Englisman turned Kiwi. Aspiring sports media maestro!

Yea they complement each other well Chris. It seems to me that England have been searching for that third prong in the pace attack for quite some time. They’ve tried Steven Finn, Chris Tremlett, Graham Onions and Tim Bresnan. Logically you’d think that to complement Anderson ad Broad you’d want a tall bouncy bowler like Tremlett or Finn. But I think Bresnan fits in well. He just has that knack of taking important wickets and always does his job.

Anderson the most overrated player in Test cricket?

Yep it would be a little risky. I think I’d rather see them pick Panesar if they do indeed pick a spinner. Swann has been far below his best this series and Panesar always seems to step up when his country needs him,.

Ashes Preview: If England can fight back, it'll be a triumph for the ages

“What to you think makes the news. Polite clapping and a gentle pat on the back. There is an old saying that bad news is better than no news.”

What should be making the news is the quality performances of the players, not their verbal remarks that aim to put the opposition off. I enjoy seeing a bit of banter as I’ve alluded to in the article, but my issue is when these remarks cross the line and end up interrupting the game.

By referring to that old saying of bad news is better than good news are you suggesting that cricket has become so boring that it now requires players to sledge to make it entertaining. I certainly don’t think it does and I think real cricket fans are entertained by the quality performances and the level of cricket in a match and not the immature and unnecessary rubbish that gets thrown around.

Sledging: It's just not cricket

I agree Daniel. England often talk themselves up and do not deliver and rarely live up to the high expectations that they are set. Nevertheless, I don’t think it is in any way accurate to directly couple England with defeat.

England’s Ashes: a premature post-mortem

Cheers for the update Boz

Brave Root stands tall against onslaught

Cheers RWB. Hopefully the lads can pull something spectacular out of the hat in Perth!

Brave Root stands tall against onslaught

Agree with you Chris. If they pick four pacers I’d like them to stick with Stokes and leave Ballance out. England also have the part-time spinning options of Pietersen and Root who could come in to hold up an end for short periods.

Ashes Preview: If England can fight back, it'll be a triumph for the ages

“Defeat, it seems, is a safe bet where England is concerned.”

I can’t begin t describe the ignorance of this statement.

England have won the last three Ashes series, a RWC in 2003, T20 Cricket World Cup in 2010.

I’m sorry but I don’t know what you’re talking about. When was the last time Australia won something worth noting?

England’s Ashes: a premature post-mortem

Here here biltongbek. That man will be Alastair Cook.

This Ashes series is already over

I don’t think you can credit Mitchell Johnson’s sledging to his performance. He’s been given MOM twice because he has bowled spectacularly and he would have taken the wickets he took even if he hadn’t run his mouth. To be honest I feel like the Aussies are getting very cocky very fast. They’ve only won 2 test matches. Lets not forget that they previously got thumped in India and England.

Brave Root stands tall against onslaught

If the captaincy isn’t enough to worry about then this current teams age will be. This will probably be players like James Anderson, Ian Bell, Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann and Jonathon Trott’s (whose already gone home) last Ashes series. There’s going to be a big rebuilding phase and Cook will be expected to lead from the front.

Clarke and Cook's legacies may be defined by Perth

Amazing that Cook is only 28 and already notched up 100 tests. In my mind he could go on to be one of the greatest ever England players.

Clarke and Cook's legacies may be defined by Perth

You forgot Wayne Rooney when mentioning the standout players so far this season. He looks a different player under Moyes and is many ways carrying United this season.

Man U fans need to sit back and enjoy the rollercoaster

Charles Piutau instead of Ben Smith. Smith has had a stellar season, but Piutau was immense on the end of year tour.

My international rugby team of 2013

Completely agree with your comments about Alastair Cook Morgan. The lads been out of nick this series but we all know that if he fires England will fire. Anything less than a century in Perth will be a failure in my mind, which sounds harsh but it is a reality of the situation that England find themselves in.

I like that you’re recommending Boyd Rankin to play. The guy is massive, bigger than Chris Tremlett I think, so that will bring in a sense of intimidation. He’s also fresh which could count for a lot in Perth. Jimmy Anderson will also see Perth as a chance to get back to his usual prolific form. He’s been relatively quiet so far, but, like Cook, if he fires England will fire.

Can’t wait for it all to start tomorrow!

Clarke and Cook's legacies may be defined by Perth

I think that transitional period will be at least 3 to 4 years John. Can United afford to go out with silverware for that long?

Moyes not the only one to blame

England would surely bowl. The deck at the WACA is fast and bouncy and is known as a tough pitch to bat on. A few early wickets for England could boost the confidence levels.

This Ashes series is already over

Not much Morgan, except developing a reputation as the worst converter of fifties into hundred in test cricket. Have you seen his stats?

SPIRO: The Ashes haven't been won back, yet

David I’m not denying Mitchell Johnson’s class at all. He has been the standout player of the series so far, without doubt. It just looked to me like when someone was finally getting on top of him he was getting vocal and that paints a picture of a player who isn’t quite capable of taking the rough with the smooth.

With regards to Watson, it was not his place to get involved in the sledging, it was Johnson and Root’s little battle and it should have been left that way. Once Watson started talking as well the umpires had to get involved and, to me, that shows that Watson’s contribution was unwarranted.

At the end of the day, despite our opinions, it does make for great viewing!

Brave Root stands tall against onslaught

Yea true, probably a little harsh to call it a flop, but they did show a dip in form and like many I linked that to Sturridges absence. Still can’t agree with you on Agger and Skrtel. They just don’t look very composed at the back, especially Skrtel who has been poor this season. Their mistakes could prove costly for Liverpool come the end of the season.

Moyes not the only one to blame

If it wasn’t likely a week ago, it surely is now. Even Vaughny thinks so. How has all this happened??http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/cricket/25277829

Is it too early to consider 5-0?

This is just one example of the negative knock-on effects David Moyes’ tactics will have on United. They’ve started playing boring, ineffective football. What world-class player would want to play in a team like that? I think the most attractive thing about playing for United was the fact that you’d be playing under Sir Alex Ferguson, the greatest manager ever. That carrot has gone now and the replacement is not as appetising.

Moyes not the only one to blame

I’m inclined to agree with both of you here. Yes Root hasn’t got going quickly but Morgan is right, that sort of aggressiveness has been England’s downfall so often in the series. However, generally Root wouldn’t be coming in after 2 or 3 overs. Cook is a world class opener and Carberry has shown he is capable, so if these two do their job and build a strong platform for the first wicket then yes Root should come in and continue to put the pressure on the bowlers. Root didn’t have that platform to work on and consequently had to build it himself, and he did so slowly. I think his experience opening the batting for England was valuable for him in this innings.

Brave Root stands tall against onslaught

I’m heading to the MCG for the fourth boxing day test. Gutted that it’s probably going to be a dead rubber. Drowning my sorrows with the Barmy Army should do the trick. They’ll keep singing and drinking even if it gets to 5-0.

England better brace for another Johnson onslaught

Yea Daniel definitely agree with the Liverpool signings. Sturridge has really stepped up this season and his importance to the team has been proven; since he’s been inured they’ve started to flop. The goals have dried up without him. Interesting that you relate to Suarez as a signing. I agree though, keeping Suarez was probably the signing of the summer besides Ozil’s move to Arsenal.

Liverpool actually have similar problems to United in terms of who they need to bring in. They need mother established centre midfielder to accompany Gerrard and they are in serious need of a decent centre-half. Agger and Skrtel are useless and Kolo Toure needs a strong partner.

Moyes not the only one to blame
