Garmin-Sharp go through the final check in 4th, 8 seconds down on Rabobank. The large time gaps that many were expecting have not eventuated. If anything, this race is going to be mighty close, with BMC, Liquigas, Rabobank, Omega Pharma-Quick Step, RadioShack-Nissan and Orica-GreenEDGE all around the mark.

Saxo-TInkoff go 4th fastest, 43.56 seconds behind Liquigas-Cannondale. The men in lime green must have powered over the last 15km of the course.

RadioShack-Nissan are 4th at the final check, 5 seconds down. Meanwhile, Sky have had a terrible start. They’re well down in 10th spot at the second time check and don’t look like they’ll challenge.

Vacansoleil put in a solid performance. 43 seconds behind Liquigas at the finish in 3rd so far. 49.1km/h average speed. Not sure it will hold up for long as there are some seriously quick teams coming through.

Rabobank go through the third check fastest! They’ve knocked off Liquigas by 2 seconds and are putting in a great ride in front of their home crowd!

Astana finish second but over 40 seconds down. Liquigas’ average speed was actually 49.7km/h, so nearly 50km/h on this course is crazy.

FDJ-BigMat have put in a slightly disappointing performance today. I was expecting some bigger things from them. They finish 6th fastest, just in front of MTN-Qhubeka. Team Sky about to roll away from the start.
Rusvelo have done a great job in taking the best time at the finish, 12.2 seconds clear of Ag2r.

Lotto Belisol only have 4 riders left at the 3rd check, which is still about 15km from the finish. They’re going to have to be very careful from now on.
Orica-GreenEDGE are the penultimate team to set off. Tuft, Mouris, Meyer, Langeveld, Durbridge and Bewley are about to bring the noise.

My pick of the day, BMC Racing Team, has just rolled away from the start. They’re comprised of Phinney (USA), Van Garderen (USA), Pinotti (ITA), Gilbert (BEL), Ballan (ITA) and Quinziato (ITA). Very very strong team.
At the other end of the course, Ag2r La Mondiale have gone fastest at the finish, knocking off the Carrots by 4 seconds.

Euskaltel-Euskadi set the fastest time at the finish, 39 seconds clear of Itera-Katusha. A surprisingly strong TT performance by the bleeding carrots.

Just three teams left to start now: BMC, Orica-GreenEDGE and Sky. Its going to take a time of sub-65 minutes to win this race I think.

Liquigas-Cannondale come through the second check in the lead. They’re blowing the field away at the moment.
Dave Harmon has been explaining how the TTT World Champs will be recognised next year. There is no distinctive jersey. Instead, the winners will get medals, the team will get a trophy and the anthem played will be that of the country where the team is registered. A distinctive symbol will be worn on ALL kit for each rider who wins the TTT championship but only if they ride for the team again next year, otherwise they won’t be able to wear it.
No symbol design has been seen, which is a bit strange. Also, Tony Martin will not be wearing the World Champion stripes that he earned in the ITT last year as this is classed as a separate event in which he ISN’T the World Champion. All sounds a bit convoluted don’t you think?
RadioShack-Nissan has just started their effort, whilst Rusvelo are threatening Euskaltel’s time at the 3rd check. And they’ve gone through 16 seconds quicker!

Brief history lesson: the previous iteration of the Team TIme Trial at the World Championships was an amateur event between countries. Each country had four riders. All four riders had to finish the entire 100km course. An absolutely brutal event. This reboot of the format is quite tame in comparison.
Ag2r La Mondiale lose a rider as they come through the 3rd check. They still trail Euskaltel.

Movistar get close to Liquigas but ultimately fall just under 14 seconds short at the finish, slotting into second place. Meanwhile Omega Pharma-Quick Step have blitzed through the final check more than 40 seconds in front of Rabobank, averaging 50.8km/h so far!
