I’m a super rookie in terms of coaching rugby (or any sport). Don’t you identify the style of game that the AB’s struggle against, then pick players to execute that style?
You may not win right away, but an example from the NBA (basketball) is the 2016 Golden State Warriors (best winning record ever). The Cleveland Cavs simple drove the ball at their best player at every opportunity to expose his smaller frame on defence. He got frustrated and played poorly on offence and the Warriors lost the finals.
Yes you do need the required players to execute the game plan skill wise, but maybe it’s better to ‘play to beat team X’ rather than just playing your best XV.

Maybe refs give you X number of ‘questions’ per game. If you question 90% of the plays then a ref might get question fatigue. Interesting to measure how many times per game influential captains question a ref. Possibly Moore is at the higher end of the spectrum and therefore is told no more.

Did these players have these kinds of stats in Super Rugby or just in the RC? If just in RC then maybe the defensive system of the Wallabies coach are to blame.
Were they executing passes in SR? If so then maybe the style and speed of the game plan plus how time in training camp was spent are to blame.
