I think the league as a whole is getting stronger and this year should be very exciting with most teams having recruited well. It will be good to see Newcastle fighting near the top again.

Jets zero in on A-League finals after flush preseason

I can think of worse candidates.

Graham Arnold open to idea of coaching Socceroos

Pffft…flog the Roar? Tell him he’s dreaming! 🙂 May the best team with Aloisi as a coach win!

New A-League season launching with a whimper, not a bang

Not sure Ange will go back to a back 4 now that the players are used to a back 3 but who knows. I don’t care as long as we get to the next stage.

It's now or never for the shaky Socceroos

Milligan could play at the back, allowing Luongo to play in front of him in the DM position. Degenek SW, Wright left and Milligan right.

It's now or never for the shaky Socceroos

Hi Pacman, you have pretty much said exactly what I said in a subsequent post. It looks like a perfect model.

The league table is the only metric that counts

Agree 100%. Successful and very careful planning HAS to be done with engagement from all forms of the game but I do think that the NPL was created for this reason and it negates the massive expense of inter state travel except for the winners, so the budget does not need to be too high.

Sort of like the Non league teams in England do it.

The league table is the only metric that counts

I think we can stay with a 3 man back line now but it can be tweaked to many different formations. We need Leckie on the right of a front 3 with Kruse behind Juric so maybe a 3-4-3 or a 3-3-1-3 would work?

It's now or never for the shaky Socceroos

Just curious. Would you say that the NPL could qualify as the 2nd division with no P/R?

Once that is stabilised and successful and sufficient planning is done, could it be used for P/L, as long as the team to be promoted met certain criteria ala stadiums, etc??

The league table is the only metric that counts

I really hope that we will stand up and be counted in this. They are knockout games and nothing under 100% will get us anywhere.

It is going to be quite exciting!

It's now or never for the shaky Socceroos

Well done Nemesis. I am in a remote area and the internet is not the best

It's now or never for the shaky Socceroos

Just checked, he came on with 30 minutes to go and not credited with any assists but had 2 out of 2 successful takeons and 3 intercepts. Not bad for 30 minutes!

Hopefully he will get more chances now.

It's now or never for the shaky Socceroos

That is a fair call jb but everyone has his weakness and Mooy has his, is aware of it and plays very well despite it. He has been instrumental in most Huddersfield games and has scored a couple of goals too, when was the last time an aussie scored in the EPL?

Tottenham were always going to be too fast and too slick for Hudderfield and there is no shame in him being bested by top class internationals.

It's now or never for the shaky Socceroos

Thanks Nemesis, I had forgotten that. That’s great news in that they have planned it well enough to allow P/L to happen.

All it needs now is for the financial side to line up.

The league table is the only metric that counts

If we play like we did against Thailand we will be fine, we were very unlucky not to score 2-3 more goals. A draw or a win in Malaysia then come home to finish it off. Kruse, Leckie, Mooy, Rogic and Juric are in top form and Bailey Wright is doing well with Bristol City.

It's now or never for the shaky Socceroos

We will have promotion/relegation soon, but I don’t think it can happen until the contracts FFA have with the clubs at the moment expire and new contracts are written.

We certainly have the teams and the interest for this to happen and I cannot wait until it does.

The league table is the only metric that counts

Hmmmm…Juric, Kruse and Leckie are scoring goals for fun for their European clubs with Leckie playing in the Bundesliga.

It's now or never for the shaky Socceroos

So by your logic every team that wins the league has bought it?

Stop complaining, money can't buy the Premier League

I disagree, it did not buy them the league. Abramovichs arrival meant they could buy a better class of player and compete at higher levels but since he arrived in 2003 we have only won the PL 5 times. Surely if we were buying it we would have won in 2004 and a lot more titles?

Stop complaining, money can't buy the Premier League

I always think generalisations are a dangerous thing, I don’t fit in any group.

I starting supporting Chelsea in the 80’s as they were my first subbuteo team that I bought due to the colour of the strip. I have supported them for 35+ years and have never been to England. I know all the players and can give you who I think should play from the top of my head.
I got rid of Foxtel as it was a waste of money and have no interest in Optus.

However, I am not a eurosnob as I was the first president of the Queensland Roar Supporters Club and I have been a season ticket holder for just about every season since inception. I was in the stadium until the end for all 3 grand finals and I rate the first one as the most amazing feeling ever in my sporting life, bigger than Chelsea winning the Champions League with RDM.

I'd rather watch the A-League than the EPL

The upgrade for Ballymore was submitted by the QRU and approved years ago but unfortunately the Rudd government withdrew the $20 million they had promised. The application was on the Government page and I checked it every day.

It is a great stadium for football due to being close to the pitch and if City get approved and upgrade it, it will be a 22,000+ stadium with great facilities and a fantastic atmosphere.

There are train stations nearby and the busway is not far and there were plans for buses from Roma st via the busway. Transport was mentioned in the approved bid and the government was happy with it.

It is exactly the sort of stadium we are looking for and with Rugby having massive problems it would not take much to get it.

CBS's investment in Ten could give football a once in a generation opportunity

I understand your point but it would be folly to change the system and mentality when it has steadily been improving every game and we are looking like the real deal now. I expect us to take it to Japan and qualify with style, skill, movement, pace and strength.

Ange Postecoglou must abandon his attacking instincts against Japan

Thanks mate, I do get a bit precious sometimes! 🙂 I agree, it is a definite worry but we have been resting players. I sincerely hope we get a couple of new signings before the season starts but on a positive, Skapetis looks like a real good pick up.
I like our mix of experience and youth and we will see what it brings this season and the impact on future seasons. This season will be a real test of Aloisi and the management, I am hoping they pass with flying colours!

I was all gungho when both seasons (EPL and A-League) we going but every since I have backed off and not written any articles. When I get time and a subject that gets me interesting I will be back writing again. Hopefully next time I will eliminate any errors typos etc BEFORE it gets to the editor. Its bloody hard to proof read your own work.

Where have all The Roar's old readers gone?

There are a multitude of reasons/stories behind the Roars results, some concerning, some not.

I am “Pro” because I wrote quite a few articles and made a lot of comments. I give my opinion and I gave my opinion in this. I find it perplexing that people bag them when it is just preseason. Sure, the FFA Cup is important and they should have done better, but that is my opinion and I am allowed to give it. Just because it differs from your opinion it does not give you the right to question my status and to all intents and purposes attack me.
But maybe, in this forum, it does.

You post reinforces the comment on my first post and I deliberately said what I said to get a response and prove my point.
