As a Dragons fan, I always liked Soward, I wish he had performed like this for us.
Just goes to show what having a good coach with a sound plan can do for the confidence of a player.
We’ll done Sowie, it’s good to see you playing with a smile rather than that scowl your wore for all of Price’s ineffectual reign.

Jamie Soward is the best player in the NRL right now

It pains me to say this but I must agree, Slater should remain the fullback for the Four Nations.
GI at centre and Hayne on the wings with Brett Morris.
The Sharks look to have a good young fullback in Holmes if they don’t destroy him.
I really hope my Dragons unearth a good young fullback. I fear Quinlan is only a stop gap and Dugan may have found his rightful home at centre, although not a shabby fullback at all.

TURNER: In a comp full of freak fullbacks Slater still reigns

Too true Liatrevlis,
Ricky’s rants are becoming more nonsensical. He is destroying the Raiders rant by rant. The most pertinent import should be a recognised successful coach, with a proven record of youth development. Then a few experienced players may want to go there.
I too am worried for the tiger cubs Jack, Farah is really not putting the club first. The board is a disgrace. Poor Mick Potter can’t win. He is the only one there that can hold his head high.
The players need to stand up for their coach and realise that if they stick by him things will improve. They need to band together and tell Farah to pull his head in or leave.
A good culture is created by a number of players but can be destroyed by just the one.

Is team culture built?

Nice team Mike,
Although I would make two changes.
I would start Higgers over Fardy.
Fardy seems a shadow of last years version, I’d even consider dropping him altogether for Hodgson.
And Simmons over Skelton, bring on the big fella at 50 min mark.
Simmons won’t give the same impact off the bench to finish the game.

The one that got away from the Wallabies

Possibly Jack,
It really depends on if the younger players have bought into said culture and still believe that they are not bigger than the club.
A lot does depend on the incoming coach. If he believes his way is the only way forgetting all before him, then it all falls apart.
Sorry Liatrevlis re-read your post, get what you were saying now.
I’m sure a few Raiders fans were wishing they could say “who’s Ricky anyway”

Is team culture built?

Two things.
First Jack did you start puberty this year?
And Liatrevlis can you answer me how “Ricky” cleaned out Manly.
Sorry I’m being pedantic, maybe I should ref a Bledisloe match.
But thirdly a good club culture exists when you have a board, coach and senior players all pulling in the same direction with no one thinking they are more important than the club.

Is team culture built?

I was in Fiji in late February and by chance caught the same flight home home with Petero.
To see the way he was flocked to by Fijians was amazing, also by Australian tourists for photos and autographs. He dealt with it all with gracious humility, not knocking back a single request. Even though one Aussie bloke would not leave home alone and had obviously imbibed to many Fiji Bitters, Petero kept smiling and chatting, breaking away to the loo for a break from him.
On a side note the Fijian bloke he was with I’m assuming it was his dad was monstrously huge and a lovely bloke too.
I believe that the NRL has a responsibility to assist with making the Pacific Island nations thrive and succeed, internationally and in their domestic leagues. It will only help the game on every level.

NRL plan to grow in the Pacific region

Seajay23 you are spot on about channel 9 cross promotions of their shows. That’s what adverts are for.
I can’t stand when Rabs goes on mid game about the block or whichever show they are promoting.
Worse still is when they cross to the gambling odds I change channel very quickly.
The NRL sold our games soul for a few filthy lucre and we are expected to shut up and take whatever rubbish they feel fit to shovel out.

NRL's cross-promotion round was super

Johnno, the kids of today most certainly do know and love these old marvel characters.
Marvel have made a fortune over the last 10-15 years from comics, movie, cartoons, toys and mainly Xbox and play station games.
They release new versions yearly sometimes more and the kids eat em up.
I thought it was an ok promotion however it was done half arsed, as most things the NRL do.
All teams should have been allocated a superhero, but the club should have had final say on team colours. The Sea Eagles should never have worn blue and yellow. And anyone who knows the history of Wolverine would know that yes his traditional spandex uniform was yellow and blue but he has worn various battle suits throughout his life.
On the Ray Hadley point he is a disgrace, how many times do we have to hear old golfing stories of him and Rabs. He just doesn’t get the difference between commentating on a game and his ridiculas über right wing love fest of a talkback radio programme.
I’m surprised he doesn’t get Scott Morrison in the commentary box to harass some poor refugees.

NRL's cross-promotion round was super

I respectfully disagree Astro,
Any game representing your nation especially an Olympics or World Cup, should be held in the highest regard not farmed out to younger guys or vets to try and raise their profile.
All players regardless of how much their contracts are worth are risking opportunities when playing any game whether that be for their club, country or a pick up game. Injuries happen remember Luc Longley injuring a shoulder I think it was, body surfing. I recall someone I think it was Vlahov( memory sketchy here) cutting his hand washing up the dishes.
The thing here is that unlike football fans who would be aghast that a player would choose club over country for an Olympics or World Cup that basketball fans hold the NBA in such high regard that nothing else matters.
I can understand that owners and management would not be pleased having to pay for these unfortunate injuries especially when they happen not under their watch but for the greater good of the basketball world we can’t afford to see the stars of the game not turn out for their nations.
I for one cringe when nearly every tournament certain players claim ” I’m not playing as I’m injured or need to recuperate for next season” we all know who they may be. Although granted some have gone through numerous serious injuries it still seems as if their saying “The guys who pay my exhorbant wages have told me not to play”

NBA stars should play for Team USA, despite risk of injury

I did Pickett I finished my schooling in Ireland and got an agricultural degree there but it was a struggle.

SPIRO: GPS rugby has to merge into a Sydney-wide tournament

As someone who in ’91 ’92 and ’93 was offered a scholarship to Joey’s to play rugby, although I recall they didn’t word it as a scholarship. I decided to stay down in the ‘gong as I was forbidden to play club rugby.
At the time I was playing juniors on Sat and seniors on sun I played 3-4 games per weekend plus school during week then for country and various school rep teams. I couldn’t get enough rugby. I also played basketball, League, hockey whatever sport I could play, most definitely to the detriment of my education.
I do regret not taking the chance as it would have been wonderful however it just didn’t sit right with me that Joey’s saw it as their right to dictate my life once they owned me with the scholarship.
They were woefully condescending seeing themselves saving this poor boy from a life in the coal mines or steelworks in the ‘gong.
They did no research on my background my father was a very successful property developer and my mother held a doctorate of law and medicine( the academic genes were recessive) so if they wanted to my parents could have afforded any school in the country.
At any rate I enjoyed my state schooling and loved my club rugby, I left the country after being expelled from school and played club rugby in Ireland where I injured my neck rugby quickly became a thing I used to do. I now own a thriving dairy farm on the beautiful mid north coast and could not be happier.
I guess everyone will have different experiences and opinions but in the scheme of things it is only schoolboy rugby whichever way you look at it. It should be played for fun and enjoyment and no one should dictate to any kid what and who they can play a game for.

Morning All
I’ll be watching this most glorious of finals in front of the fire at The Federal in beautiful Bellingen red wine in hand. Other than being at the game which I sorely regret is impossible for me on Saturday night, I will be relishing watching the Tah’s win their first title against the greatest franchise we have all had the pleasure to watch.
I think we can all or mostly all agree that it will be a cracker of a game containing three off the greatest kiwi players in recent times and some wonderful Tah’s talent. As much as I like those stats for reading sakes that’s where I will leave them. Those pesky Sader’s will be extremely tough to breakdown however I do believe we have the team to beat them.
My prediction Tah’s 28 Sader’s 22 with the Tah’s scoring a brilliant 83.2m try at the 77 min mark by Foley to take the crown.
Enjoy all.

Waratahs metre-eaters to run all over Crusaders

Sorry to be pedantic Rangaraider but the author did state 10 teams. Hard to take your comment seriously if you don’t read the article correctly. On that point c’mon Wolves.

Semi-professional, fully committed: The FFA Cup could be won by an outsider

Welcome Meron.
Well written article my friend. All are memorable moments, good and bad. I only hope that in time it won’t be remembered as the World Cup of the biting incident. Suarez deserved more than four months for that disgusting act, and for Uruguay defending it is almost as bad. But to lighter and more poignant memories, waking at ungodly hours to be enthralled by the group stages, the sight of so called lightweight nations standing up to and sometimes beating the more credentialed nations, always love an underdog. The way Australia played although naive in defence and relying on Cahill in attack, the future looks bright. James Rodriguez a wonderful talent. The Keepers Keylor, Neuer , Howard and Ochoa all were brilliant. And finally the fans, the atmosphere in all stadia was amazing. Now on the back of this and the Olympics I truly hope that the social disparity in Brazil will improve. ,
