Of all the commentators and reporters that FOX let go,Simon Hill
and Daniel Garb should have stayed and of the ones that FOX DID decide to stay, then perhaps Tara and Slater(and Archie for that matter) should have gone.Nothing disrespectful about my previous comment.FOXTEL and Murdoch are running a business, and they saw fit to let Simon,Garby,Adno etc go and not others.I am purely thinking as to which people at FOX offers the most value over a number of sports and those who are the opposite, and IMHO,Simon and Garby (and Adno who is well versed in football, rugby, and cricket) offered greater value than both Tara and Slater.BUT,I am not the head honcho at FOX,so I am not the one making those decisions.AIMHO.

Simon Hill's departure from Fox Sports leaves a gaping hole

Your last line is pertinent,as a few A-League clubs of late have gone out on their lonesome and have produced their own in house pregame shows streaming on SM.
And the days of judging the ratings of a program on traditional methods are numbered. This is where, for the time being, both RL and Aussie Rules will continue to shine as their core fan base are older and not as tech savvy as football fans are.

I get the feeling that FOX got rid of those who are ‘one-dimensional’.And kept those who at the very least have a minimal proficiency in a few sports.

Great read Stuart.
The lack of trust and unity from both fans and media with the FFA is proving to be
a major problem for the game here.
Just look at the Stajčić debacle (we STILL don’t know the real reason why he was sacked),and over the last few days, the defamation case from Football QLD against Bonita Mersiades over an article she put out in January, which in no way was defamatory.

Not only is Slater useless, but how on earth did Tara keep her job?
I know the answer to that….her husband Cooper who has a cosy gig
over at FOX League.
And they even have Tara hosting the Superbike & Moto GP shows.WHAT ??

Yes.Bobo’ is a marquee player, but part of the reason for Bobo’ and the entire Sydney FC teams’ domination for last season and a half is the sound recruiting done by Arnold,in a competition that ATM is stifled by the Salary Cap.Look at Mierzejewski this season, whose salary falls in the ‘Cap.A master stroke signing. And just imagine no Salary Cap in A League. The Sky Blues would attract (trying not to be disrespectful to current team) better players at a not-so older age from top leagues.

Bobo is having the best scoring season in A-League history

I suppose if by getting in free to the AFLW,that $$$ which AFL would have changed for admission WOULD be spent on purchases inside the ground,if the caterers don’t charge an arm and a leg.

Two big questions that will determine the future of AFLW

Agree 100%.Start charging the same ticket prices for AFLW as they do for AFL,and then we can gauge the crowd numbers. And only THEN can the ladies talk about remuneration approaching that of the men.
I might also add that the amount of time per quarter played needs to be the same for AFLW as to AFL.ie.20 non-continuous minuted per quarter.Coming from a non-speaking background,It is what attracted me to Aussie Rules, the fact that paying fans get 80 minutes of actual play, unlike my favourite sport of ⚽️ where the clock doesn’t stop, even when the ball is out of bounds or a goal is scored

Great article Bootsa.Just look at MLS and how well the authorities work well with the active supporter groups over there.Take the Portland Timbers for eg,with their mascot using a chainsaw to cut a piece from a log for every Timbers’ goal scored.I would love to see something similar in A League,if the narrow-minded mainstream Aussie sports public can see thru false perception of Oz ⚽️ fans.

Active support, passive leadership: What makes the A-League great, and what's holding it back

WOW.Completely forgot that Beau Casson rolled his left arm Chinaman in 1 test vs WI.Now speaking of Hope, would it be inconceivable to pick him for upcoming SA tour?

Don't compare Lloyd Pope to Shane Warne – he'll be much better than that

Hit and giggle cricket.I will take test cricket EVERY day.

It's all about the money and let's not pretend otherwise

You mention there are 6 teams too many in NRL.OK.How about a 12 team NRL and a 8 team NRL2… ie a 2nd Division. At least that way you would have meaningful games at the bottom of NRL where teams not in the running for semis have incentive to remain in NRL and not be relegated to NRL2.AND,you would have a proper H/A regular season of 22 games in NRL where, unlike present situation,ALL teams play each other twice

It is time to kill the salary cap and let the market decide for itself

Has anyone considered promotion/relegation for both NRL and AFL? ATM,you have situation where teams who have no chance of making the playoffs having little incentive to play at their best (except that in the AFL,the team who finishes with the wooden spoon is ‘rewarded’ with the No:1 draft pick).

People are arguing that they dont want NRL/AFL becoming like EPL,where its the usual 5 or 6 teams who vie for the title. And yet, look at Leicester City (at 5000/1) with a fraction of the budget of the so-called big teams, winning 2015-16 EPL.What these people don’t understand about the EPL is that there is also an intriguing relegation battle at the other end of the table that goes on.Teams trying to avoid the drop into the 2nd tier and therefore not just losing their place in EPL,but a major financial hit to boot.Remembering that the team who finishes last in EPL gets more money at end of season that the winners of other European domestic competitions like Serie A,German Bundesliga.

It was interesting that Tim used the example of the 2004 Canterbury team that won the Premiership. As a (disgruntled) Bulldogs fan,it has put me off following the team that I love since the 1979 team that fell short by 4 points against St George in the decider.WHY? Because of the way the dreaded Salary Cap caused players that the Bulldogs developed from a young age (which Tim mentions),becoming superstars, then, understandably, these players expect to be well paid,AND THE BULLDOGS CANNOT KEEP THEM FROM GOING TO OTHER CLUBS WHO OFFER MORE MONEY.I can only imagine how that 2004 team would have dominated the best part of that decade if that team wasn’t dismantled.

And please dont get me started about the ‘artificial’ AFL and their uneven schedule.

Cheers.

Sam
