My cousin in whom is involved in UK rugby reckons Wayne Barnes might be keen to get out of reffing and is keen to get in to punditry. Not sure how serious he is but aparrently it may be a thing.

Owens calls time on international career

Well I was at the pub supporting my local rugby clubs raffles, you know helping the “grassroots” of aus rugby…

RA turn to Optus for TV deal

I feel the veiwing numbers are misleading. I have kayo, but Friday night I watched both arvo games at the pub. My point is not everyone has fox, so if you want to watch you have to go to a mates place or the pub to see it. Don’t know say the ten people watching it at my pub counts as one viewer or what. I just think its a bit cheeky of fox to use viewer numbers as an excuse. The truth is we don’t know how rugby would go on free to air, because it was never really tried. Of course the time to have tried would have been back in 1999 to around 2003ish, when the game was super popular not now.
Also a news Corp paper reporting how hard done by and what a great job another news Corp entity is doing just seems a little bit suspicious to me.

RA turn to Optus for TV deal

When everybody bangs on about putting money in to grass roots what are they actually talking about? shute shield/Brisbane comp. level, school boys, country club rugby, under sevens… And so on. It just seems the “we need more money in grass roots” call comes up as as way for people to solve all rugbys problems. Basically can anyone come up with a clear definition of what grass roots are.

Although if money in grass roots means my rugby rego (in other words the money I have to pay for the “privilege” of playing the game I love) goes down, I’m all for it…
