Colin represents everything we hope for and admire in modern sport - by never questioning his loyalty to the Cronulla Sharks NRL club.

The difference is probably that the channel 9 team would have created a graphic, checked for the Hot Spot, then guffawed non stop about it for the next hour and a half, of which none of us would ever get back.

Commentary crisis: Ten now comes before Nine

I’m certainly not a fan of the channel 9 commentary team, but I’m struggling to see why Ray ‘ company man’ Warren would want to decrease the viewership and erode the fanbase of incredibly expensive content? Viewers are advertising dollars,so regardless of the quality, you would expect it to be talked up.

I’m actually genuinely puzzled!

Stop worrying and learn to love international rugby league

Good work Muzz, I’ve got this. Tomorrow’s headline:
Hayne leaves Australia sour about NRL paycheck.

Hayne Plane touches down in LA

If a friend buys me a drink and spikes it, should I be responsible for what I’ve taken? Am I responsible because of the friends I’ve chosen, or that I chose to drink – without the explicit knowledge of what was in it? And perhaps more importantly, with the expectation that it was just a drink?

The latest ASADA move will end in a stalemate... again

Now I wished he’d gone to Rugby as well…

Fifita says he wishes he chose union

That would be okay if the penalties were cut and dry. I think this would make ref’s not want to blow to whistle for fear of making the wrong decision and almost guaranteeing a try as a result.

And what if two penalties were given? The team’s down to 11 men for 5 minutes? The fans would march on NRL HQ!

Send them to the bin, referee!

Yep, with you Mark. It’s how the referee’s are subject to post-game scrutiny that seems to affect their decision to use the send-off. And the referee’s (and their bosses) don’t want to have to deal with it. It’s a massively disproportionate punishment to lose a player for 10 minutes of an 80 minutes game for holding an attacking player down to stop a try, for example.

Any penalty that cover multiple infringements at the point where a team would otherwise have been likely to score should attract a penalty that significantly increases the team’s chance to score during that attacking ‘phase’…

I’m liking this idea of a powerplay. If a team had a player sent off for as long as the attacking side had possession following the penalty (say through repeat sets due to drop-outs or penalties) but gained that player back once possession turned over, the punishment against the defending team is in it’s context and does not affect the rest of the game.

Send them to the bin, referee!

They’re some interesting stats PA. I wonder how those numbers look for individual teams? Have the Storm won more games when they have had given away more penalties? The theory the experts are expunging is that if you’re opponents are on your line, and the defensive line is being run ragged, you’re statistically better off to give away a penalty and reset.

I wonder how many tried are scored after a penalty is given… or two?

I think you’re on to something!

Send them to the bin, referee!

The ref’s are as much a victim of the current rules as the players. I’m not suggesting ref’s are guilt free, but given the option of a third penalty on a team defending off their line or sending a player to the sheds for 10, you know which one they’d rather have to justify after the game.

Would love to see:
1. 5 minute sin-bin fouls.
2. 20 meter dropout restart after a penalty goal attempt.
3. 2 Captains reviews on referee decisions.

The 20 metre dropout would put the attacking team back in scoring range with a possible 2 points as a reward.

Send them to the bin, referee!
