Pretty simple really ……..the landscape for football, all codes, is so demanding in Australia that only the fittest & best will survive. A League is clearly lacking the capacity to be relevant. Basketball had issues but knew how to re invent itself with great foresight and astute management.

APL's spin doctoring insults Australian football fans' intelligence - and might well be the last straw

Staging and simulation is in football’s DNA. Its a tactic fundamental to the most players playbook. If the game wanted to rid itself of this embarrassing reality, it would have done so by punishing such gutless behaviour. The game is complicit in enabling simulation.

Simulation crackdown: If they like the spotlight so much, put A-League actors up before the Match Review Panel

There’s plenty of football news in Australian media……… it’s just not A League.

Irankunda's brilliance, Sydney suffocate Mariners, 'blackout' prevented as NEP save the day

A defensive response no less ……….and most would disagree with you.
Football is the biggest sport in the world by a long-shot………..that doesn’t diminish the value or importance of other world sports or little sports as you call them.
Success, participation and relevance is their goal, not the size of the sport.

Are we a mature enough football nation to honestly discuss the Socceroos?

We have had many world beating sports teams and individuals holding world records.
Swimming,
Squash,
Cricket,
Rugby,
Cycling,
Basketball,
Athletics,
Hockey,
Triathletes
Surfers,
Etc …..
There are more, but my point is this Grem………your comment ” Australians like to think we are a sporty nation that punches above our weight. Football actually shows us we are not!”
That is a pretty shortsighted comment, we punch well above our weight for the small amount of population we have. Football is not the yardstick to everything sporting in Australia.

Are we a mature enough football nation to honestly discuss the Socceroos?

Is the New Zealand expansion team at the cost of another Australian team? If it is …..that’s just stupid

Cut the crap, money talks and Bill Foley’s new Auckland licence is exactly what the A-League needs

Chris, it’s not a question of whether I’d want to get rid of ALM as you put it????…….. not the point. I don’t know why you would say that?
The point of the article is around whether anyone’s going to buy Perth glory and the economics of it. Holistically speaking………. a club is not endlessly sustainable if it can’t pay for itself and someone has to keep funding millions out of their pockets to keep it afloat.
It’s a question of whether ALM & rugby too can survive the cut and thrust of the reality as a commercially viable entity.
BTW……I don’t see cricket in the same light, very well supported sport, internationally and here in Australia.

Glory back on the market after sale to Melbourne-based consortium falls through

It will never change. ALM cannot sustain the revenue / expense disparity.
Not enough fans, sponsors and a distinct lack of visibility as a mainstream sport.
Matilda’s are smashing every KPI, not so much the Socceroos but ALM is miles in the red zone.

You’ve got Trump covered Chris with your vitriolic hate.
You must hold the record for the mount of times you mention NRL or AFL on any forum on Roar.
Calm down, its sport not war. 🏉 🏏 🏏 🎾

Code wars rage on despite Matildas mania

Paramount cock-a-hoop with Grand Final viewership, as A-League clocks up some impressive numbers

@Grem ……..Costs ? Maybe but I doubt that is the reason, football has never laid out the welcome mat for the First Nations sports people.

APL should feel ashamed with its touted 'Festival of Football' looking very thin on the ground

Grem, how many indigenous players does the ALeague have? My observation is that they are not even part of football’s agenda. Never has been or will be. Be very careful how you categorise racism and don’t throw darts given football has dismissed our indigenous people.

Lots of interesting posts here ….. has anyone considered this?
The report commissioned by FFA by an external body, was to create an independent commission/board structure to ensure non compromised decision making. This was never adopted instead putting the clubs in charge as we know it today-ALM. Look at what has eventuated……. in the last 5 years the national men’s competition has regressed commercially due to incompetent management. All driven by self interest of club owners and weak leadership at FFA . There are so many bewildering decisions executed the recent past ( too many to list here) that defines the competition’s clumsy approach i.e KEEP UP, Paramount and of course Sydney GF’s for the next 3 years. No surprise ALM is where it is!

The A-League’s inability to make forward progress a result of all parties
