I too am looking forward with interest to see how Carter Gordon, Donaldson and Lynagh do this season and yes Frost & Harry Wilson are two more from that successful U20 team to watch. Pone Fa’amausili is a player i think can become a real force if he stays healthy and finds consistency.

Pleased to see McDermott do well. A good addition to this T20 squad. Remind me, is McDermott a good ODI option too?

Hazlewood, Zampa star as Aussies strangle Sri Lanka after batting collapse

Regretable play by Toluca. So often women’s football is rightfully praised for not involving the gamesmanship we too often see in the men’s game. Sadly that is not the case here. Not an example of fair play.

Mexican keeper tears ACL on edge of the box, opposition show no mercy

Each wonderful goals. Note how Oar was involved in both, scoring the first, making the great diagonal pass for Noone’s goal. Lovely goals they each were but I think I like Noone’s the best, the technique required to strike the ball like that is just wonderful.

Did Macarthur score the two best goals of the A-League season in one night?

We better get used to this, especially as Omicron moves through New Zealand. Unfortunately this won’t be the only match postponed because of positive Covid tests. The good news is Omicron is not as strong as past Covid strains, especially once you are fully vaxxed.

Great piece Jim and a good kickoff for the upcoming season. I am really curious to see Mahe Vailanu. As a few others noted, if he improves his set piece plays then he can be a very interetsing addition to the Waratahs. Did Coleman bring over any other players from LA Giltinis beside Vailanu?

I’m also hoping Vunivalu stays healthy, he was one of the most exciting players to watch in RL, let’s see what he can with the Reds if he gets an extended period of play. Ainstee is another one to watch, hopefully by bulking up he has not lost his pace and flexibility.

Not much room for error anymore. I agree with the author about the probable starting XI tonight. Well, with one exception as Grem says, with Behich unable to fly in, then King plays. Hopefully a chance for him to show his youthful energy down the left side. Let’s see what this team is made of.

Who starts for the Socceroos in tonight's must-win World Cup Qualifier?

How does Shaun Evans confuse “Vamos” which means, “Let’s go” with ” F*** off?” 😔

Adelaide United have had an unlucky start to the season. They haven’t played bad, but they can’t seem to win.

Victory, Reds share spoils after dramatic finish in Melbourne

Well the point of my post was not to determine whether the SPL or A League is producing more candidates for the English Premier League. Frankly I don’t care about that and the English Premier League is not the ultimate barometer. My point about preferring Australian players in places like Denmark, Belgium or Netherlands is in those leagues I believe Australian players can better develop their technical ability. I want current or prospective Socceroos improving their technical ability and playing in leagues which encourage technical play.

Hearts is hopefully the first step on a long European career for Nathaniel Atkinson

I’m with Saffi, I’d prefer players in better technical leagues like in Denmark, Belgium or the Netherlands than in Scotland but let’s be honest, it is the language which helps drive players to Scotland. I think Atkinson is a promising player but would have preferred he remain in the A League through the end of this season and then move to Europe during the Northern Hemisphere summer rather than mid season.

You can’t help but feel sympathy for Perth Glory. You also know if this were the Eagles or Dockers, the WA government would work out a deal to bring the players home for Christmas.

COVID cases to keep hitting A-League Men: Aloisi

Warne has a commentating job because Fox know he sets people off. That’s all he’s there for, just to stir things up with controversial comments. And it keeps people tuned in to hear “what else will he say?”

This was a simple case of a higher level team looking past their opponents. APIA played great in taking that 2 goal lead, Romero was excellent buzzing all over the pitch in attack. I didn’t know he was US born. And Diaz’ goal was very astute. Not sure what Margush was doing so far off his line there but Diaz spotted it and Margush got embarrassed. It is results like this what the FFA Cup needs, always good to have a giant killer in the last 8. Would be nice to have 1 or 2 more. Are Avondale or Gold Coast Knights up for it?

APIA screamer knocks Wanderers out of FFA Cup

Intelligent move by Diaz spotting Margush so far off his line. What was the keeper thinking there? Excellent placement by Diaz. Damn good game by Romero for APIA too.

WS Wanderers stunned by NPL giant-killers' wonder goal in FFA Cup boilover

Just superb from New Zealand. What a calm, cool group this is. getting Buttler out early obviously helped but when Guptill and Williamson were dismissed early and seeing the Black caps struggle to score runs, it looked like England were in control. But Neesham got them going and turned the tide and then Mitchell provided his heroics. Absolutely wonderful. I’ll be hoping for a Trans-tasman Final now.

Black Caps grab sweet revenge over England to reach T20 World Cup final

Why aren’t Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane being considered to host the next window’s home matches?

'We're here to make history': Socceroos big guns fire as World Cup campaign off to a flyer

Another finals, another Lions early exit. Their record in the finals in recent seasons has been dismal. Certainly not what you’d expect from the talent they have. Good point about the Bulldogs midfield depth, they are playing now more like the team who were so good in the 1st half of the season. But Port Adelaide next week will be even more difficult of an exam.

'A sweet victory, but at what cost?': Talking points from the Bulldogs-Lions epic

Once Marsh was dismissed Australia had no answer for the bowling of McCoy and Walsh Jr. Looked to be an attainable target but Obed McCoy in particular was very impressive.

Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay. United States all of these countries determine their league champion through a finals or playoff. It works for them and this format works for Australia too.

Should the A-League keep the finals?

The Socceroos absences at both Sydney and Melbourne City are really going to hurt. Adelaide has momentum and I think will end Sydney’s reign. Melbourne City-Macarthur will go to penalties and that will be anybody’s guess. A shame these international call ups have deleted these teams, at full strength we would have had a Melbourne City-Sydney final which could have been a real corker.

The Roar's A-League expert tips and predictions: Semi finals

I’m on an international football forum with some Canadian posters who were saying Josue Duverger, the Haitian goalie who made that awful own goal is Canadian of Haitian descent! He’d made several good saves before that from Lille’s Jonathan David but as much as we’d like to say the fix was on, it wasn’t. That own goal was so comical, way too comical to be something nefarious. Instead praise Canada a team with some developing good young players- Davies, David and Larin.

Worst own goal of all-time contender as Canada thrash Haiti

Spot on Mike. So many valid points made and add me to those baffled that the Sydney derby was played at the SCG. Especially after the great atmosphere in Parramatta for their last derby in a proper football stadium.

The A-League must end its obsession with bad ideas
