I read last year that he would bring different skills than Lenui and that is starting to show – low mistake rate, relentless tackling, and while his runs aren’t in Leniu’s league they are still strong.

'Duty to bend' debate over Walsh hit overshadows 'absolute genius' Cleary torturing Broncos in statement Panthers win

Apart from the obvious masterclass by Cleary, young Liam Henry had a strong game, as did Lindsay Smith. The unfashionable Eisenhuff played well. I’m starting to think Ivan Cleary knows more about football than me 😊

Mitch Kenny is the epitome of what you are describing. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him make a dart from dummy half, but he distributes extremely well.

He doesn’t just defend. He hits like an Exocet missile and often plays for 80 minutes.

The evolution of the hooker in rugby league taking a backward step - creativity drops as workload increases

He was a great, wholehearted winger at his peak, but was lucky to be picked up by Souths after the Panthers let him go.

…. and I go ….. and I kind of just ….. I’m like …. He goes — and I’m like!
When did fully grown Australian men start talking like 13 year old Californian school girls?

I think this was probably the shortest sentence possible to still show the NRL are serious. I have some sympathy for Lenui. I’m not sure if he’s very bright and he looked really stressed before the game. I’m not excusing his racist slur, it is disgusting, just feel some compassion for him.

It was seriously dumb of Lenui to accept an interview and seriously stupid by the Roosters media managers to let it happen.

‘Fun and games, banter’: Leniu response to racial allegation beggars belief as ‘heat of the battle’ mentality harms NRL yet again

So Spencer, how do you feel your move to the Roosters is going so far?

‘Fun and games, banter’: Leniu response to racial allegation beggars belief as ‘heat of the battle’ mentality harms NRL yet again

Yes. I fulsome apology would mitigate the situation. I’d say Lenui is in a world of trouble, not just because of this, but in dealing with this away from his childhood club.

Thank you. It seems this was quite a success then if raising awareness and creating a buzz was the objective.

NRL News: Walker confirmed fit for Vegas opener, 'biggest fan day ever' as crowds welcome players

Apparently the end game is to enter the American online gambling market. I am not sure how that benefits the NRL. Perhaps it means it is carried by cable and that is the extra revenue. Does anyone know the strategy here?

I never comment about refs. But I’ll make an exception because this is disgusting.

'Lying is a sin': To'o takes aim at Wardle, referee 'making assumptions' with contentious try as Wigan upset Panthers

Excited to watch a game I previously didn’t care much about. Very interested to see young Cole at 6.

'Still hurts': Cleary out for world-beating 'redemption' with Panthers

I am looking forward to the game very much. Of particular interest is young Cole at 6 and Henry in the reserves, the return of May, and seeing if my hunch that Luke Garner will have benefited from the exposure to Penriths systems is correct.

The NRL is sleeping on the World Club Challenge - it could be one of their most profitable products

It was a cultural mistake as well as a footballing one I think. Fancy having Burgess walk out over a culture issue.

Debate is over: Rabbitohs should regret Reynolds roster clanger as Broncos half gets last laugh with contract extension

Yes, it was a double whammy. Give the Broncos the old head needed to stabilise potentially brilliant youngsters, and rob Souths of an incredibly important guiding hand.
It also felt ‘off’ to me.

What a shame. He’s an extraordinary talent. Best to fix it for the long term though.

One of his tries might have been one of the greatest ever scored in a Tigers v Manly. It was an aerial extravaganza.

Yes, so much for ‘possession based rugby is dead’. They do defend though and their tackle technique is mostly faultless.

Six Nations 2024: 'Marseille massacre!' - solid Ireland crush 14-man France in series opener

I watched MacCarthy, a 6 foot 5 inch giant, in the tackle. He crouched so low that a head clash was impossible. The same technique with Doris and Beirne. They must train for that relentlessly.

Six Nations 2024: 'Marseille massacre!' - solid Ireland crush 14-man France in series opener

He rose to about 30 minutes a game I think. I know because I was always frustrated he didn’t play more. Panthers clearly trained him for a specific purpose to bend the line late in the first half and starting the second, and he was incredible at that job.

How he goes over a longer appearance or as a starter will be very interesting. He is still only 23 so there is so much potential for Easts to craft his game.

Leniu v Jared: The young tyro wants to take on the old warrior, but who is actually top dog at Roosters?

I’d argue that in regards the lack of big men up front, Penrith are also not huge. With the loss of Lenui that is compounded. So that may be a strategy the Dogs are purposely following with the Panthers connection of Ciraldo and Gould.

Kurt, Connor, Jaeman, Drew and Blake: Will the Bulldogs be jacks of all trades but masters of none?

If they can only survive until Suaalii arrives in the national team and Melbourne can rise on the enormous national tide of support for rugby.
