There is no difference. Be surprised – its good !

The thing no one wants to say about Israel Folau

Errr … they did. It was called the Soviet Union. It collapsed in a heap after slaughtering about 50 million of its own citizens.

I’m surprised you haven’t heard of it …

The thing no one wants to say about Israel Folau

??? really ??? Strange comment …

If Cheika wins the RWC then we will forgive him EVERYTHING!!!!!

Take the win, acknowledge the issues, gear up for England

Agree Piru – but I would point out too that the AB’s were committing cynical penalties from the first few minutes – I see that as a “Tell ” in poker parlance – they were worried.
And they were right to be.

A loss will be good for them – especially one like this where they were well beaten all over the park by a great IRE performance – you do not see that happen very often.

Irish give New Zealand a bitter pill to swallow

yep agree – AND on a dry track the AB’s would’ve really been able to dominate scoring.
(imho)

Sir Brodie takes Prince Maro off his high horse at Twickenham

Ralph I agree – the fan thing is more than slightly odd, it’s just poor.
We need to support teams/people in trouble, not kick them when they’re down.

Accountability yes.
Vindictive douchbaggery (as was on show by the fan after the loss to ARG) is just unacceptable.
If I were Tui, I would stop also. Who needs that sort of abuse from people wearing your own jersey ?

Crazy Idea: Let’s show the Wallabies that we support them, through thick and thin.
That might just be helpful …

What will the Wallabies be like after the World Cup?

Errrr
Who exactly will replace him ?

This is the problem.

If Michael Cheika cares as much about the Wallabies as he says he does, he should resign

Nice article Dave – I agree with the gist – we have to get over the excuses and work harder and smarter –
(and happy to remind you that there’s no Patriotism like EX-patriotism! )

But I think Lion Down Under makes a salient (I spose social ?) point in comparing the 2 countries –

there are many others things to do in Oz, many other sports where a kid can rise to the top –
And I LOVE NZ and kiwis, love their rugby, as it’s light years ahead of anywhere else in the world, (not just Oz)

but the same is just not true in NZ. In NZ it’s Rugby first, daylight second … and Third to twelfth.

Oz has 10 (at least) sources of national sporting pride. Ummm …. NZ has one BIG one …
The focus on the AB’s is all consuming in NZ.
This used to create massive chokes at RWC’s.Now it creates results.

I’d reckon 75% of Australian public would not be able to even name a Wallaby. Nor care either way.
As Lion points out, at 14/15 guys start getting big, and the playing the game starts really hurting.
So Kids make other sporting choices/get poached by the other codes/sports.
And never want to play professionally anyway, as there’s many MUCH easier ways on making a buck.

And that diversity in life opportunity is likely (at a broad level) why so many Kiwis choose to live in Oz.
Dave? is that you maybe ? 🙂

I’ll finish ranting with this:
Being stuck in Sydney traffic and loving rugby makes me want to live in rural NZ!!

What would I know, Australian rugby? I am just a rookie

Room for improvement ?
Sure is, especially when normal rules simply do not apply to one team … possible the one in black …
The only time anyone has a chance against them is when they’re reffed properly …

WB’s were truly atrocious is second half – lost their brain.

All Blacks say still room for improvement

Tahs pulled one out of the fire there – Brain dead at first then moments of brilliance.

I would point out that the home town reffing advantage was very strong over these quarters.
The Crusaders were just reffed under different rules it appeared, getting away with murder on the deck,
And Marx was rarely if at all keeping his own weight when winning his various crucial breakdown turnovers in the Lions win.

Why oh why cant we get same rules applied to both teams ??
Makes it interesting I spose … AND infuriating.

Kurtley Beale, Israel Folau and Bernard Foley inspire a Super Rugby semi berth

+1 Melon

I would also add that there are MANY (not just some, but many) other professional players who agree
with Folau on this issue, but are terrified of saying anything lest they get excoriated in the media as Folau is,
and/or lose their jobs.

We either have freedom of speech, or we don’t.
Calling words “Hate speech” and forbidding them means you don’t want freedom of speech.

I think we should have freedom of speech, because the alternative is being told what you are
and are NOT allowed to say, and that is simply not on. Well, if you value thinking that is …
We are talking about rugby players after all!! 🙂

Why is Folau untouchable?

USA Kiwi

Crusaders played that game under different rules to the Tahs.
That was the main reason they won.

Does the Tahs' opening 30 against the Crusaders offer them any hope?

Rugby is administered so very badly both on and off the pitch.
It’s a travesty to all fans. Would not be tolerated in any other sport anywhere.

2 weeks suspension for Moody is simply the icing on the cake –
Complete proof (as if any more were needed) that different teams play under different rules.
And the administrators do nothing.

Most strangely, its the best teams that get the easiest rules.

Little wonder Super Rugby is a Zombie Tournament, awaiting the axe.
Kill it quickly please.

Does the Tahs' opening 30 against the Crusaders offer them any hope?

Be honest: Everyone knew the Baggy Greens have been cheating for years

Errr…. ummm … but …. remember Lou Vincent ?

A while ago yes, but it does seems clear that ALL teams have been caught cheating at some time or another.
Cannot think of an international team that hasn’t had a scandal or 5 …

But to me, this highlights the ICC and national cricket authorities’ complete failure to maintain standards
in the tsunami of cash that makes up modern sport.

V sad.

BIG punishments that hit the wallets hard of any top players caught cheating is the only solution to this.

Be honest: Everyone knew the Baggy Greens have been cheating for years

+1 Riccardo.

I would also add:
the AB’s play the ref better than anyone else and this has boosted their (remarkable and impressive) record over the past few years.

Who else could beat last Saturday's All Blacks?

Thanks sheek – and great article Nick Bishop –
I couldn’t agree more – “Super Rugby is Terminal.”

It feels good just to say it out loud doesn’t it ?

Let’s put Super Rugby out of its (and OUR!) misery, scrap the lot, and get back to the basics :
providing a televised pro comp that has a rational structure and produces exciting footy
that the public want to watch.

TV ratings and attendances are just shockingly bad, in both SAF and Oz.
So very sad.

South African leopards are changing their spots - can Nathan Grey?

If it’s a special “partnership” situation, then it should not be treated as a usual employment industrial relationship – should it Mr Combet ?

Sheesh – complicated – but I agree with Pedro – if the Ashes is under threat then the players will take the brunt of the blame. Image is everything these days ….

DIZZY: Sort this pay dispute out and let's get on with the cricket

Jordie Barrett was offside at the box kick prior to the first try.
The first penalty of the match was unarguably wrong as Warburton won the turnover ball fairly and yet was pinged.

That’s 10 points that Poite gave the ABs last night.

Please stop saying the ref cost the ABs victory.
He didn’t.

In a game of fine margins, Barrett cost the All Blacks a series victory

Ha ha ! Nice.

Five talking points from All Blacks vs British and Irish Lions second Test

They weren’t last night. They lost.

Five talking points from All Blacks vs British and Irish Lions second Test

Yes rebellion.
RWC 2011 final anyone ?

Five talking points from All Blacks vs British and Irish Lions second Test

Plus one jumbo.

Five talking points from All Blacks vs British and Irish Lions second Test

Ummm … well …. sort of …
ABs were terrific – but I think the telling stat is
ABs created 3 try scoring opportunities and took all 3. Clinical.
Lions created 4 – and took 2. If they change that around it’ll be closer than the article portrays I think … if that break in the first minute was a 7 pointer to lions then … if if if!!!!

French refs for the next 2 tests mean different interpretation of breakdown especially –
And always add some unpredictability!!

Dominated and destroyed: Is there any hope for the British Lions?

Kiwi teams on top
Especially in the cynical play aspect.

Seriously – they know when and where to be cynical with least impact. Beaudy Barrett getting 2 yellows
was frankly a huge surprise given how often that is ignored. Refs need to clamp down harder.

Good attitudes too often go unrewarded
Cynical play too often gets the choccies.

Hurricanes too good for Waratahs in Super Rugby
