Tour de France Twitter Wrap – Stage 10

Following Wiggins’ dominant performance in the time trial, I’m having two decidedly different thoughts, neither of which I completely agree with. The first is that I rather underestimated Wiggins’ abilities. I thought being the favourite for a Tour de France would be all too much for the Brit, who has shown to be a bit fragile at times. But, largely thanks to his extraordinary team I suspect, Wiggins hasn’t been overawed at all. Mind you, having riders like Chris Froome, Michael Rogers and Richie Porte at your disposal does help.

The other thought was that perhaps we’re overestimating Wiggins’ abilities. Call it professional scepticism but something doesn’t add up about Wiggins’ performance in the TT. He’s gotten so skinny and spindly that there’s virtually nothing left on him. I heard Phil Liggett say that Team Sky were struggling to find a skin suit that was tight enough on him. And to beat Fabian Cancellara by so much, when Spartacus was in terrific form, just smacks me as being a bit too extraordinary.

Anyway, I’m sure these things will come forward at some stage. On to Twitter…

Spartacus drops a bombshell on the Tour by quitting. Understandable that his wife is pregnant but still, who am I going to cheer for in the next TT?

Seems like my redheaded British ancestral brethren have been out on the road in support of Cavendish. #huzzah!

Great piece of Tour trivia supplied here by Mark Renshaw.

DZ showing off his epic new shoes #patriotism

Cadel seemed relaxed enough on the rest day to go gallivanting with @manuelquinziato and snap some photos of the region.

When Gossy’s getting in breakaways, its bad news for everyone.

Mick, I’d just be thankful that I didn’t crash on the descent of an HC mountain if I punctured, rather than whinging about waiting for a new wheel #seriously #this guy.

Team Sky taking over a café in France. Looks like what we do after SKCC crits every weekend #coffeeride

Not sure you’ll need the stats to know how hard it is, Koen!
