well Republican, as a Sydneysider (proud kiwi though), my experiences are the opposite mate. The AFL has cornered the Gay and Lesbian market and some soft men who’s wives wear the pants but mate, go to any BBQ in Sydney and AFL won’t be the centre of conversation. In fact, I think league, soccer and rugby have really started to grow even more so in the last couple of years in Sydney. My nephews school had the ozkick people visit, so is my nephew now one of the 70, 000 junior NSW players. You blokes just see what you want to see!!!! Republican, your game is for big girls mate. High scoring is what you want??? why not open the goals 50 metres apart and you can score by the thousands per game. I keep saying, you blokes are brainwashed. Sydney accepts football (soccer) because it is skillfull, but AFL is just bloody designed big girls blouses!!! sydney is australias only international city and likes its sports with an international flavour

yes but that makes us selfish to want them to stay here till there last drop of sweat on the paddock. I would be happy for hayne to experience sporting life in England, Ireland, Wales, Italy ,France , japan or wherever he chooses. I can tell you now bro that if AFL was played in Europe at pro level there would be thousands of young aussie AFL wannabes giving it a shot. We should celebrate that our young men can travel and experience so many different cultures and experience. I have played rugby in the UK and France and I would not change it for anything. These AFL fans who say we are lucky because we get the best of the best everyweek are saying that because its the way it is and its the way it will always be so why not spruik that fact. If my son had an opportunity to play rugby on many different continents experiencing many different cultures, I would be happy for him.

your the only one comparing between the two sports bro. football is the biggest team sport in the world, we all understand and realise that. But rugby has really made big inroads around the world in the last 5 years.

I really think that in OZ with help from their Kiwi brothers, they should combine league, rugby and football into one marketing body to repell AFL from our traditional heartlands.We all share the same stadiums so why not fight as one!! The AFL can’t co-exist with established codes in NSW and QLD and NZ. they want to be the alpha male and dominate/destroy other sports. football, rugby and league can co-exist so should fight AFL together.AFL will not be happy until it is the last code standing!!!!! every Victorian I have ever met absolutely hates league and they are symbolic of the AFL. they will never be happy till League and the other codes are gone from OZ and NZ.

Kraisch, league and rugby boys are cross coding these days bro alot with mixed results (Brad Thorn is a big exception). Most young players who commit to NRL or rugby have had a taste of both codes. That just leaves AFL. Why would SA or NZ rugby boys want to take a big pay cut to play NRL/AFL in OZ. They can go to Europe and play the game they love for big Euros. Maybe the AFL boys could get a rugby team together to play a kicking style rugby game against a B grade Boks….lol

I remember when plastic screw-in studs first came in. They would get as sharp as a tac, especially if you had been walking on concrete. The referees use to check our studs before we run on to the paddock, but you would cop a touch up if you were in the bottom of the ruck. The bottom of a ruck can be a nasty place but hey bro, no pain no gain, thats why we love it.
