Absolutely Chucka. Couldn’t believe that he was chosen over Watto. VERY disappointing. Smith too must surely be close to being dropped.

'It’s been a good year, but they’re not ready': Why the Bombers won't play finals

Excellent analysis Justin. I think the following factors have also hit this young group hard. Not having the senior players at a time when the youngsters were clearly starting to tire was a BIG problem imo. Walla is clearly playing injured; has been on the end of some big hits in recent weeks. Hub life is a big challenge for a young list away from home. Perkins, Cox, & Reid had ZERO game time last season. Negatives: Smith needs to go imo. Cheap shots behind play; disgraceful giving away 50 metre penalties, & caught out for pace. Our forward structure struggles with Hooker now looking cooked. A fantastic servant, but maybe better in a developmental role next year including mentoring in the Magoos. Needs: a strong bodied mid fielder/utility to help shore up this backline. A clever pacy forward wouldn’t hurt either. The positive are that the players clearly understand and enjoy what Truck & the coaching staff are aiming for. Surely now time to give a long run for players like Watto, Guelfi, Clarke, & Hird. Last days for Zaka & Smith imo.

Congratulations Skye. Your brothers will be looking down with massive pride. Keep the dream going; all of Australia is backing you!

Skye Nicolson boxes at Olympics 29 years after her late brother, sends beautiful message to dad

Should get at least a week for the charge on Wilson. Dangerous play and had plenty of time to pull out. The elbow at least another week. Great player but plenty of examples of his hot head. BUT this is the AFL and will probably get a ‘severe reprimand’ & a token fine AGAIN.

'On the angry pills': Could Buddy cop a week for this incident?

I agree Chucka & Windrince. Clearly not getting over the ground well, and is NOT the future of the EFC. Anyone who knocked Snells game on Friday night has got to be kidding themselves. As usual played his guts out. One of the top tacklers in the AFL.

Your club's underrated performer: Round 16

It’s a hard call, but the reality is we are not a long way ahead of where we were last year. However, the injury toll this year to key hard bodied players has hurt us hard. In a normal season, you would the bigger more experienced players would have enabled us to do some rotations of the young blokes to freshen them up. Not having this luxury has hurt us big time. We still clearly need some elite skills in mid field. Maybe Luke Dunstan, but not at ridiculous prices. I tend to agree that we build a dynasty by careful selections, and take the time to build these young blokes. The results aren’t going to happen right away, but in 2-3 years there will be a very solid and exciting group who are absolutely committed to each other and improvement.

The four off-season moves Essendon must make

Your name says it all. It’s a bad look for youngsters looking up to their role models.

Jack Riewoldt had a bit to say to the umps after the Tigers' shock loss

The hype is there in bucketloads in W.A. Hard to find ANY mention of teams outside of W.A. Works both ways. I agree totally re Darcy though, and Fyfe is an out and out champion, as is Mundy.

Are we overhyping the Bombers in 2021?

Fair comment Chucka. I suspect that things will improve with Snells back. His forward line pressure this year was fantastic before injury. We still need an elite level forward imo. I think the backline will improve as we get games into Reid & others.

Are we overhyping the Bombers in 2021?

Absolutely agree Rowdy. His off the ball attack on Barry Cable, plus the assault on the Geelong player (can’t remember the players name) were cowardly and despicable acts, regardless of his brilliance. That’s what makes it even sadder. SO unnecessary.

The best twelve Australian rules players I have seen in 50 years watching the game

Not to mention Hind. LOVES the club.

Essendon Round 14 review

Fair call in the main Chucka. I DO think that we’re missing Snelling’s tackling pressure a LOT. I expect that Walla will be freed up to display his absolute best, and the whole forward line more cohesive with Snelling back. Stewart’s game was terrific to see, but I though Hind & Jones were equal BOG, just based on their gut busting run, carry, and marking power. I think there’s still room for Hooker too. He adds a measure of calmness and maturity for these young blokes.

Essendon Round 14 review

I wonder whether these same commentators say anything about blatant free kicks given away and NOT paid against the darlings of the umpires. Sniper Selwood at it again, and the same with Greene, but a feather slap on the wrist! Don’t get me started about Munford and how he continues to be uncited!Q

"He was pushed out of Hobart!" Commentators horrified as the most obvious free of the year isn't paid

Great call Chucka. Loving how the club are giving Franga space and time. Get well big feller; we love watching you play but your health must come first.

Essen-Done: Zach Merrett signs mega deal to stay with the Bombers

Fair comments. I would also like to see Zaka taking on a mentoring role in the Magoos, just like Buddha did to great effect. We need to see what our young blokes are capable of, and get game time into them, to build for the future. I also agree that we need more hard bodied types to cope with the power sides, & to help protect the lighter bodied young blokes. Sheeds built premiership sides around these types of players. I think the coaching and recruiting panel have done a sterling job in the circumstances, but now we need to concentrate on getting the game plan right, and for EVERY great team that does take time. I just hope our supporters understand that and show some patience. Imo we’re on the right road, and the culture seems outstanding. Congrats also to the Board who seem to be making great decisions that help rebuild this mighty club.

Essendon Bombers mid-season review

Why would he want to go to a club going backwards!

Darcy Parish has arrived and the AFL is taking notice

Ridiculous comment. Essendon had run out of players, with two on the bench before 3/4 time, and clearly ran out of legs. Credit to Richmond; they played well, but it wasn’t the only factor.

Five talking points from AFL Round 12

Notice you haven’t mentioned the blatant Reiwoldt incorrect disposal, or the free kick against Perkins with two players all over his back, (like Grimes no prior opportunity) & the first holding the ball I can remember of the whole game, nor the mark not paid to Waterman which 99 times out of 100 would be. The lack of consistency is so frustrating, and ruining our great game.

"We need to demand better": Umps blasted for controversial holding the ball misses

The other aspect of Nick Hind is the respect he is held in. He’s a ripper bloke and an absolute clubman, the sort of player that bleeds black and red. I have always rated him highly watching him in the Magoos, so rapt he’s back. Self belief is a HUGE bonus, and if these blokes can give Richmond the fright of their lives it sets up the second half of the season beautifully after a well needed break.

Essendon Round 11 review

Disagree re Woosha’s involvement. At the end of the day he was senior coach. Easy to spot the difference in the whole side. Players are on side and understand what their role is. Parish was clearly played out of position last year, as per Jutsie’s comments. Blind Freddy would have won a premiership at the Weagles in 2007.

Six talking points from AFL Round 11

Lloydy is one of very few who is worth listening to imo. I agree re Cox; week after week he aserts himself. Elite kicking skills, and just as skilled right OR left foot, plus his ground play is just as strong as his aerial skills (only 201 cms tall)!

The yet-to-be-nominated Bomber Matthew Lloyd thinks is a lock for the Rising Star award

Liam, I really hope that that young persons parent or rellie sits down with them and explains why that abuse is totally unacceptable and abhorrent. We still have a LONG way to go, but it was fantastic to finally see all the sporting codes work together to celebrate indigenous round. Some absolutely magical performances too. Dons may well have a letdown against Richmond, but the way they are playing anything could happen. Still got some very capable players to return too. They remind me SO much of the emerging baby Bombers in the early 80’s. Finally they haven’t taken short cuts, but built from the ground up. Much more effective in creating a dynasty and strong culture imo.

Six talking points from AFL Round 11

Very very happy to be wrong. This side is building something very special imo. Reminds me SO much of the baby Bombers. Remember that there’s heaps of depth when you look at who is still out, including the very highly rated Zac Reid.

Round 10 forecast

AND Cox back for Jonesy. Give him a rest before the Weagles.

Essendon Round 9 review

Loving the way that backline is coming together so well, particularly Francis, Riddles, LaVerde, Redman & Hind. Stewart is getting there-give him time. McGraths spearing pass out of the centre to Jones early in the first quarter was an absolute belter. Hugely underrated imo. Would like to see Watto in for Smith. Going really well, and his grunt work out of the centre in the Magoos would be very helpful against Cunnington. Ambrose in for Hooker too makes sense. A real danger game this. Roos always put up a real fight against our lads.
