Warne supplied his teammates at RR the confidence to believe that they could beat any side on any given day. The likes of Yusuf Pathan blossomed under his tutelage. Are you implying that getting the best out of his team did not require man-management skills?

Why best friends don't make the best teammates

Waugh is a better role-model than Warne, that’s for sure.

Why best friends don't make the best teammates

I agree, in general, a short period of time isn’t an indicator of how someone would fare over a longer period. However, I don’t believe that holds for Shane Warne. I’m also sure that if there was no Steve Waugh in the side, Warne would have been an automatic choice as skipper. After all, it was the same Establishment that swore in Michael Clarke, and see how that turned out for them.

Why best friends don't make the best teammates

I don’t see why it’s so much of a problem. Let the bowlers treat the ODIs and T20s as practice and cut out bowling in the nets. Let them reserve their best for the Tests. There … that resolves that whinge!

For the love of the game, give cricket back to the bowlers

I’d really like to see Serena clinch her 22nd and even a 23rd perhaps. But she has to win them, not have her opponent’s too overawed by her and lose without putting up a fight. You have to admit that Serena has lost that air of invincibility and that she wasn’t red-hot coming into the Australian Open. That she went all the way to the final is more than a huge credit to her. She has been known to be knocked out much earlier in majors whe she’s been rusty or sidelined by injuries.

How did Serena lose the unloseable?

Kohli’s known to be passionate about his cricket on the field and is able to channelise most, if not all, of his aggression into his batting. Would he be the same player if he were unable to express himself so uninhibitedly? I wonder.

Virat Kohli again proves his worth

I think Kohli’s behaviour on the field is not typical of most Indian players. But at the same time, he’s been the stand-out performer in the side after the exit of the likes of Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman and Sehwag. It’ll be interesting to see if fans and more specifically the Indian media forgive his abrasive attitude if he starts floundering. MS Dhoni is well aware of Indian fans’ vicissitudes; his house was stoned following the 2007 ODI World Cup debacle. He has learnt to treat both wins and losses with equanimity.

Why did Virat Kohli really sledge Steve Smith for that dismissal?

I think that the Indian team’s policy is to give as good as they get or what they feel they get. I’m not too sure if they’re very smart about it, though!

Why did Virat Kohli really sledge Steve Smith for that dismissal?

Thanks, AlanKC!

Why did Virat Kohli really sledge Steve Smith for that dismissal?

I don’t think anyone enjoys getting a send-off when dismissed. Not the Australians, and certainly not the Indians. It’s the most inopportune ( or opportune, depending on whose perspective ) moment to be sledged.

Why did Virat Kohli really sledge Steve Smith for that dismissal?

Thanks, Rellum. This was a speculative article, more tongue-in-cheek than anything else.

Why did Virat Kohli really sledge Steve Smith for that dismissal?

“Crowd catches counting as dismissals”.. that’s a good one.. and given the number of out-of-the-ground hits occurring in T20 cricket with shortened boundaries and bowlers simply helpless spectators to the carnage unleashed by brutish willows… they surely should!

Broadcasters getting too close to the action

It’s hard to believe that Hewitt could be embroiled in any sort of match-fixing. He’s such a scrapper. He’s one of those guys whom you’d choose to fight for your life on a tennis court. You’d always know that the effort wouldn’t be lacking.

Tennis Australia's thriving sponsorship market

The people who find the grunting annoying or disturbing mind it a lot. The others, like me, who can’t hear it or have blocked it out and only hear it when it’s brought to our attention, couldn’t care less. When a player’s winning, his or her opponent’s grunting is a non-issue. When they’re not…

Do we have a grunting problem?

Only point No. 2 seems doable. The rest will probably be opposed tooth-and-nail by the players.

Top five ways to improve tennis

Why would any match-fixer approach Federer or Djokovic?
You seem to forget that these swindlers believe themselves to be beyond the pale of the law and if inducements won’t work, they can be quite capable of resorting to threats and other heavy-handed methods.

Dhoni has always spoken his mind. He was termed ‘refreshingly candid’ when he kept winning and now that he’s not, it’s suddenly a bugbear!!!
