Windies batsmen always look like walking wickets. I watched their series against England earlier this year, and they were too tentative and unwilling to come forward. Resulted in a lot of bowled and LBW dismissals. They have some decent bats who unfortunately I can’t see making a sustained and world-beating impact, e.g. Brooks, Chase and Dowrich. It will take some miracle, or a brilliant bowling performance (like against England) for them to win in NZ.

West Windies vs New Zealand: Five talking points

Guess you’re not a fan of Steve Smith then, who carries 2 bags worth of gloves and changes constantly

Indian rising star decides to change bats, promptly hits two enormous sixes to win the game

I’m even less convinced about Harris tbh, but the last time I saw him play was in the Ashes, where he and Warner were walking wickets

Green ton makes tough call even tougher

Welp, Burns fell for another duck… bowled too, haven’t seen the footage

Yeah, and just today he took 2 wickets in his 4 overs

Oh I said the same thing hahaha, yeah I didn’t see your comment. I do like the idea of Green improving his game in the short form squads, but I hope he doesn’t miss domestic games because of this.

Finch to me was like Australia trying to copy what England did with Buttler (clearly didn’t work), and then somehow England were clever enough to copy Australia by doing a Finch and picking Roy for a big series. Nice

Five key questions ahead of Australia’s ODI and T20 series against India

It’s interesting, because nowadays players are picked for test teams for their destructive white ball form. Finch, Buttler and even KL Rahul spring to mind. It’s been a while since first class form has lead to a short-form call-up, but then again, Green looks like a ridiculously special talent.

Yeah I agree, like I said I think he’s been picked to get some national team exposure and accelerate his growth. His bowling looks like it could become world class and his batting is undoubtedly very very solid, if not spectacular right now.

With regards to Pucovski, I think he was forgotten about a little until he suddenly made a double hundred, and then another one. The ODI squad was already picked before he made any of them so that’s probably why he wasn’t considered

The last time they played at Manuka, Bumrah was on debut/second game, India threw the game and Kane Richardson took a 5-fer right? Or maybe that was 2 times ago, can’t remember. It’s definitely a different side now.

From what you’ve said, I think your XI is:
Dhawan
Agarwal
Kohli
Iyer
Rahul
Hardik
Jadeja
Saini
Shami
Bumrah
Chahal

Definitely a bit light in batting there after Jadeja, it looks like 4 number 11’s. Hardik is probably good enough just to play as a batsman for the slog overs anyway, and Jadeja is a proper bowler. If Shardul Thakur makes the XI then India have serious problems with depth! But this XI should put on a good series. The way Australia bowl to Rahul and Hardik should determine the outcome I think

India vs Australia ODI series: Possible starting XI for India

The whole Rohit injury debacle has been confusing and misleading to say the least. It seems that Rohit, Ravi Shastri and the BCCI are all on different wavelengths, and there’s so much being said and done that’s contradictory, that I think nobody really knows what’s happening.

Rohit certainly didn’t need to play in the IPL, Pollard was exceptional as a captain and there were so many solid players backing up his position, yet while Rohit was initially excluded from the India squad, he continued to play. No idea what’s happening there.

In terms of his output in Australia, it would be a fantastic chance for Shaw or even Gill to barge the door down and become a regular, long-term opener. I hope they can do what Agarwal did 2 years ago and impress, to nail down the spot (although as an Aussie fan I also kinda hope they all get out cheaply). If Gill or Shaw perform well in the first 2 games, Rohit might not even get a look in.

Is Rohit Sharma serious about Test cricket?

Yeah, for me Green is a solid blocker tbh, and takes a very long while to get his innings going. That’s ok for test cricket but his strike rates in 50 and 20 over cricket have been well below par. I think having some national level ODI coaching will do him a lot of good, but he probably isn’t ready for the starting 11 yet.

I’m certainly going to be looking for a stream somewhere haha

In his last test match he was pretty poor, but he definitely played his part at Edgbaston, and should have been picked for more games in the 2015 Ashes. Would have been a handful at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge there, and maybe 60 all out wouldn’t have looked so bad

Analysing Australia’s Test cricket winners: The modern pace bowling masters

Interesting, definitely gotta follow that

Weighing incumbency in a year without Test cricket

Oh, I thought Conway was picked for the test squad too…

Will Young does deserve a call-up because he was supposed to be selected anyway, just before he was injured. But you’re right, Conway is even better. Surprised both weren’t picked, Nicholls for me is average.

For me, nothing against Cummins’ leadership skills, experience (lack thereof) or the fact that he’s a bowler, I just think he shouldn’t be captain. I’m not sure about him tactically, he might be a brilliant teammate and one of the best players in the team, but from his interviews and general demeanor I think he can be a bit naive and short of ideas when it comes to the game. He reminds me a bit of Boxer from Animal Farm.
Then again, who else could be a captain in the team? I think Smith isn’t really tactically astute, and lacks the real leadership quality a captain should have. He’s probably the most determined player in the world, but for me he’s still a boy, and received the best player treatment when he was given captaincy. Sadly I think Warner might be the best leader in the team, both tactically and character wise, but we all know he’s banned and his overly strong character (let’s just put it that way) is the reason for that. Lots of people talk about Head being a good captain and leader; I’m nowhere near convinced with his temperament but I guess we’ll see in the future.

IPL lessons on leadership to help Cummins

I don’t understand why things can’t just be pushed back a year. It’s not fair on Bangladesh especially to lose the chance to play test matches that have a somewhat more meaningful cause. I mean the system had big flaws anyway, especially with top teams playing more matches, meaning matches between smaller teams suddenly had a much higher value and less margin for error, but now the final almost seems a little farcical and meaningless

Australia lead tweaked Test championship

Agree, and he’s been in pretty poor form for a while now. I hope for everyone’s sake though he does well and proves everyone wrong

AJ Tye brought into Australian white-ball squad for India series

I think next year, the BBL is probably going to change from a T20 tournament to a Hundred tournament. They might also add a wildcard “around the world” round, where batters either have to make a run, or spin on the spot. Lastly, they might replace the balls with pinatas, that will get the party spirit going and really capture the casual general public member. Family friendly!

The Big Bash has announced three new rules for BBL10 and they're ridiculous

It’s a better squad than last time, with far more batsmen putting their hand up, and even more depth in bowling too. India for me don’t have an in-form wicketkeeper (with bat and gloves), and less fast bowling with Ishant in doubt. India also struggled in their last test (albeit it was a while ago) with a similar squad, against a New Zealand side that we thrashed.

Hey, I think Pucovski should get a go too. He more than deserves it.
I was just giving some reason as to why Burns still remains up for selection and that his “regurgitation” wasn’t always justified. Perhaps though his Shield or Test form was never quite good enough at the right times; then again, one time he was dropped after being brought in cold for Warner/Bancroft after Newlands (and top scoring in the 2nd innings), for none other than Aaron Finch who had no FC opening record to speak of. But if Burns is picked he’d get max 1, maybe 2 games to prove his worth.

He’s been shafted more than his record suggests he should have been. Dropped 5 times, hardly any of them really fair. So I think the selectors might be repaying him for past mistakes a little.
