The biggest issue is those changes aren’t going to happen without a big scare for the Aussies, which won’t happen until the final.
Waerea-Hargreaves, not SBW, is the Kiwis' MVP
Tamou is very lucky to even be in the squad imo.

Catch 22 – for rugby league to be strong we need a strong NRL, but to play more international games, we need to cut down the NRL season
For now, I think all we can do is focus on domestic development and ESL/NRL scholarships, not playing contracts, more just opportunities to train with the best players and coaches in the world.
Australia needs to make space for rugby league internationals
Lebanon and Canada are both unlucky to not be making an appearance at this WC. Great to see genuine competition for spots.
Lebanese rugby league continues to grow
The big FC score is what I’m after, personally. The position is really his to lose. He’s only got one more hurdle to jump, and that is really putting a stamp on any Shield innings’ he gets.
Going off early on George Bailey's Test selection
France have lost to the USA (probably the weakest squad at the Cup) 22-18 in a warm-up fixture.
Rugby League World Cup preview: France ready to rise again
Good comment, everybody seems to have the barrow they’re pushing. ‘baseball style cricket’ is a great way to put it, some of the slogs that Finch, Maxwell, etc. play in short form have be shuddering imagining them trying to do it against Steyn, Anderson, Philander and the like.

The seizure of the assets sucked. France really is only just recovering.
Toulouse need to enter SL before the French can really make an impact. This is more or less the Catalans Dragon team against some very strong international sides.
I hope they do well, but I think this could be another dissapointment for France. Prove me wrong boys.

Papua New Guinea should be the number one priority for expanding the game in the southern hemisphere. They absolutely love it – I heard they were lined up 3 or 4 people deep for kilometres just to see the PM’s XIII. There is an untapped market of fans and players. I love the style of play PNG brings, they love to play the game hard.
There wasn’t any major violence at the PM XII, iirc. The country certainly has issues, but sport has the power to unite a country and can assist in bringing the nation out of poverty. Mandela used Rugby Union to help South Africa, and I think rugby league can help Papua New Guinea.
Go the Kumuls!

The sun was shining and Bailey couldn’t make any hay, which is what concerns me most.

Cosgrove is the smokey, I think he’ll crack the Test side sooner rather than later.

Haha, picking players from Facebook certainly seems like how they do it sometimes. Glenn Maxwell probably got selected after how loud Brayshaw screamed about him.

Even I was shocked when I discovered just how many runs the Tasmanian’s had scored. The rhetoric around Bellrive truly sucked me in. It may not be the easiest pitch to bat on, but it’s hardly the graveyard it’s built up to be.
Going off early on George Bailey's Test selection
Agree completely. While runs are runs, ODI’s are a different prospect to true cricket.
Going off early on George Bailey's Test selection
If only selectors had the foresight to realise he should be playing every Shield match in the leadup rather than a pointless ODI series to fill up Indian coffers.

It will definitely be competetive amongst the 4-16. Tonga and Fiji have especially talented sides.
The real issue is trying to get one of them to cross over and become competetive with the big 3.
Can the Kangaroos be contained?
Tongue firmly in cheek mate. Nothing discrediting about trying to pick a side as a neutral fan.
Just who is the lesser of two evils this Sunday?
Champion player, champion bloke. Never heard a bad word said about him and probably never will.
Hopefully the Knights can send him out on a high.
Buderus may not want a fairytale but he deserves one
If only rugby league had a lot more Steve Mascord’s and a lot less Rothfields, Wilsons and other News Ltd hacks.
Help us Steve Mascord, you’re our only hope
Some punch in the forwards is definitely needed. Young Terepo and Tanginoa look very talented but a high profile back rower definitely wouldn’t go atray.
Time for Parra to send Hayne to the doghouse
The EPL does not run in isolation. Football fans also have the luxury of enjoying knockout football through competitions like the FA Cup and Champions League, which are the kind of competitions rugby league cannot duplicate due to it’s nature.
Also, the EPL doesn’t just have a ‘winner’ so to speak. There are qualification rewards for finishing in the top four and relegation for those who fall down the bottom. There is a certain intrigue that remains with the final weeks of the competition.
the NRL would have been awfully boring for everybody except Souths and Rabbitohs fans for the last month of competition.
First past the post to determine champion?
That’s an interesting take. I don’t mind that idea. Video review remains, but the referees are still the ones in charge of the decision.
Review the role of video referees
Difference is the NRL can’t afford to do that. That’s a huge loss of revenue, a huge loss of product and a huge free kick to the AFL and Rugby Union.
One day I think the NRL will go down that route but it would be suicidal to do so in 2013.
