Cricket can’t solve Australia Day conundrum - it’s not up to sports to make tough decisions for governments

While living in Japan I found it unusual that soccer was played during summer. If you have experienced Japanese summer, its brutal. Hot, humid and no breeze to speak of. Going to matches would require at least 6 Suntory tall boys (brought to you in your seats by sweaty teenagers carrying trays up and down the aisles, cash only as is everything in Japan). Not only is the heat rough but it goes up against baseball which the Japanese are mental about (also beer required as it is the most boring sport invented) and itls out of whack with Europe. There is snow of course but most of the major cities are spared the worst of it and if the Germans can deal with it, so can Japan. I’m not sure Australia is ready for the switch but we should keep a keen eye on what they are doing up there. Japan has deep football talent and a love for this big, brown land. I’m shocked that more Japanese aren’t playing in the A League. Hiroshi Ibasuki loves it here and his kids are speaking English now. Rather than playing J-2 or J-3, Japanese players should be enticed here.

Should the A-Leagues follow the Japanese example and shift their seasons to winter?

It would be nice to see a team south of Rome win a title. This team though, much like the city which hosts it, will break your heart.

The incredible rise of Napoli, Europe’s most exciting team to watch

Like you I nearly cried and hid under the bed. What good would that do us though? We need to stand strong and show the racisms that we are stronger and better and we can rise above their nonsense.

'Sick to the stomach': Night of utter shame as Welcome to Country booed and fans display Nazi salutes

If you have followed Australian cricket over the last 20 years, you never underestimate the ability of Australian selectors to make embarrassingly bad decisions that they never face accountability for. Expect Tim Paine to be chaired onto the MCG on Boxing Day to the standing ovation of the Victorian public.

Welcome to the internet kid.

You should watch AFLW this season: A letter to my fellow men

The AFL was an awful standard this year. It really is tough to watch. The umpiring is infuriating, the rules a mess, the administration don’t even. But oh yeah, that one game. 5 of the 9 games on the weekend were 10 goal blowouts. Dat one game tho…

I feel guilty enough wasting any time watching the garbage the AFL serves up to its clapping seal audience. I can justify it slightly if it is pouring rain and cold out. But watching women getting their heads slammed into the ground while the sun is shining? Not gonna happen.

No mention of the penalty shootout kerfuffle?

Club Miniroos teams coached by mums and dads (not professionals offering specialist training) charge about $800 a year. School soccer charges about $80. That’s what I’ve seen in metropolitan Adelaide anyway.

Not much change from $600 for Miniroos down my way.

In doing so you will reduce the ridiculously expensive club fees which cause parents to do a 180 back out the door when they are told how much it costs for their kid to kick a soccer ball around the park.

So Australia’s golden generation grew up in the early 80s when soccer was barely accepted by the media or public. Now with all the money, media coverage, youth popularity and public support – Australia has zero players in Europe’s top leagues?

I’m beginning to like Cummins more and more. Why should he be the one to push for a result when Pakistan has done everything up until now to want a draw?

Cummins' captaincy questioned again as Australia fail to declare on Day 2

His record holds very well against the all time greats.

ANALYSIS: The 'dick pic' that helped scuttle Langer and fast tracked a natural born leader

These guys are more important than their boss. The average Joe isn’t. Modern sports are run by the players. It is surprising that the so-called “gurus” on this site don’t realise this.

Justin Langer resigns as Test coach with immediate effect, camp blames 'faceless few,' CA reacts

Has Langer been that successful? Haven’t won an away series for a long time. Lost at home to India. Can’t win on the SCG. The middle order still a house of cards. An Ashes series against a Shield level England and a T20 World Cup? Whoopdy do. If that is success, we set a low bar.

Precisely. People have short memories of why Mickey Arthur lost his job as coach.

That was a dumb idea. It’s stuff like that why the players don’t like him.

Gee whiz Cricket Australia know how to ufck things up, don’t they? Tim Paine was a car crash, the England tour was cringe and now this. Cricket should be the easiest sport to run in this country yet the authorities have been drinking their own bath water so long they don’t realise what a poor job they are doing. Langer should have been told to move on last October so he could win the England job. He will now have to be moved on after the imminent loses in Pakistan and India. The players don’t like him and never will. What’s the point of keeping him on?

This situation has been around before with another Muslim player on the verge of playing for Australia having a sook over wearing the VB logo on his shirt. Both teams have Muslims and there should have been non-alcoholic stuff to spray around and made sure the players and commentators were aware of this.

Irakunda was copping some bad body language from his teammates for the same thing. Even a particular debutante!

How do you rate the A-Leagues' new broadcaster so far?
