hahahaha of course the Kiwi teams would have to play the Aussie teams to get a win but a valid point none the less. Good point on the new laws and I also think that, like with most law changes, there will be unintended consequences that we won’t see for a while. Be interesting to see how it all pans out.

The Wrap: Spare a thought for injured players as Super Rugby’s two rutting rhinos deliver an epic final preview

Thanks Geoff, a great review of the weekend and some good insights. That Orange Academy is such a good idea and something you’d think RA would be interested in. I guess the lack of interest, along with the absolute disastrous management of the Super team franchise by both Rebels and RA really does indicate the complete lack of professionalism, forward thinking and abilities of both organizations. It’s such a shame as no matter which way it goes down there the real hurt will go to the supporters and players of the game in Victoria. I can only imagine how many potential rugby players are watching this mess unfold and turning their backs on rugby because of it.

Exactly. A player of his experience doing something so absolutely stupid and everyone blaming the referee. How about blaming the dumb sook half back who spends more time whinging and crying on the field than he does playing. His attitude and constant crap talk is half the reason the Tahs are playing so poorly. He’s the captain and everyone takes their lead off him.

Which is almost every other player in the game. His defence has got worse

Well the opposition will love it if Beale gets picked but I can’t see him providing anything for the Wallabies. Despite the love affair from some he’s been pretty average in attack and absolutely atrocious in defence so I can’t see what he offers.

I think it’d be a mistake bringing him back. He’s a great player but we’d get a better return on developing his replacement

Nope! Going back to the past isn’t a good idea. RM is great but he still makes mistakes and wasn’t great in the RWC final

and Folau was always overrated. Sure, brilliant in the air and dangerous in space but his defence was always poor, his positioning was poor, he couldn’t distribute the ball, especially to the right and while his kicking improved it was never up to the level needed.

The five candidates for the Wallabies No.10 jersey - and the old heads who may sneak in to join them

Lost me at Suaalii. He hasn’t demonstrated he’s got anything in rugby yet and already being touted as a Wallabie. What an absolute joke. He needs to prove he’s good enough to be a Waratah – not hard with their current form – before he’s even looked at for the Wallabies

Your last point is crucial. The Kiwis will be back as they replace those players who have left. Even the Crusaders will rebuild their coaching and players and will also be back. Australia need to find out how to develop players and coaches with no tier between club and SR because this is still the biggest anchor holding them back.

Australia's SRP sides may have fallen at trans-Tasman hurdle - but three signs point to a closing gap

I think regardless of how it came out there has to be some pretty poor decisions by a group of people that should have known better for it to be in such a poor state. There’s no way this could have occurred by people making good financial and management decisions. Now I don’t know if it was RA or the Rebels making these poor decisions, but I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t both, and whoever they were they should be accountable. The idea that any of them should be let off because they’re “good guys” is not something I can agree with. They are all in a position of responsibility that they went into knowing they had that responsibility and now they should be held accountable. If any of them can show where they identified areas and notified the right people who then chose to ignore it, then sure they are probably ok. But the idea that people in charge aren’t responsible and accountable for their actions is not right.

The Wrap: Rugby Australia gaslights Rebels staff and why ‘I Can’t Go For That’

Thanks Geoff, I don’t claim to know anything about the situation at the Rebels, but what does strike me is the lack or seeming lack of accountability from the management and board that permitted this situation to grow until it has become the complete @rse that it is. I get they have families and all the rest of it, but they still need to be accountable for their actions. My only concern with the whole DOCA thing was that it was continuing to use the same people who got the Rebels into this situation and that just doesn’t seem right to me. I get that they are trying to run a rugby club and care for the rugby, not so sure they care about Vic rugby or they’d keep the players there in the off season rather than send them away to QLD and NSW, but when you get to that level you should be judged on your actions, not your intent. I get the pain that it is causing the players and if I was them I’d be having hard conversations with my manager, but this is about the management and running of the game and the people who have made these poor decisions need to be accountable for them.

I noticed that too. I’m no fan of Beale and I do wonder what people see in him. he may have been a great attacking player once (although for me never as good as the media hype made him out to be) but his defence is worse than it ever was, and it was always poor. How in the hell a coach like Cron can keep him on the field is beyond stupid and just demonstrates an incredible poor selection ability.

Rugby Sevens Singapore: Tahs youngster set for debut, Hoops out to impress, new skipper to lead Aussie women

Big weekend for the mens and one they need to do well in if they have a chance for Paris. It’ll take something special and more than they’ve demonstrated consistently so far. Good luck to them and I hope they get up.

The ladies might struggle but less of an issue as they will go through to Paris regardless and I think it’s pretty smart to rest and recover rather than keep pushing players who have niggles. Looking forward to seeing how they go as while they’ll definitely miss Caslick and Smale it does provide a good opportunity for others to step up

Rugby Sevens Singapore: Tahs youngster set for debut, Hoops out to impress, new skipper to lead Aussie women

Suaalii needs to prove himself first. he’s been away from rugby for a bit now and was only ever a schoolboy wonder so I think he’ll have a lot of learnings to pick up. Personally I’d have him playing in Shute Shield first to see if how much he has to learn. There’s no way I’d throw him straight into the 15 position, that is bound to not end well

Super Rugby Pacific teams round 11: Harrison in for Edmed, Lynagh, White out, Rebels change entire front row

Nice post mate and some really good points. The issue for me is not only the gap from Super to international level, but the huge gap between club rugby and Super that means the players coming through lack the experience and skills they need and so have to learn and develop them as they play. This for me is a big reason why Lolesio has taken time to develop and players like Carter Gordon and Jorgenson have gone backwards. With no tier between the club and Super it will always be something that the players here struggle with

The five Aussie young guns who should be celebrated - and the one who is ready for the Wallabies

Not sure I agree that the Shute Shield or Hospital Cup are great pathways for Super rugby. From what I’ve seen there the level of play is generally way below what is needed to prepare players for Super rugby and the reason so many struggle when they get to Super level is because they haven’t got the experience or skills needed at that level. Australia needs a tier between club and super where players can work with other better skilled and experienced players so they can learn and gain experience before being thrown in at the deep end in a super team where they generally fail. Lolesio and Jorgenson are two prime examples of players who were great in club rugby but are missing the skills and experience needed for Super rugby.

Jorgensen set to be left out for Hurricanes as Schmidt drops in at Tahs training

Good to see Harrison start. He’s been good when he comes on. Not sure of the back 3 for the Tahs though and Perese is good as an individual but his distribution is weak and defence is poor

I didn’t think he was allowed to drop Jorgensen. That’ll upset the people who funded the ridiculous deal he was given.
