Certainly looking more like the Socceroos I remember!

I was a bit nervous actually when Bresciano came on for Massimo because I felt we were losing an important defensive component in the midfield; placing more pressure on Jedi. Legend though he is, I don’t recall the last time Bresc made a successful tackle, and Troisi is hardly imposing in that respect either. I’d be willing to see him on over James, though that’s likely about the full extent of my willingness at this stage.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Jedinak nabs a hatrick at some point in this competition by the way. That right boot is absolutely lethal.

2015 Asian Cup: Kuwait crushed in Socceroos’ cup opener

I’m surprised to see so many irascible over the conditions (which were certainly of questionable conscionability) given that, as notorious scrappers, they suited the Wanderers style of play far more in their propensity to impede elements of aerial supremacy, counter-attacking and physical endeavour in 50/50 challenges far less than Azul’s possession play. The referee was understandably struggling along with the players, though I didn’t find him discernably inconsistent between the sides.

Were a bit fortunate to finish the first half with 11 players, with Spiranovic’s nonsense reminiscent of the Simunic saga in that match. Frustrating to see the game thrown away on dissent.

Fantastic strike from La Rocca in spite of it all and another brave performance from Covic. Go Auckland City!

Wanderers out to defy odds at CWC

Bring back Holman 🙁

No room for Wilkshire in Ange's 46-man squad

As nice a fellow as you’re likely to meet. It’s entirely unreasonable to resent his decision to chase the money at this stage of his career, particularly when you consider he procured his first professional contract in his late 20’s.

As a Roar supporter my frustration with the salary cap has never been more tangible. So the fallout from our seemingly criminal endeavour to create some semblance of legacy continues. You can authoritatively argue the caps value to long term stability but the blandness and aridity with which it coats the league becomes nonetheless increasingly oqaque with each passing season.

Best of luck, Smithy.

Brisbane Roar agree to release Matt Smith

So many potent finishers in the Victory side at the moment. Ruthless is an apt description of their play. Actually thought Mariners player the better football for much of the match but obviously failed to take their chances or ultimately adapt when their central defense lapsed to gift the first goal. Thought Leijer should have been sent off in the first half.

Good to see Simon find his feet again. He’s going to be crucial for CC this season.

Agree completely.

Roar and Glory share the points

Easier said than done mate…we were already within 2% of the cap while they were here and both were being paid perhaps half of what a liberal market would determine.

In a salary capped league you almost have to shuffle the deck completely in the hope of stumbling across a few unpolished gems. ‘Legacy’ is a frustrating omission from the footballing dictionary in this country.

Roar confirm Frans Thijssen as interim coach

Woke up everybody in the house when Jedi scored. Knew it was good from the moment he struck it.

Palace winning was a more than welcome distraction from the rather austere week I’ve had following the black and orange. Warnock has placed a lot of faith in Mile’s head and right boot compared to Pulis and it seems to be paying off. Will never forget his 30-yard screamer against Millwall in their last championship season.

Sadly, it is true. For one thing our managing director Sean Dobson would have surely quelled this by now were these unsubstantiated rumours, though instead we’re only hearing about the dreaded press conference. For another, we already have the replacement’s name firmly encased within this storm.

It’s so incredibly unusual to see this kind of unilateral dismissal when supporters aren’t volubly calling for it…it’s all very depressing and terribly confusing. I don’t suppose we’ll be fully informed of the rationale or presume to ever discover exactly what internal forces induced this response. Horrible comunication.

Confirmed: Brisbane Roar's Mike Mulvey sacked

True. I think it was actually Leckie’s man on that occasion. Really though, given the questionable communication in this side I don’t understand why we aren’t using a zonal methodology on set pieces. Even playing amateur football with my club we quickly established man marking was just a recipe for concession on corners. Ned Zelic said as much after the game as well incidentally.

Your bet is as good as mine mate 😀 Unfortunately the time for experimentation ends here. At this point I’ll probably apply my remaining optimism to the conviction that Kruse is capable of a lot more than he showed in these last few matches, so ideally he can find some form with Leverkusen before January.

Interesting to note that as soon as Cahill entered the fray, Japan substantively dropped the intensity of their press and immediately returned the game to us. It seems to me that their advanced positioning was attributed to an entirely justified fearlessness of our ability to play over their heads without him. If the opposition is wholly unconcerned with our forwards, they may concentrate principally on obstructing supply to our midfield. So Timmy still constitutes the lone route to scoring goals, which unfortunately bodes rather poorly in the final third for the less immediate future. Still, I honestly believe we would have won this match with him on the pitch.

Was pleased for the most part with the selection of Jedinak, McKay and Luongo in midfield. We actually produced a genuine engine room capable of some intelligent play, which the inclusion of players like Milligan has impeded for some time. Bresciano (legend) and Nichols, were accordingly a bizarre substitution in my mind given that they both lack semblance of defensive mentality and simply don’t fit into this system.

I miss Holman.
