Sensible post. Let nature take it’s course. With Starc going to the IPL, it may be a sign where he is thinking about a career post test cricket.
Why Starc should be first to make way if selectors opt to regenerate ageing Test team’s legendary bowling attack
I’m sure the selectors from NSW such as McDonald, Bailey and Dodemaide will do their best to keep them in the team until 2050.

That dismal NSW side has beaten the defending champions twice, home and away. Maybe the Shield comp is dismal, and that’s why selectors are reluctant to make any changes.

He is averaging 22 overall, and close to 18 this season. A tailender would be handy with those numbers.
Champions! Australia U19s break 14-year drought with dominant World Cup final win, India bridesmaids again
Well done boys. Hopefully majority of the lads play in the Sheffield Shield in the not too distant future and succeed. It is a step up.
Teague Wyllie also did well a couple of years ago, but he is finding it challenging in the SS at the moment.

Dixon also did well in the under 19’s tour of England last year. He does look promising. Fingers crossed he makes it to the big time, along with his team mates.

Again, I wasn’t serious with replacing Head with Neser, as I wasn’t calling for him to be dropped. All I want from Head and Marnus as well is to get some consistency back in their batting.
If both contribute very little with the bat, it then puts pressure on the remaining top 6 or 7. NZ are a good side, and will be tough to beat at home.
If Australia bats similar to what they did at the Gabba, then NZ have a great chance of winning.

I was relpying to 13th Man when he said “Neser for Marnus”, and I flippantly responded with Neser for Head. I wasn’t serious. And Neser for Marnus is not the right call either to replace a specialist batsman with a fast bowler.
You already have M.Marsh and Green in the top six who provide bowling options.

You could translate Head’s form to soccer team. In the last five games, that soccer team has lost four, but in one match, they won 5-0.
I’m not asking for Head to be dropped, just like a few on here who wanted Smith to be dropped if he failed as an opener.
I just want Head to get some consistency back in his batting. When he is in form, he makes a huge difference to the side. Just like he did in the ODI WC final.

Or maybe Nesers style of bowling is suited to NZ conditions. But yeah, he has been below par this summer.

The number five position still has to be just as reliable as a number three. At number six, you have an alrounder or fifth bowling option and at number seven, you have the wicketkeeper.
And if you take away his hundred, Head had a very ordinary summer with the bat.

Or Neser for Head. Marnus and Head need to contribute something useful over in NZ.
With Warner retiring, and Smith moving into the openers spot, Marnus and Head went under the radar with their lack of form.

Why are they taking five fast bowlers over in NZ for just a two test series?

More than six months ago, Australia was up against an English side that had Anderson and Broad aged 41 and 37 respectively.
'I don't know what happened but it's awesome': Aussie U19s scrape into World Cup final by solitary wicket in cliffhanger
Before he plays for Australia, he needs to learn more of his craft in the Sheffield Shield. He is only 18. If he is as good as Rabada, he will get an opportunity. Certainly earlier than the age of 25.
But at the end of the day, there is only three spots in the team for fast bowlers. You can’t fit Straker, Morris, Bartlett, Richardson, Johnson, Sutherland, O’Neill and Cummins, (who is still only 30) all in the same team.

From the second innings against Pakistan in Sydney, till the end of the Windies series, Hazlewood was in good form and the pick of the bowlers.
I wouldn’t mind Neser for Starc, but unfortunately it is only a two test series.

I think what people need to remember was that the ODI WC final was held on Nov 19. Now traditionally Australia starts it’s test summer around that time. It kinda shows you the influence or lack of influence Australia has as part of the “big 3”.
But the first test of the summer was in mid December. If the ICC were smart with their scheduling, the ODI WC could have been scheduled three weeks earlier and be completed by end of October.
Australia would have a normal test summer, and more importantly, they probably could’ve been touring NZ right now, followed by a stronger South African team.
ICC needs to dedicate Nov, Dec, Feb, Mar, Jun, Jul, as test playing months. And have ICC white ball events outside of those months. While the rest of the year franchise Twenty20 tournaments can take place.
Australia and NZ have the BBL and Super Smash at roughly the same time of the year. Maybe the BBL and Super Smash could merge one day. Who knows.
Test cricket will survive, as long as the ICC improves it’s scheduling, and has dedicated windows for the longer format of the game to be played.
Our worst fears are realised - South Africa's shocker across the ditch is bringing Test cricket into disrepute
There is no such thing as a “big 3”. More like a “big 1” with England and Australia doing well to keep up with India.
India generates an estimated 80% of ICC revenue. They take home 38.5% of that revenue. The rest are below 7%. And the IPL has an $8.6 billion tv over five years. India’s commercial domestic revenue is killing everyone, including England and Australia.
Even if India, England and Australia take a cut from the ICC, and the money is redistributed to the other remaining test countries, it still wouldn’t be enough, especially if their commercial domestic revenue is relatively low.

Pakistan were better than a 3-0 beaten team. SA drew with India recently . Here’s hoping SA’s second rate team to NZ is just a one off.

Manenti is averaging 43 with the ball in red ball cricket, while in both the white ball formats, he is averaging 38. Has a long way to go.

Bartlett has 62 wickets at 26. Not bad for a 25 year old. He was also good for the Brisbane Heat. Another bowler to keep an eye on is Gabe Bell. He has 135 wickets @ 24. He just took ten against Qld and was pivotal in Tassie’s win.

Ange’s system doesn’t rely on one player. Tottenham are still doing well, even though they sold Kane, just days before the season kicked off.
Also Ange needs the right players to fit into his system. A long term player like Dier wasn’t needed, because he didn’t fit into Ange’s sfyle.

Nice to see Daniel Hughes get a mention as a left field option. At 34, the ship has sailed, but in domestic 50 overs, Hughes averages 58. And because he plays for NSW, shouldn’t Hughes be an automatic selection for Australia in ODI’s?
As for JFM, he should bat at five or six, and be the heir apparent to Maxi.
