I’ve also heard only Rojas and McM on 2 year deals, the others on one.

That would be more logical.

Brebner relieved of his duties after derby mauling

Very similar situation when Ange P came to Brisbane. The season was well done and a write off. He had a look at the players, decided who he wanted to keep and began recruiting for the following season – and we all know how well that worked out.

Perfect time to bring Popovic or any other coach. No pressure and get ready for next season.

Brebner relieved of his duties after derby mauling

The football forums on the Roar are like week old road kill these days.

The old debate has dried up.

Top performers: Western United versus Melbourne Victory

City insisted on playing Rami on the wing, when clearly he isnt a winger; he’s a 10 – that rarest of Aussie fauna, a talented 10.
So now he’s being played in his natural position and he’s shining. Quite an indictment of City coaching.

Ramy Najjarine was wasted at Melbourne City, the Jets have set him free

Anyway, the football has been great. So much better than the last 3 years at least.

Ten reasons to be optimistic about the A-League’s future

Yes, I have alreadynoted that this post – this exact post with a quick update added in – in the past. I recall the wording. He’s a fraud.

Ten reasons to be optimistic about the A-League’s future

No mention of sleeping giants waking now, thank God.

Ten reasons to be optimistic about the A-League’s future

You’ve posted this text before – with a quick update on the Bulls edited in. What are you? An AFL operative.

Give it a break.

Ten reasons to be optimistic about the A-League’s future

Nice money for completely trashing the planet’s climate.

The Roar's A-League expert tips and predictions: Match week 1

I’m picking the Reds to be the surprise package this A League season. Picking them to spring an upset over the unloved shovel-ready Western United. 1-2
Tho they’re my team, I think Brisbane don’t have the firepower to take the points. 1-3 MC.
MacArthur unfortunately are spinning one bad move after another and alienating their fans, but I’m picking them as a top 3 side and they will be too good for Wanderers. 0-2

The Roar's A-League expert tips and predictions: Match week 1

To shame? Good Lord, what nonsense. The shame was Rossi’s.

As the highest paid player in world football, he took money to fix the result of a match. Utterly disgraceful. That you try to rose tint it reflects very poorly on you personally.

Messi vs Ronaldo will be known as the greatest individual sports rivalry of all time

RIP certainly, but also he was involved in match fixing while the highest paid player in world football. I’m not sure that he deserves the accolade “legend”.

Messi vs Ronaldo will be known as the greatest individual sports rivalry of all time

BTW, I will be very surprised if the League kicks off in December. I’m expecting kick off in February.

Why 2021 is about to put the A back in the A-League

Agree, Stuart. Finally, our conservative coaches will be forced to give young talent a chance.

But there’s no doubt that the League is going to take a hit in the process. My feeling is that we can expect many sub 10k attendances and that average attendance will fall significantly.

The optimist in me would like to think that exciting young players playing attacking football will build interest over the season. The crunch in all this is that, with a one year tv deal, the A League doesn’t have the time it needs to rebuild.

Why 2021 is about to put the A back in the A-League

Nicholas, the last thing we need right now and forever is yet another attempt to ape NRL or AFL.
Spike the idea.

Is there room for a football State of Origin?

Wasn’t there a Premier’s Plate one year?

Never was there a luckier team in the ACL. Outplayed game after game but still somehow one through.

Is three Popovics a few too many?

I struggle with fathers whose only ambitions for their sons is to play football.
The joy of the game fades pretty fast after that first flush of youthful exuberance. I remember Messi at 21, and I look at him now… he shows no sign of enjoying the game.
I think that’s why we all love watching young players in action. That exuberance is only there for a couple of years, then it becomes a job for those who depend on chasing a ball for their income.
I suppose the counter to that goes that if they make the grade, they become very wealthy in their 20s, perhaps millionaires. But I’ve seen parents pretty much bet the house on their talented footballing child and, personally, I’ve not seen one of those gambles pay off. I know they do, sometimes, that tiny one in a million chance, but such a gamble on kids, who – and I’ve seen this too – feel like a failure because they didn’t make the cut in the end.
I guess I’m getting old. The game that was once more than a game for me now seems just the most trifling of trifles. If I lived in the north of England I might feel different, because that would be pretty much all I had. But Covid has changed a lot of things, and I suspect that many of us will never see sport as important in the way we once did.

Is three Popovics a few too many?

Popovic would be doing his sons a serious disservice if he takes them to Greece.

Far better to leave them where they are to prove themselves under another coach. I can’t believe that he is seriously contemplating this. If true, it reveals a striking lack of judgement and professionalism.

Is three Popovics a few too many?

A big questionmark is what kind of a team SFC will have for the ACL.

With the reduced income from Fox, our clubs are likely to fall well short of even rudimentary competitiveness in Asia, which is pretty much where we were before all this.

Gripping grand final proves there's still life in the A-League yet

Is this headline serious?

The last and most unhinged decision of the dying Lowy/Gallop axis is what I see. The “shovel ready” stadium was nothing but spin and the Geelong option was a disaster.

The team was fine. The club is a relentless embarrassment.

Sydney FC may have claimed the A-League trophy but Western United made the season

I would like to agree with you, but I can’t forget how they stated as part of their bid that the stadium was “shovel ready”. It clearly wasn’t even close to that, so there was obfuscation from the outset.

Are Western United a Cinderella story or the A-League's ugly sibling?

Agree that Bes certainly made the most of it by backing in.

Are Western United a Cinderella story or the A-League's ugly sibling?

Good appointment. Aloisi would have been serious misstep. Way to much negative baggage. Brebner is a Victory man through and through, and he knows the youngsters, which will be crucial next season.

Are Western United a Cinderella story or the A-League's ugly sibling?

I think the biggest issue with WU is that their bid is widely felt to have been based on smoke and mirrors. I personally do not believe that the backers ever had the slightest intention of building a stadium at Tarneit, and I am certainly not alone in that. As with so many things that have been too good to be true, that was exactly how the stadium has played out.
I love having an extra team in the League, but this club and the way they secured their place in the competition, are an utter disgrace, and shame on Gallop and his band of incompetents for letting the bid through the gate without a contractual agreement to build the mythical stadium.

Are Western United a Cinderella story or the A-League's ugly sibling?

Agree. I have no problem at all with the way they play.
