He could have played some tests last year.

REACTION: 'Masterclass,' 'perfect game plan, perfectly executed' - Cheika sticks the boot into bewildered Wallabies

You don’t know what you are talking about mate. That game was lost at 10 and 15.

White is world class. A 9 cannot do everything himself.

Don’t agree mate. Aus needs to scrap the OS player rules so there is depth. Eg Skelton, Arnold, Latu, Phipps, Rona etc not immediately eligible so they get Arnold in late after he’s sat on the beach for two months not training… That is down to Rennie as he could have had the rules scrapped when he came in but supported them.

Then it’s mainly team selection and player development. Eg today goes with JOC over Noah and Edmed on the bench to develop him. Similar story at front row. Pone should have been blooded a year ago. Then the mid-use of Hodge. His boot is such an asset that he needs to start.

Rennie doesn’t know what he is doing.

We have the players.

REACTION: 'Masterclass,' 'perfect game plan, perfectly executed' - Cheika sticks the boot into bewildered Wallabies

It’s the player depth due to not scrapping the stupid OS player rules like SA has done and poor coaching. We have the players to be top 3.

The game plan he played against wasn’t kick and pressure so different kettle of fish. Hodge had a bad game yes but is still a better 15 than him and Wright doesn’t have the excuse of having to play 4 different positions like Hodge has had to. If Rennie stops moving him around Hodge could settle in and has played well at 15 in pressure games.

Wright is fine at wing but not 15.

Arnold and Skelton are the two best locks for Aus. Arnold had the best lineout percentage in France and Skelton tore teams apart in the Heineken, which is the best club comp in the world. Arnold had better stats than Philip when Philip was in France.

Issue is Rennie has not included them in the overall planning and doesn’t use them properly. Eg Arnold’s season ended months ago in France and he’s been drinking beers at the beach. Unfair to think he is going to play well. The. had Skelton start off the bench for England games last year. He’s not an impact player like a Malcolm Marx his skill is grinding teams down at ruck and maul and some nice offloads. Fabien Galthié Said it was bizarre that he was not playing for wallabies.

Back at you. You point to coaching but brumbies have been the best Aussie team for years. That is coaching. Rennie decides on the backs mate, that is where the game was lost – 10 and 15. You don’t know what you are talking about.

REACTION: 'Masterclass,' 'perfect game plan, perfectly executed' - Cheika sticks the boot into bewildered Wallabies

Was 10 and 15 in the main.

REACTION: 'Masterclass,' 'perfect game plan, perfectly executed' - Cheika sticks the boot into bewildered Wallabies

Rubbish. Loss was down to poor team selection not coaching of the forwards. Ie OConnor at 10, Wright at 15 – Noah and Hodge there. The forward pack should be slipper, Latu (given injuries), Thor, Skelton, Arnold, Samu at open side, Leota at blind and Valentini at 8 with reserves being Philip, Rose, Pone etc. That is a serious pack that can match even SA. Rennie has the ability to have the OS player rules scrapped and needs to as there just isn’t enough depth.

REACTION: 'Masterclass,' 'perfect game plan, perfectly executed' - Cheika sticks the boot into bewildered Wallabies

That’s not the problem. The problem is 10 and 15 and they have good options there in Noah and Hodge that were not used. Skelton and Arnold should start and Swain should not be in the squad. Would rotate Simone and Samu in as part of proper player management programme.

REACTION: 'Masterclass,' 'perfect game plan, perfectly executed' - Cheika sticks the boot into bewildered Wallabies

Different wallabies team selected by Rennie though at key positions. He doesn’t know what he is doing.

REACTION: 'Masterclass,' 'perfect game plan, perfectly executed' - Cheika sticks the boot into bewildered Wallabies

Garbage. Forwards are well coached. Just that Rennie has not made the right team selections. Skelton and Arnold should start. Pone should have been blooded a year ago. Latu should be in the squad.

He’s got the power to scrap OS player rules and needs to. There is just not enough depth.

REACTION: 'Masterclass,' 'perfect game plan, perfectly executed' - Cheika sticks the boot into bewildered Wallabies

Out coached mate. Rennie is a joke. The effort was there from the players till last 10 but very hard to win a game when you select players out of position in key positions and don’t coach to adapt. Every team should know the basics of replying to kick chase and rush D game as SA and England use it.

Rennie should have said that loss is on me.

REACTION: 'Masterclass,' 'perfect game plan, perfectly executed' - Cheika sticks the boot into bewildered Wallabies

Wrong focus mate. White is world class. JOC is not a 10 and should not be in the squad. You start Noah, have your man EdMed on the bench and Hodge at 15. Wright stays on the wing to provide competition to JP.

Today was about poor kicking from Aus in all areas – even for touch -, poor fullback and JP having a bad game positionally. Fix that very easily with those changes. Then you don’t have as many frustrating penalties.

Rennie is just not a very good coach. International rugby coaching is different from club rugby. It’s much more about team selection, blooding players to ensure depth and pathways with other coaches to make sure players are developed properly. Rennie is terrible at those key tasks. He’s fine at club level which is much more about player rotation, junior pathways, salary cap management etc.

What like Brasil…

Life after Cooper: Wallabies' 2024 gameplan development starts now

Disagree mate. You don’t get tempo without winning the breakdown. You don’t win the breakdown without physicality. Look at Skelton v Leinster – most of the Irish team – for Sarries and La Rochelle this year in the Heineken and past years. He ground them down and dominated. Very much international level and style. He also tears apart rolling mauls.

Rodda etc. simply aren’t as big/powerful as Skelton or the SA locks. Eg Farrell would not have stopped Skelton / Etzebeth on the line like he did with Rodda.

SA will dominate the breakdown and set-piece against last weeks team. You need to bully them back to win.

Life after Cooper: Wallabies' 2024 gameplan development starts now

Agree. Or have him permanent 15. His kicking game alone gives them field position and takes the stress off the team. Hard to think of any other player in world rugby with a bigger boot.

Life after Cooper: Wallabies' 2024 gameplan development starts now

OS player rules should be scrapped completely and move the the requirement to having committed to x seasons for a state team eg 4. Then develop good relationships with European and Japanese clubs to facilitate availability.

Standard of coaching in Aus is behind that of European clubs and players like Skelton have developed in leaps and bounds since being coached by better quality coaches like Mcacall at Sarries and OGara at La Rochelle.

Game is too small in Australia to be so insular.

SA has improved materially by scrapping them and all the poorer soccer nations scrapped those types of restrictions years ago and they have performed well.

Life after Cooper: Wallabies' 2024 gameplan development starts now

Problem is you need to give the backups game time. Eg last 20 mins of a game. Unfair to just put them in cold and expect them to shine.

The European games and games like Argentina should be used for that but Rennie hasn’t done it.

He needs to get the OS player rules scrapped so as to increase their win percentage and develop players with less pressure on winning.

Life after Cooper: Wallabies' 2024 gameplan development starts now

Need to move on from OConnor. On his day he is good but he has had a long career and injuries catching up with him. Rennie needs to blood another 10 now with Noah being the starter and bring on second choice for last 10-20 for a few games. Probably Edmed.

Rennies lack of foresight and squad planning is astoundingly bad. That’s one of the main jobs of an international coach.

Life after Cooper: Wallabies' 2024 gameplan development starts now

Rennie could fix the physicality issue by starting one of the Arnold brothers, Skelton and bringing in Pone. Pone much better ball runner than Gibbon for example and similar skills at scrum time. Also bring in Latu for some niggle but coach him to not give as many penalties away.

Life after Cooper: Wallabies' 2024 gameplan development starts now

Rennie has done a very poor job developing depth in the squad and game plan. We are weak at 10, 12 (without Kerevi), lock and front row save for Toupou and perhaps Slipper.

Games against Argentina should be used to blood new players so that we have more options in those key positions. Eg it is bizarre that Pone has not been blooded at this stage given how good a ball runner he is and given that the other options are not great scrummagers either, being the main criticism of him.

Also at lock Swain has shown he lacks the physicality and cool head to be in the team when you have guys like Loto, Hosea, the Arnold brothers, Skelton etc. in those positions. Better to have Swain sit out the tour and be asked to put on 5-10kg of good mass in the off season.

He’s also poorly coached Toupou. Toupou should be having 20 carries a game but he rarely gets the ball. White should be coached to look for him with the back row supporting him. He should be coached to take contact and set up rather than look for trick passes.

Similarly, Hodges boot should guarantee him starting at 15 but he has not been supported.

At 10, Noah plays well with Kerevi’s support but has done less well when paired with the erratic Paisami. Better to move on from Paisami at 12 given how strong the ranks are at centre. Want a bigger more powerful ball runner there that can take contact when there is rush defence.

Much easier to do all of this if he has RA scrap the counterproductive OS player restrictions and adopt the SA approach. Otherwise the depth of players is too shallow and they will not beat SA, eg look at the size and physicality parity if you start pone, Skelton, one of the Arnold’s vs swain, Philip and AA. The later just isn’t going to get it done.

Life after Cooper: Wallabies' 2024 gameplan development starts now

Most of the wallabies woes are self inflicted and due to poor managerial decisions and coaching. Would do much better with a coach whose style is more suited to the international game like OGara, McCall, Borthwick and scarp the OS player rules as they don’t have the depth to beat the top teams. Hearing that RA are talking to Jones is another example of their stupidity. Add that to taking rugby off free to air. OS player rules etc. Management of RA need to be fired.

If you play TT, Pone, Poreki, Skelton, Arnold and current back 3 you have a more dominant pack. Pone issues at scrum time but put Skelton behind him and it helps a lot like he does at La Rochelle. And the scrum was poor with AAA, Sio etc in Europe so better to get his running game going. Keep on reading bizarre comments on here about Skelton being slow etc. but he tore Leinster apart last two seasons in the Heineken and did the same for Sarries. Also crazy suggestion to use him as an impact player when his main skills are maul defence and grinding oppositions down at ruck time.

TT should be coached to do 20 runs and 20 tackles a game and take the ball into contact and the 9 should look to him more. Then Hooper/Valentini/Samu next up and so on. Rennie has allowed too much indiscipline. It’s just plain poor coaching. Genge was the same two seasons ago but Borthwick has sorted him out at Leicester.

Rennie has also failed to develop guys like Hodge who is a 15. His kicking game is enough to make him a starter and with a better approach to coaching, ie based on field position, he would have been more valued instead of being shipped about.

Scrapping OS player rules also allows players to benefit from higher quality coaching like Skelton, White, Phipps and Rona did, for example.

What a self-inflicted mess.

Coach's Corner: Captains and coaches heading for the exit?

This question has been asked and answered in the soccer world and by SA. Rassie on record stating scrapping OS player restrictions is what turned them around and it takes I think he said 30m – not sure what currency – saved by RSA is used to pour back into SA domestic comp.

The smaller / poorer soccer nations all let their best players play OS too.

Rugby Australia is full of jokers who should be fired for mismanagement. First taking rugby solely onto sky with no free to air so league could counteract the 90s success of Union and it also excluded poorer families that supply great talent to league. Secondly not investing in grass roots. They should have been pumping the money into local facilities and sponsorships. The quality of athlete available to league and AFL is therefore much higher.

If they were smart they would make super a feeder league and form good relationships with OS clubs and standardise terms with them to ensure availability for Wallabies. Then you use the money not spent on them for development. Clear templates already exist.

Should the Giteau law be tweaked again?
