Where did Leniu learn that behaviour, though, LP? You sidestepped that, didn’t you? That behaviour was sanctioned at the Panthers with their win at any cost, laugh in a player’s face and get under their skin style of Ivan Cleary influenced behaviour.

They call it ‘swagger’ but really they are just D***heads.

Souths have no kicking game, especially no long kicking game, and no organiser in their halves. The biggest mistake the club has ever made was forcing Adam Reynolds out of Redfern. Reynolds is exactly the sort of player Cody Walker thrives on playing outside of. At the very least, when Latrell is ON, Walker can lift his game with that outside threat from Latrell. Ilias offers NOTHING!

Jye Gray looks like a real player but stands in size somewhere between Preston Campbell and Matt Bowen (Gray: 170 cm, 77 kg), and I’m not sure how he will handle the heavy traffic defending in Souths front line defence. His last minute kick for touch in the Charity Shield game showed he has a long kicking game, and he would definitely offer more to Souths, and Walker, than the Greek Trojan Horse, Lachlan Ilias.

Jack Wighton would best serve Souths, playing in the centres. But he would still be a noticeable improvement on Ilias regardless.

Personally, given the size and weight disparity between the players and the fact it was not dangerous, I have no problem with that.

But, what would have been the result I wonder, not to mention the outcry on this forum, if Latrell Mitchell had been charged for this offence instead of ‘NRL poster boy’ Reece Walsh? How many ‘NRL neutrals’ would be baying for a lengthy suspension for Latrell?

NRL Round 1 talking points: That was great, let’s try it again!

“How does it change if the victims are told to simply ignore it?”

The answer, I’m sure you are aware of, is… it doesn’t!

“Sorry but it is still simple name calling and is easily ignored.”

As someone, like you, who is non-indigenous, I can understand why it is impossible for us to put ourselves in the shoes of someone who constantly has to feel persecuted and singled out just because of the colour of their skin. Surely, in 2024 as a society, we have progressed beyond such Neanderthal concepts?

I don’t go into all this ‘white privilege’ woke nonsense, especially having listened to plenty of black conservatives in the US who decry these false claims that are a manipulation of statistics, not supported by facts and are always driven by a woke agenda and a liberal hivemind ideology.

However, there are limits, and you don’t need a Mensa IQ to work out that Spencer Leniu crossed a line that should never be crossed.

100% 👍

Growing up in Redfern in the 70’s and living there until the mid 80’s if you tried that BS on an indigenous person back in the day, you would get your ass handed to you, and rightly so.

Racial vilification is beyond the pale (outside the limits of acceptable behaviour or judgement). The same goes for vilifying someone for their s3xual preference.

Bagging the heck out of Roosters and Panthers supporters is perfectly fine though and should be actively encouraged. 😂

You are a class act and consistent with your views as always, Dutski.

Frankly, if Leniu was playing for Souths, then I would think that was punishment enough without invoking the end of the Rabbitohs season. 😛

I agree, players should be punted from the game if these allegations have sufficient proof or witnesses to support the claim. Often there are a handful of players from both teams who would be in a position to verify these claims.

It was a play that made regular dumb look smart! Firstly, there is NO excuse for it. But then there was also no need for it, where the only likely result was to tarnish a win for the Roosters if it didn’t first result in firing up the Broncos to finish over the top of the chooks.

At the end of the day, Leniu owed the club, the fans and his teammates more than just winding back the clock and pretending he was a Panthers’ player who could get away with murder without repercussions.

It seems that only the ‘NRL Triumvirate Plus One’ (including the Broncos if Reece Walsh gets off) are granted a free pass on these occasions. Can you imagine the outcry in the comments section if Latrell Mitchell had been guilty of either of these offences (Leniu/Walsh)? Admittedly, a racial vilification charge against Latrell would be hard to imagine. But you get my point.

Why is it that across each of the stories concerning the round 1 Las Vegas games, I have seen no mention or discussion of the Reece Walsh shoulder charge and debate about whether or not it deserves a suspension?

I ask this question… what would the comments have looked like if Latrell Mitchell had been the player charged with a shoulder charge?

I take pride in the fact that my mind is incapable of being changed! 😂 😂 😂

'NRL better deal with this s--t', says Latrell: Mam accuses Leniu of 'monkey' racial slur as Roosters outmuscle Broncos

Is that the same as having your mind changed for you? Remember George Orwells’ dystopian ‘1984’ and “The Ministry of Truth’?

'NRL better deal with this s--t', says Latrell: Mam accuses Leniu of 'monkey' racial slur as Roosters outmuscle Broncos

Yeah, but his back was half facing towards the try line, so backwards out of the hands = forward pass! Don’t let the NRL Triumvirate’s ‘The Ministry of Truth’ (1984) sway you, Ben. You were right the first time.

Everything that is wrong with the game is Penrith’s fault… or Uncle Nick’s! 😛

From the first angle shown in the broadcast, I first thought it was dubious… but then I put on my Roosters tri-coloured goggles, and it looked fine to me. 😂

You are too used to QLD getting away with those passes in Origin to win games, Red Rob. 😂

The pass was at least a metre forward when you take into account the camera angle.

'NRL better deal with this s--t', says Latrell: Mam accuses Leniu of 'monkey' racial slur as Roosters outmuscle Broncos

Thank you! NRL neutrals, generally speaking, have been conditioned to let rough calls favouring _NRL Triumvirate_ teams slide. Of course, the ball was forward. It looked more like an NFL pass in that respect.

Proof, you can take the boy out of Penrith, but you can’t take Penrith out of the boy. The dill should be looking at a 12-week suspension minimum to send a message to the rest of the NRL on what will happen going forward if this happens again.

These tactics may have been embraced by the Panthers as ‘gamesmanship’, to get under their opponent’s skin, but I feel that Trent Robinson has considerably more scruples and a better moral compass than ‘win at any cost’ Ivan Cleary.

Wighton, Graham (BOTH rep players), Munro and Duncan (future rep players) compared to 3 duds. Manly were better off without that driftwood, as it turned out.

Yet Kenner was the first and last Try scorer yesterday. Go figure! Milne is ill-disciplined, slow, and the game moves too fast for him. He continually comes up with the wrong defensive reads and bombs at least 4 times more tries than he scores.

Milne and Kennar both belong in NSW Cup. It’s time to give younger players like Tyrone Munro, Leon Te Hau and even 28-year-old Jacob Gagai a go instead. I would also hook Ilias and play Jye Gray in the halves, or play him at FB and move Latrell to left centre. At least, Gray has shown he can kick a ball 50 metres. Neither Walker or Ilias seem capable of that.

When Souths lost Adam Reynolds, they went from having one of the top 2 kicking games in the NRL to being near the bottom with Ilias and Walker. Souths are running uphill and trying to make up the metres without a decent long range kicking game, and that needs to be addressed as a priority.

Blame Nathan Tinkler, club owner at the time, for failing to meet his commitments to pay his players. Even Wayne said at the time, “No one works for nothing. Everyone has the right to get paid”, or words to that effect. Effectively, the Knights players went on strike as they were the ONLY players in the NRL not getting paid and yet were still expected to play.

Most people taking a swipe at Bennett’s lack of success at the Knights forget the real reason that undermined Bennett’s record of success during this period.

Souths conceding 36 points in their opening game where head coach Demetriou is in charge of the defence speaks volumes about Demetriou as a coach.

Souths were far better under Wayne Bennett.

If JD is going to keep selecting Ilias at HB instead of either Hawkins or Jye Gray and Host over Tallis Duncan and leave Latrell at FB to play 40 mins a game perhaps he should.
