It was certainly a foul, though. Poor defending. He didn’t have climb all over Bes and pull his shirt. He’s a blunt axe of a defender. I’m not a fan at all.

Are Western United a Cinderella story or the A-League's ugly sibling?

Definitely need to bring in a goalscorer though. DWH hasn’t really got it, I’m afraid, and McDonald will be 38. He’s doing well on his, ahem, compact legs, but we need more up front.

Are Western United a Cinderella story or the A-League's ugly sibling?

Agree. There are only so many spots at a club, and young players often have to move for game time.

Are Western United a Cinderella story or the A-League's ugly sibling?

I’ll put my hand up right away. No more Popaball, please.

Are Western United a Cinderella story or the A-League's ugly sibling?

They would be great for the A League. Let’s hope they make it.
Agree on Milligan, though – a marquee from a relegated English 3rd division club?????? And they ditched him! Like Hearts. He’s certainly milking one last pay day from a gullible club with the Bulls.
Tommy Oar is hardly over the hill. He’s just a rather ordinary player.

Bulls' struggles underline A-League challenge

What was the argument against A League transfer fees between clubs? I’ve never understood the policy of no fees.

Save the Mariners or it just ain't the A-League

I simply don’t believe that a second division can be funded. Assuming part time pro players, the travel and accommodation bill will be immense for each club for a national competition.

The A League is about to have its finances almost halved. How does a second division get off the ground.

Pigs will fly on silver wings first.

Save the Mariners or it just ain't the A-League

Clubs come and go all over the world. No one wants a club to go under, but if CCM survive into next season, it will be minor miracle. The problem is the lack of potential. That small population base (and it really isn’t anything like Wellington – ever been to Gosford??) means a crippling, or should I say headcrushing, glass ceiling. No matter how the A League grows, CCM will always be a small club with a small support base. In short, a good candidate for a second division.
But this of course is part of the problem we can never duck in this country in general – our small population.

Save the Mariners or it just ain't the A-League

This exactly.

Save the Mariners or it just ain't the A-League

TBH, Mid, my view is that it would have been better to call the season closed and award the Premiership to SFC, but of course the Fox relationship, such as it is, could not permit that.

My hunch is that the resumption is going to be a ratings calamity. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think so.

The A-League season 2019-20 is far from done and I'm still scratching my head

FFS, are we still rehashing this?

FFA could demand exactly nothing other than the final 12 million.

The A-League season 2019-20 is far from done and I'm still scratching my head

I am sure I am not alone right now in finding it impossible to care.
Tough field for you to til right now, Stuart.
I suspect that the results are going to be very ugly in ratings terms, unfortunately, while the NRL are posting extraordinary figures.
The reality is that football, in this country, is a live rather than tv sport, much more so than NRL in particular.

The A-League season 2019-20 is far from done and I'm still scratching my head

Yeah, sure.

Does Australia hold the key to the rest of the EPL season?

It’s not impossible- it’s just a question of choices.

This is literally true.

Analysis of A-League attendances 2019-20

I suggest that climate change and hotter summers means that it is essential.

Stadiums are not the problem you suggest here. The question becomes which stadiums and how to schedule the games. Very far from impossible.

Analysis of A-League attendances 2019-20

What a season, as others have noted.

The only thing I personally have drawn from the stats is that it supports my firming view that we need to shift to a winters season. Summers are untenable for a sport like football, and last summer is what we can expect in the future.

Analysis of A-League attendances 2019-20

This club has been an utter waste of space. No identity. No home ground. Smoke and mirrors and a constantly changing story on their stadium build.

A horrible mistake from FFA.

A-League season review: Western United

Meh. What would they know?

Is Jean-Paul de Marigny the man to restore some pride in Western Sydney?

Kurtz, Babbel – hasn’t been a good season for German coaches in Oz.

Is Jean-Paul de Marigny the man to restore some pride in Western Sydney?

So where are the crowds, Mid?

Is Jean-Paul de Marigny the man to restore some pride in Western Sydney?

But he’s getting results in points and performance, Franko? Isn’t that enough?

Is Jean-Paul de Marigny the man to restore some pride in Western Sydney?

Personally I think it could be a dull game. RF will avoid a loss at all costs, so I expect Brisbane to set up 5 across the back and try to grab a goal late in the game as Wanderers are tiring.
In other words, 85 minutes of WSW battering their heads against Roar’s parked bus and then 15 minutes of BR onslaught. It’s Fowler’s regular MO.
The only hope of a decent game to watch is Wanderers scoring early.

Is Jean-Paul de Marigny the man to restore some pride in Western Sydney?

If I look at your suggested table, Stuart, it seems clear to me that Brisbane Roar have the least quality in their starting 11 of all the clubs from 5-10. I will be surprised if Brisbane don’t fall off the pace quite sharply over the next month.
I’m seeing Wanderers and the Reds in 5 and 6, with Brisbane, Victory, WU and the Jets (the biggest improvers) scrapping around 7, 8,9 and 10. The Jets are the wildcard. It’s not often you see a team so transformed by a change of coach and they could really upset some applecarts in the next few weeks.
What to do with CCM? Their only function now seems to prevent any other club from sequestering the spoon.

A-League parity causes havoc in a frantic run to the finals

More good work from Optus.

Hopefully A League next.

Why we should all pick a J.League team to support this season

Very good chance of a direct reversal of last season, with Sydney running away with the Premiership, only to be done by Perth in the Grand Final knockout cup (I refuse to call it the Championship).

Perth Glory and Bruno Fornaroli are back, but Melbourne Victory are goooooone
