Collingwood Magpies and Cronulla Sharks tragic. Massive fan of F1, AFL, NRL, Cricket and just about anything where a bunch of people put on the same outfit and run around after a ball. Fair minded and open to debate, love having my opinions challenged, in a robust but fair way.

Larry, its not the 1970’s anymore. Its called duty of care, and coaches and players can be up on serious charges for that sort of thing.
The fact is, the send off rule has been put out to pasture. Ref’s don’t use it for blatant offences. If a replacement was allowed, the ref would be much more willing to remove a certain player from the game, knowing it wont effect the outcome.

I do like all three players you highlight here Paul, and am happy with any of them in the team. Inglis just looks like a cricketer (I heard a commentator in a Shield game mention he looks a bit like Brendon McCullum when he is batting and now that’s all I can see….).
I guess comparing them to Stoinis was a tad strange, given Stoinis offers much with the ball (granted you did also point that out). I can see a time when all four of these lads play in the same team.

Nice article Paul. I tend to agree with your assessment. They really need to get tougher on foul play, it is a blight on the game.
I have always been a fan of allowing a replacement player for a sent off player. Its clear to all that referees do not want to send players from the field, they don’t want to be the headline for ruining a game of footy by making it 13 on 12. If Kaufusi is told, “you are off mate, not coming back on”, but the team can use an interchange to replace him, how is that not better than the current situation?
Anyway, I’m a fan, but feel I’m in the minority on that one.

But in the end, we have 2 Mercs and a RB on the podium. So not much difference from days gone by.

Not blaming the clubs for taking money, but the system is hopeless. We create an “independent’ commission, and when it says the clubs have to cut back, they rebel, they fight, the Daily Tele / Fox League gets on board and the NRL have to cave. That’s exactly what happened. Exactly. Go and look it up. Then Greenburg gets blamed by Daily Tele / Fox League for mishandling the money.
Yes, its a balls-up, but I know where I lay the blame.

The whole “Todd ruined the finances of the game” is bollocks, invented by the likes of Paul Kent and James Hooper, and regurgitated by their followers. It is incorrect. The finances were ruined by the clubs, who take take take, and are run by people who could not run a stand alone business if they tried.

But I agree in general that racism has been a part of footy (and society) for a long long time. But its time those at the top called it out, and stamped it out.

Thanks Buffalo, I must admit I haven’t been following rugby as much these days so wasn’t aware of this. Sounds pretty much what I am after, with perhaps a slight change to 10 mins, rather than 20 mins for the NRL.
