Cronyism alive and well in Qld. My son gave rugby away at 18 because nobody explained any Pathway to him and felt city was favoured over country players. He played in rep teams every year from U11 at state carnivals. Now he rarely watches the game at age 22.

The five Aussie young guns who should be celebrated - and the one who is ready for the Wallabies

Brumbies result v the Blues then the Canes demonstrates in tight pro rugby a bye is a hindrance no matter how hard you train. In my playing days I loathed byes.

The Wrap: Rebels young gun rockets out of Wallabies contention, and why Samipeni Finau's 'brutal' hit on Edmed was fair game

Very negative. I believe SR has appeal but you won’t get fans to games when ticket prices are so high. Make ticket prices more in line with NRL and you might get more bums on seats.

Rugby Australia announce $9.2m deficit, board member fails to be re-elected but coup falls over

Forget about the Lions Tour it will be a money spinner. It’s this year we need to support. So everyone if possible need to get tickets to the Welsh and Georgia tests followed by the Rugby Championship THIS YEAR. Full houses not only good for the finances but a full blown display of support for the players who I believe are a good chance of beating Wales, Georgia and NZ

Rugby Australia announce $9.2m deficit, board member fails to be re-elected but coup falls over

Rugby started losing support 20 something years ago when it moved away from free to air tv. Various women’s sports have grown hugely thru FTA tv coverage. While most people today can afford pay tv sports in the early days it was not affordable.

UPDATE: RA say they were blindsided over Rebels' finances, reject private consortium claim as administrator backs club's survival

That’s where all their ABs are selected from tho.

'Easy to throw stones': RA chairman hits back at mudslingers' 'hypocrisy' after calls for AGM board cleanout

To be fair the Reds were good last year when they played up here, some of them spent good time with the juniors. But even the young grade players would love some attention, dare I say it a beer at the pub after training??

'Easy to throw stones': RA chairman hits back at mudslingers' 'hypocrisy' after calls for AGM board cleanout

When your super rugby players don’t make the effort to mix then local heroes won’t happen. A few years back in NZ a local kids comp asked the Chiefs if a couple of players could come and visit the Friday kids comp. Yes they said. TEN players turned up. NZ players do it because that’s the culture of rugby there

In a perfect world what you say is right however kids want heroes to imitate and that’s where winning Wallabies are important.

Yes we may fall under the state admin but when you are in competition with an NRL team in a regional centre you have to have your top teams aka Wallabies firing plus we all feed through to the top with our contribution. I might add two years ago the Reds came to town for a super rugby match and saw fit to go and watch the Cowboys on a friday night and ignored 1200 juniors at the local comp. That went down well. Don’t seem to see Reds administrators here talking to us either. But we are bushies not metro.

Last year I warned that if we didn’t start performing at the Wallaby level, here in Townsville we may not survive until 2026 or 2027. This year down to four first grade teams from a recent seven. In twenty years following rugby here I have not been aware of any RA board member or exec visit Townsville, the strongest country comp in Qld. We are rich in assets with a wonderful hq here and passionate supporters. Personally I think we are taken for granted by the citycentric hierarchy. We are out of sight out of mind. The PR from above is pathetic. As a dedicated supporter I feel absolutely frustratingly powerless. Perceptions matter and the perception is RA is RQNSW and is a ring fenced old boy network. For crying out loud Mr Herbert/Waugh get around your kingdom for once in your lives and see how tough it is out on the local footy paddocks. You might get some wise feedback too. Creating clear pathways for juniors with consistent skills training might be a start

When are Australian teams going to learn how to shut a game down and close it out with five minutes on the click. You sure don’t do it by kicking possession away. Tahs did deserve the win. Looked fitter and more hungry than a sad Crusaders. Take a handful of stars away from the Kiwi teams and they become just another team. New ABs coach realising the mountain in front of him with all their superannuants elsewhere. I suggest he is in a mild panic in fact. Our super teams need to realise that to win you need top fitness and consistent high energy effort right through a game with somebody with a rugby brain to read the game every minute to direct the team.Discipline or lack of knowledge of the rules is one of our problems also. I believe we can select a very competitive team this year that can win games. I’m positive about our upcoming performances.

'Last few years have been hell': Iceman 2.0 Harrison gets 'dream come true' in Tahs' stunning golden point win

If these players want to go, let them go. If they can’t read that Australian rugby teams are back on course and the Wallabies have a decent coach who needs a couple of months to sort a good squad then we don’t need them. I know we don’t have much money at present and the admin is struggling to reset but I sniff a win over Wales, Georgia and after that look out ABs etc in the rugby championship. The players and coaches can lift us out of the negative mire we have been in very quickly and all it requires is attitude and hard training/Yakka. I’m feeling positive about it

RA reeling and facing a mass exodus of biggest stars - there are three key reasons why they're in peril

I’m over scrums being all about power. I’m over halves feeding the ball into the second row as a matter of course. I’m over constant scrum penalties where as the spectator you can’t understand the refs decision. I much prefer the old contest by hookers for the ball. I’m over the breakdown where cheats win penalties by making out they are trying to reef the ball out but aren’t while ten forwards stay out and form defensive walls or attack pods. Bring back rucking, nobody ever got hurt rucking, just the odd sprig mark. I’m over incessant bash to score a try, and so is the casual rugby spectator who pays to see the ball thru hands. I’m over watching tries from lineouts via a maul.Rugby could be so much better if we could watch more than thirty five minutes of ball in play per match. Scrums and lineouts are allowed to waste so much time.

'Concede points there, they're done': Moment England missed to bury Springboks as ghosts of 2019 return

The Dick Marks coaching programme won us two World Cups effectively and the hangover got us to a final in 2003 before its effect wore off and it’s been pretty much downhill since. John O’Neill got rid of the scheme because he said it belonged in the amateur era. He was the amateur..

'Semi pro sport at best': Ex-Ireland HP manager's scathing critique of Aussie rugby, and dire warning for its future

My 21 year old rep playing son gave up rugby three years ago because he couldn’t see a pathway he told me this year. Where are the talent ID scouts. Where are the rugby coaching academies embracing uniform skills training. The pathway may be there, it’s just not explained and written out for kids. RA in 20 years has never visited Townsville on a purpose filled visit and talked to rugby people on the ground. The Reds two seasons ago played a game here and went to the Cowboys league game on the Friday night and ignored 1200 kids playing rugby. The regions are ignored. Rightly or wrongly the rugby supporters see rugby administered in the Inner Sydney/Brisbane metro and to hell with the rest. If you want to make it in Australian rugby you have to go to either of those two. Why? When will Phil Waugh venture out of Sydney. I bet he hasn’t yet and hasn’t thought about touring the Australian rugby fraternity. Time to rid ourselves of narrow parochialism.Costs kill parents sending their kids to rep carnivals. The AFL leave rugby for dead and have done so for years in junior support and organisation. At the end of next week it’s time to clean out the coach, tell the players next team is selected six weeks before the next test and all positions are open. Hamish McLennan you did a good job in difficult times but own your stuff up and resign. Change the constitution to ensure some more representative democratic board members are elected. It’s hopelessly outdated how the admin works now. If the Wallabies don’t start performing soon then kids and young adults will leave in droves . It’s happening already.

'Semi pro sport at best': Ex-Ireland HP manager's scathing critique of Aussie rugby, and dire warning for its future

Underwhelming. Donaldson good yes but he was never under pressure. Carter Gordon still only just doing the 10s job. Team looked like it was using the game to develop pattern of play and build combination. Some good signs tho for the first time in many tests.Liked Petaia and Marky Mark together and thought the 14 was my man of the match.

Player ratings: Skelton, Tupou Wallabies' best despite Donno's day out in World Cup opener

Methinks too many bloggers never saw Poidevin playing. If we had players today who were as fierce against the ABs as Poidevin we would have a far better record than we have in recent years. Probably the most fiercely competitive Wallaby in my memory dating back to late sixties.

Greatest XV: 'Best player I've seen' - Australia's magnificent 7, despised by All Blacks and cherished by Eddie

Memo to Messrs McLennan and Jones. Our club rugby comp can’t wait till the next world cup otherwise we won’t have much of any competition at any age group.
We need winning Wallabies now as our numbers continue to crumble at club level. As a postscript you don’t need to recruit leaguies if you have your pathways from club set up right. I have been nearly 20 years in Townsville and never seen anyone from Rugby Australia nor aware of anyone from QRU show any interest here. Wake up to yourselves and stop being city centric. Our code goes beyond Sydney and Brisbane. Our costs for rep juniors are high due to travel but not a skerrick of support from above. Forget the millions for league converts and put some towards the foundations. Come and mix with us and talk to us

Exclusive: 'I back him 1000%' - RA chair endorses Eddie's 'bold, brave' Wallabies selection for RWC

Australia suffers because we lose to the ABs often. We play them more than anyone else. We have as good a record against them as anyone else. Still, not overly excited about the result. Too many dumb mistakes for this level. Can someone get Skelton running onto a ball, tell Koreibete to trust his inside backs in defence and stay on his man in defence. Abs scored because he was in field. McReight was going well, leave him on. Liking Tom Hooper more and more. Tate as captain missing in action as a captain

Bledisloe heartbreak: Eddie's Wallabies denied by last minute Mo'unga penalty as ABs seal stunning comeback

Eddie, Eddie. Developing young five eights?. Between you and Rennie you have cast aside Lolesio, and Ryan Lonergan the half with the fastest service, good kicker in play as well as goal kicking. Lolesio far and away more complete composed playmaker ahead of Gordon and Donaldson and Edmed. Tate Mc Dermott is behind White, Lonergan and Fines-leleiwassa in my opinion. And Eddie work on skills and discipline. The ABs learn skills as kids while regrettably in Australia we still need to teach wallabies skills like correct passing, grubber kicks, when to pass when to hold. Oh and tell Koreibete to stay out on wing in defence otherwise put Wright there if you won’t have him as fullback. Petaia in fact should be a fullback after a top season there with the Reds in Super Rugby

'Load of rubbish': Eddie slams Carter critique ahead of ABs rematch, says Wallabies must 'invest' in young 10

Two years out from the World Cup blind Freddy could see Ryan Lonergan and Noah Lolesio should have been nurtured as our halves. Now nowhere to be seen by Eddie or the Sydney,Brisbane critics. Can’t win a world cup with old halves and McDermott poor passer and poor game manager. Gordon long way off yet.

Studs and duds: 'Can't do that in Tests' - Tate flaw exposed, Hooper divides opinion, 'absolutely incredible' Angus
