Mcreight to a head knock 48 hours before the game we can call Hooper in but he cant plsy that game due to the rules… so it woild be McCalmab from 2011 again and Tom Hooper having to move to 7.

Why did we sack DR again if EJ is only going to now use WC to prep for Lions and 2027? May as well let DR finished his contract, EJ gets a fresh start. If we are blooding now why did Lonergan, donaldson kot get a game in RC or Vunivalu more than one game. Why not play Gleeeson. Why? Cause EJ is flying by the seat of his pants and making it up as he goes.

dpnt forget also Hooper said he would be good for AB game at the Arg game. Then he misses both AB games. And now not fit for WC? Doesn’t add up. Whilst calves can be tricky this suggests it got worse or was further injured.

Heaps of potential but just like every other tighthead will never be a world beater due to lack of workd class scrum coaching in Aus and lack of focus on scrummaging in Aus due to Super rugby and how we play the game here. Best thing we could do for blokes like him and Schoupp, Marley Pearce and Siosofa Amosi etc. is send them to clubs in the UK like Leicester and French clubs and bring them back in two years.

Good question. What a lot of the best kick counter attackers/returners do is run the ball back between two of their own players who are retreating and creating a hole between the chasing defenders. Its illegal, its a league tactic… but it works. Teams gets away with it. Its the old run at the ref trick and he will move either left or right and create a hole. Wallabies need to get smarter at it, push the opp players out of the way, or work harder to get in front of them… but also draw attention to it with the referee. We are also terrible at doing it ourselves because we aren’t smart enough or fit enough to retreat and work hard to create a hole in the defence line for our winger/fullback to run through. Doesnt help also when the chaser like Marika creates a hole by not being connected to players inside and outside him.

Good point but remember tackling is a physical act defending is not the same thing… its playing as part of a system. Some of the players are strong tacklers other are not. Some players can be average tacklers but great defenders because they work with the man inside and out, position themselves well, read the play, shut things down etc. Tackling is a skill that can be improved with training and technique. Our structure in defence as a team will get better as EJ has said he’s put no time into that yet.

Marika rushed out of the line to let Jordan through. Any time Marika is defending in a line as opposed to on the end if the line he is a defensive liability. Good tackler but terrible defender. Two different things. EJ said they have sone no work on defence yet so hopefully they can fix this issue with Marika being a lone wolf and lacking the ability to work with the man inside and outside him and also address his issue of leaving his wing unattended.

Great article and I think you are bang on except I think Gleeson, Leota and Samu are competing for two spots and Michael Hooper goes. I also think you have to pick a 69 test cap prop in Scott Sio so he goes before Schoupp. I also expect Pone will start each with Tupou off the bench.

Hope with Marley pearce, Siosifa Amosi, Schoupp, Nnogorr, Massimo De Luttis we get some decent front towers coming through. Look at a bloke like Dane Zander. Has all thr ability and i reckon if he was playing in Nz or Europe he would be twice the player. But here, lack of coaching and nous sees him on the scrap heap and we will never know how good he could be. We flushed Lomax and now hes an All Black.
