Like I said to Chris, rego isn’t my hill to die on, I’m simply pointing out other areas the money can go to, such as grassroots where all professionals come from, rather than professionals who feel entitled to a slice of the pie they didn’t bake.

Matildas set for equal pay under landmark deal

Alright you win, let’s keep the A league at 10 teams and watch it die. Back on topic, how do the Socceroos benefit from losing revenue they raised? Would you rather see the matildas or Socceroos win the World Cup? And FYI basketball is the 2nd most popular and played sport in the world for both sexes, it is the closest comparison to football we have.

Did you read my reply at all? There is no comparison, the A league and FFA will benefit from WU and Macarthur, more teams and interest means more money, which the FFA still get a share of. It isn’t apparent how taking money out of the Socceroos pockets is somehow supposed to give them a boost.

That’s fair, this isn’t really my hill to die on, my problem is simply the matildas getting money from Socceroos revenue.

For context, I grew up playing rugby league in the country before there was billion dollar tv deals, where it is not a priority for funding, it has always had affordable rego. One of the complaints of that money was the grassroots seen none of it, the strong clubs survive through gate fees and canteen, so in short, no it doesn’t have to do with tv deals. FYI, I paid $350 to play soccer this year, and had to ask for a pair of socks and shorts, there was a shortage of refs, no crowds came to watch, no canteens, from where I’m standing, outside of NPL, grassroots are neglected. FFA got 336mil, no small fee, where did that money go?

That raises the question, if participation is already so high, why do professional women need a pay rise out of the pocket of men? When the argument for it is this will get more women playing?

Matildas set for equal pay under landmark deal

I’d disagree

Matildas set for equal pay under landmark deal

Same as the men and kids really, why pay hundreds rego and get nothing to show for it, when I can pay $50 to play another sport and get kitted out? I’ve heard of NPL teams not being able to field women’s sides, my local couldn’t field a adult women’s side, whilst women’s league and rugby is growing in participation. People are saying this will get more women to play, how does paying professionals more benefit amateurs who do it for fun? Not everyone ends up professional but you need that participation to produce professionals

In a way it is, I buy a ticket or a jersey to support the Socceroos, feeling in some small way I am helping them, now part of my investment goes to the matildas. Sorry to say I don’t care for spending my time or money on women’s sports, a lesser product in a less competitive environment

It’s not equal pay, ironic you calling people knuckle draggers when you don’t understand simple math, this is equity

There is an argument to be made for funding women’s sport in this scenario as the top teams in the EPL end up making more money because of the growth of the whole league, however, we have a real life example this isn’t the case. The WNBA has never turned a profit in 20 years, it may have got more women careers as professionals, but their male counterparts pay their salaries, it didn’t make the sport in general anymore money, as no one watches, even women prefer watching the men play. So we end up decreasing funding to the Socceroos, who people watch more and want to see win in a more competitive international environment. If you had to choose, would you prefer the matildas or Socceroos win a World Cup?

People’s argument is it’s an investment, It’s not, it’s a reward for something that hasn’t been achieved, it’s the cart before the horse. They didn’t just start paying male basketballers and footballers 30mil a year because one day they will be worth it and it will get people to play, those men grew their sports into industries worth billions, they earnt their share. You mention Rhonda Rousey, she was the highest paid athlete in the UFC, because she made bank for them, people paid to watch HER fight, she also doesn’t support this woke BS, no woman that earns their share does.

Then they should of just given them real equal pay, the same % of their own revenue, the same % share the men get from the revenue the men generate. Then if you want to support the women, attending their games or buying their jerseys is directly helping fund them. Receiving hand outs shouldn’t make a person fell valued, it is entitlement, I personally play sport because I like it, not because I feel the sport “values” me. We will see in time how good of “investment” this is, I’ve already said if you wanna invest in the sport, give the money to grassroots paying hundreds in rego, instead of handouts to professional women

Well done FFA, you can signal your virtue to the whole world, whilst grassroots struggle, WNPL in particular.
I think you need to take “equal” out of the headline, it is the same pay, not equal

Matildas set for equal pay under landmark deal

Are you joking? This is a disgrace, they are getting paid more than the men now, the men bring in more revenue, yet they will have to spilt it 50/50? How is that fantastic?

GRAPHIC WARNING: Everton midfielder suffers horrific leg injury

You will not eradicate rascism, and the rascism in football is likely more prevalent right now in Europe due to the migration crisis. Meaning the onus is less on football bodies to “eradicate” rascism, and more on governments and the EU as it is a societal and cultural issue.

Football has more work to do to stamp out racism

Sydney may be an “event city”, but I’m having a hard time counting sport as apart of that these days

Channel 7 not even mentioning WU’s first game is evidence of this, I’m guessing other MSM didn’t either, this is also evidence that MSM’s demise is their own fault for being rubbish. But bugger them, oldies watch the 6 o’clock news, that isn’t the A league’s target demo

I think we are naturally moving towards more exciting, attacking play, stake holders are aware that sport is entertainment. Rudan coaches that style, City has made a change in style, after the World Cup I read Arnie’s sentiment coming in as coach as “if we are gonna lose, we are gonna lose playing an entertaining brand”. You can have the best defense in the world but it doesn’t matter if you don’t score goals, on top of all this, of course people who play the game (kids especially as the future of the game) want to play that way, because it’s fun!
