Both SRQU games are shaping up as crackers, can’t pick a winner between Brums and Reds if we go off last weekend’s form guide it should be a no brainer but as they say a week’s a long time in sport. I think the Brumbies and Rebels are both better teams then they showed last week and may use this week’s games as a catalyst to prove that.

Skippers back for Reds versus Brumbies showdown

Was thinking the same surely shoulder to the head.

Welsh beast somehow gets away with hideous cheap shot on Faf de Klerk

This should ruffle a few feathers not enough all blacks and under no circumstances should wallabies be considered in a world 23.

Dethroning the kings: An ultimate XV to beat the Boks in South Africa

What do you mean Hodge was essential to the Reds backline plays last week.

Super Rugby AU Round 8 teams: Liam comes Wright onto the Queensland bench to face Brumbies

I prefer Jock at 15 but Hegarty was good there last week and it is by far his best position I don’t like him coming off the bench into the centres often the plays breakdown with him. Very inexperienced front row but they held their own against the Rebels last week, but man that is a formidable Brumbies team, Jock defending on the wing against those Brumbies wingers is a worry.

I like Smith but he is still pretty raw, certainly doesn’t look better to my eye then Blyth. Uru everyone can see his point of difference and glad to see him retained on the bench.

No further sanction for Cusack.

hmm whats happening with Blyth, he must of been out with HS and is now in the naughty chair.

The less passing Hodge needs to do the better his chances are for higher honours I wouldn’t have him in my test 23 at this point but I can understand why he would be.

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

Where do you put McReight?

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

I think you would find that TK defense would be worse then JP this year I’m sure stats could be used to back this statement up but I prefer to go in baseless and work up from there 🙂

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

The only way I could accept Jim McKay leaving the Reds would be to enter the Wallabies setup has made a huge difference with the sides attacking structures but he just seems to be able to identify opponents weaknesses in defense to expose.

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

TK is clearly the worst unless Newsome is playing there obviously.

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

Appearantly Liam still leader off the field this season, hard on the amazing job JOC has done this season at the helm if Liam resumes captaincy during the finals series.

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

If Liam is back from the bench does JOC remain Captain for the game or does he hand the reigns back once LW takes the field?

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

True forgot about It can’t leave him out I would move Uru to start and Liam off the bench with ASY the unlucky one to miss out.

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

He did mention in an interview the other last week he was targeting the Brums home game for a return. I imagine via the bench at the expense of ASY later in the game I would guess.

That’s the key right there Nic not highlight reel stuff but you notice them most when they’re not there.

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

As if the Brums weren’t already strong enough, hopefully Miller has been smashing the pies and beers and won’t be up to speed. Great outcome though as Brown has not been overly impressive compared to his contemporaries.

Brumbies bring back Will Miller as much-needed injury cover

Great write up Nic, the defensive structure and midfield breakdowns seemed much more in control this week. HS and ASY seem to be the glue that enable this Reds teams threats to flourish. Will be interesting clash with the Brums this weekend with both teams makeups likely to be different to the ones that laid the platform for game of the season last time round.
Will Miller returning is huge for the Brums also game on.

Thanks Brett, so reading this my interpretation is that as soon as the receiver lands and advances from his position the line out is officially over and opposition is free to engage or not engage as they choose so no need to retreat for those already involved in the lineout to retreat.

The Wrap: Super Rugby AU and Aotearoa anxiously hovering on the bubble

LOL Gordon is a fine Super level 9, his passing is usually pretty horrible and last year for the Wallabies it most certainly was terrible, there is no way he is ahead of McDermott. I think TM is the front runner to be honest, Powell is slow and uninspiring (perfect for the Rebels game plan), White’s experience shouldn’t be discounted and with that should start but McDermott coming on against tiring defences in the last 20-30mins easy choice.

Six talking points from Super Rugby AU and Aotearoa

Maybe the Tahs have shown a way to nulify the Brumbies maul somewhat, better to give up 5m then a potential penalty and 40m. Obviously not wise tactic 5m out.

The Wrap: Super Rugby AU and Aotearoa anxiously hovering on the bubble

If the opposition choose not to engage (smart tactic against the might of the Brumbies Maul Prowess), when is the ball officially out of the lineout, does the defending team need to retreat 5m before then engaging the player at the front?

The Wrap: Super Rugby AU and Aotearoa anxiously hovering on the bubble

Even with the other forwards attached as they were? I imagine they were as it was done so right infront of the Ref and was allowed to continue, I guess from the defence you just need to make sure you aim up on the ball carrier and bring them down accurately.
