Will have a calming effect, plus more(?). “Quirky” is classic, deadpan correct. Cool move, thanks S

ANALYSIS: How lost soul re-emerged to become Eddie's Wallabies 15 - and the surprising back-up who could still star
Hold that thought…
UK View: England like 'totally shot', 'brainwashed zombies', invoking 'fury and dejection' and worse than under Eddie
True
Exclusive: 'I back him 1000%' - RA chair endorses Eddie's 'bold, brave' Wallabies selection for RWC
If we front France with the kind of 23 they fronted Fiji with last night, yeah.
But France may front with 23 of their best A team players (unlikely?) as a true warm up for NZ opener, assuming we lose it, then weigh up how much net benefit we get, given we have Georgia + 2 more must-win games + Portugal. Plenty of game time plus keep gas in the tank for peaking at the QF and beyond!!!!!!!!!

Would be good if we don’t play that game. It’s a distraction.
Plus Eddie will want to do the triple reverse psych don’t show them how we play pike with twist, which will leave players dizzy and potentially dent confidence/progress.

But against Fiji? Maybe
Doubts of a Wallaby: The maligned cross-code star who fought through tears to make Eddie's RWC campaign
I suspect it will be James O’Connor.
We don’t have to officially commit squads until 1 Sep i think, after FRA warm-up
Eddie was right about one thing in epic spray - the Wallabies must stop being reactive and accepting of mediocrity
ouch

He’s in OzA v Portugal at least

I wish him well; have no doubt he can shine in attack, but obviously worry about his D.
It isn’t just about being a convert. His D was not great in League. He got caught out of position.
Hard to coach top shelf D; it’s about the read of the game. Who’s the defence coach again?

I’m ordering the pie. Just checking the date: deep = winning our QF (so we play the SF), so 15/16 Oct OK? Or do you agree with LuckyPhil below that SF means nada?

I don’t know which team he is ultimately planning for but guess it’s France or Ireland. Agree that we need to get there first, and that means winning pool games + QF +…
There is a risk that he leaves a horrible mess behind but also that we win big.

yeah true, is not smart

I’m a Rebels fan and despite the losses I would say yes, 2023 better than 2022.

True re tier 2 but EJ is all about coming good / peaking at the right time. We’ll see (fingers crossed). But as for skills: yeah, what a SR season or 8 we’ve had…

RWC News: Eddie's surprise new Wallabies coach revealed, fresh scare for ABs, Richie fumes at 'slap in the face'
The big transformations go sideways, backwards. Clive Woodward 1997-1999. Then come good: 2003. The examples you give were not 2 months before a WC. The timing for EJ has proven to be very tight. But he is obsessed about this WC

Rennie started with 0-3 (1D, 2Ls) in his 1st month (Oct).
EJ 0-3 (3Ls) in his 1st month (Jul).
Then Rennie goes 1-2 (1 W, 2 Ds) in his 2nd month (Nov).
Eddie is 0-1 (1L) so far, with France ‘practice’ game to play, in his 2nd mth (Aug).
Rennie did blood heaps of players, which was excellent & didn’t have Giteau rule relaxation but no WC pressure either. (Btw, how many Giteau players are -> France?)

Counter-factuals galore, but for me Rennie is more predictable: lots of yellows, lots of injuries, and maybe the boys would have pulled through, who knows. To me, EJ gives us a wider standard deviation + volatility in the lead up – ie. unpredictable, but more likely to W on the big ones in a WC cauldron, while also piling on some Ls while he’s tweaking the plane midflight.

I think many transformations look iffy along the way.
Planning is one thing, but humans are complex animals.
Judge them at the end (October).
Or judge now and think the end result at WC is not correlated – your call.

I think we are still within the time window this WC) to see the transformation play out.

If nothing else, EJ has been an iodine contrast, revealing us either (A) bivalent (the psych/management meaning of) or (B) comfortable with ambiguity.

humble too
