Again, I wasn’t serious with replacing Head with Neser, as I wasn’t calling for him to be dropped. All I want from Head and Marnus as well is to get some consistency back in their batting.
If both contribute very little with the bat, it then puts pressure on the remaining top 6 or 7. NZ are a good side, and will be tough to beat at home.
If Australia bats similar to what they did at the Gabba, then NZ have a great chance of winning.

I was relpying to 13th Man when he said “Neser for Marnus”, and I flippantly responded with Neser for Head. I wasn’t serious. And Neser for Marnus is not the right call either to replace a specialist batsman with a fast bowler.
You already have M.Marsh and Green in the top six who provide bowling options.

You could translate Head’s form to soccer team. In the last five games, that soccer team has lost four, but in one match, they won 5-0.
I’m not asking for Head to be dropped, just like a few on here who wanted Smith to be dropped if he failed as an opener.
I just want Head to get some consistency back in his batting. When he is in form, he makes a huge difference to the side. Just like he did in the ODI WC final.

The number five position still has to be just as reliable as a number three. At number six, you have an alrounder or fifth bowling option and at number seven, you have the wicketkeeper.
And if you take away his hundred, Head had a very ordinary summer with the bat.

With Warner retiring, and Smith moving into the openers spot, Marnus and Head went under the radar with their lack of form.

But at the end of the day, there is only three spots in the team for fast bowlers. You can’t fit Straker, Morris, Bartlett, Richardson, Johnson, Sutherland, O’Neill and Cummins, (who is still only 30) all in the same team.

I wouldn’t mind Neser for Starc, but unfortunately it is only a two test series.

I think what people need to remember was that the ODI WC final was held on Nov 19. Now traditionally Australia starts it’s test summer around that time. It kinda shows you the influence or lack of influence Australia has as part of the “big 3”.
But the first test of the summer was in mid December. If the ICC were smart with their scheduling, the ODI WC could have been scheduled three weeks earlier and be completed by end of October.
Australia would have a normal test summer, and more importantly, they probably could’ve been touring NZ right now, followed by a stronger South African team.
ICC needs to dedicate Nov, Dec, Feb, Mar, Jun, Jul, as test playing months. And have ICC white ball events outside of those months. While the rest of the year franchise Twenty20 tournaments can take place.
Australia and NZ have the BBL and Super Smash at roughly the same time of the year. Maybe the BBL and Super Smash could merge one day. Who knows.
Test cricket will survive, as long as the ICC improves it’s scheduling, and has dedicated windows for the longer format of the game to be played.

There is no such thing as a “big 3”. More like a “big 1” with England and Australia doing well to keep up with India.
India generates an estimated 80% of ICC revenue. They take home 38.5% of that revenue. The rest are below 7%. And the IPL has an $8.6 billion tv over five years. India’s commercial domestic revenue is killing everyone, including England and Australia.
Even if India, England and Australia take a cut from the ICC, and the money is redistributed to the other remaining test countries, it still wouldn’t be enough, especially if their commercial domestic revenue is relatively low.

As for JFM, he should bat at five or six, and be the heir apparent to Maxi.
