Ok so not so simple. I am a huge believer in Ben Darwin’s “cohesion theory”, plus given the rebels are quite clearly unfeasible, (sad for all directly involved) I believe RA should give up on unrealistic expansion dreams, retract and bed the game down in the heartland. But yes I was curious about the bigger picture hence the question…

The Wrap: Opening round of SRP a case of the more things change, the more they stay the same

(As an Aussie) the only full games I tend to watch these days are the kiwi teams. Oz teams I watch the match highlights. It hurts less..

At least Maloney is no longer channelling Daryl Eastlake. He has improved out of sight in that regard.

Geoff random question if I may. Do you know if RA need the Rebels for STAN negotiations because more teams = more televised games on STAN and RA can therefore negotiate a higher contract? (apologies if this was discussed elsewhere)

Agree.

Wallabies depth chart: The list that dispels the myth Aussie rugby doesn’t have enough players

Yep agree. I omitted to mention the injury toll. I have nothing bad to say about Rennie.

Wallabies depth chart: The list that dispels the myth Aussie rugby doesn’t have enough players

The last 3 Wallaby coaches have chopped and changed Wallaby squads in the search for the best 23, probably because the best 23 were not picking themselves. This has produced a large pool of players appearing on this list (defined here as “depth”). In this context depth does not equate to quality.. which is the main issue why we are now World # 9.

So whats your solution TWAS?

The Wrap: Unity, integrity and the other casualties of shameful leaks aimed at the Rebels

I had a boss like you once TWAS. Was always disagreeing purely for sake of disagreeing – no other reason.

You got that message from my comment? ..Genius

Rebels Super Stats (source Superrugby.com)
2017: Played 15. Won: 1 (7% win ratio)
2018: P 16, W 7. (44%)
2019: P 16, W 7. (44%)
2020: P 8. W 4 (50%) – Au teams only. 2021: P 13. W 3. (23%) 2022: P 14. W 4. (29%) 2023: P 14. W 4. (29%) Results speak for themselves. Cutting the Rebels loose is a no brainer. RA’s next big decision – Rugby representation in AFL heartland is no longer sustainable. The game in Australia must be able to survive before it can flourish..

Eddie Jones set to be appointed Japan coach six weeks after walking out on Wallabies

When do we next play the Cherry blossoms?!

Eddie Jones set to be appointed Japan coach six weeks after walking out on Wallabies

Yes. I’m in this new comfy feely age he should be reinstated back to Wallabies on basis of hurt feelings. He could rotate with Quade.

'Thank f--k': Why RA's new chairman has brought 'hope at last' - and won't be scared of tough calls

Herbert has 8 years in commercial positions with the Reds plus various other senior management roles in private sector according to his LinkedIn profile

'Thank f--k': Why RA's new chairman has brought 'hope at last' - and won't be scared of tough calls

(From this QLDer) let’s park the state based parochialism pls. It’s probably what strangled Oz rugby in the first place. The result is AUSTRALIAN Wallabies are where they are. Herbert seems like a good guy and has commercial experience (8 years with the reds) plus a measured approach. Id like to think, along with Phil Waugh and Joe Roff RA can pull it together to start making changes.

Very true. Hope they can get agreement!

The Wrap: What will the Wallabies' external season review reveal that we don’t already know?

Thanks Geoff. Yeah I understand (allbeit from media) that Hamish/RA is trying to capture Brumbies commercial revenue (QLD has dug in) as opposed to just High Performance program. My question is does a “centralisation” model that Australian rugby needs require state revenue in hands of RA? Have the others agreed to that?

The Wrap: What will the Wallabies' external season review reveal that we don’t already know?

Agree. He also wants to build an empire in the mean time (call it Centralization) and he’s p#issing off the states in the process. He is actually the worst thing for Australian rugby right now, but it somehow feels inevitable. For years Sydney centric RA has been treating Australian rugby as their own plaything and appointing the wrong people, and finally they’ve landed a rampant egomaniac who refuses to take responsibility/ is blinded by his own narcissism, who has also developed a power base around himself who cant/ wont topple him. His aggressive approach will (is) ruin the centralization process, nothing will get done and Oz rugby will continue to sink. The limited review, which wont be published, is an obviously deferral tactic (classic Canberra playbook) to buy time until the temperature drops and people lose interest. Rugby Australia needs an independent outsider with relevant experience to facilitate centralization. For the record I’ll happily be proven completely wrong. Rant over. (it must be monday) ????
