Good debut from Bartlett. Has a respectable start to his first class career, with an average of 26. He is 25, so he is heading towards his best years. Early days, but he could be a good replacement for Hazlewood.

Green makes most of promotion but questions remain over best spot as Bartlett's burst propels Aussies to victory

If Konstas does make it to test cricket, then maybe his nickname could be “KD” or “kd lang”.

Konstas craving: Young gun slams ton to rescue Aussie U19s from disaster against Windies

That hurt. Maybe not as painful as Iran in ‘97, but still not pleasant though.

Australia played their best game of the tournament against quality opposition. Australia probably should’ve been at least 3-0 up, but they didn’t take their chances.

That allowed S. Korea to still be in the game deep into stoppage time. It was going well for 95 minutes, then Miller decided to impact the game negatively.
Not sure if Miller was international standard, and that was before last nights game.

The thing is Australia don’t have the quality of players that SK possesses. With Arnold,I am on the fence. I don’t like his style of football, but he did well in Qatar.

If Ange was coaching, Australia may have scored a few more goals, but also conceded a few more. To play Ange’s system, you got to have the cattle. At the moment, Australia don’t have the cattle. We don’t have players in EPL, Serie A, La liga etc.

In the end, it was a disappointing way to go out.

“At the same time, the ICC needs to work closely with less financially well-off Test nations to help them develop the new revenue streams you mentioned.”

Yep, that is the key.

The future and fortunes of Test cricket are in India's hands

Better to come up with suggestions than none at all. A bad idea could still be tweaked into a great idea. Not much you can do when someone offers no ideas.

The future and fortunes of Test cricket are in India's hands

“Given they’re super reliant on ICC funds compared to the big 3, it makes sense to me they should get far more than I, E & A, simply because these nations can generate income to make up shortfalls far more easily and in that sense, them giving up ICC money seems fair.”
No doubt the other countries are super reliant on ICC funds. But a country like India plays a big part in generating funds for the ICC. The last ODI WC was held in India. And in the next seven years, India will host the
-2031 ODI WC with Bangladesh
– 2029 Champions Trophy
-2026 Twenty20 WC with Sri Lanka
It is estimated that more than 80% of the ICC income comes from India. And they are only taking home 38.5%.
Redistribution may well help the other countries. And maybe India, England and Australia should get far less. But if other countries still can’t grow their revenue streams, what happens then?

The future and fortunes of Test cricket are in India's hands

It gets back to what’s fair. India generate the most revenue, while it seems England and Australia are next with most revenue.
It is a noble idea for India, England and Australia to loosen the purse strings and distribute to other nations. However with that approach, it might effect England and Australia. Those two countries do have competition from other sports, as far aquiring talent is concerned.
The best way for cricket to grow is to generate new revenue. For Pakistan, NZ, WI, SL, Afg, Ire, Zim, SA, they all need to come up with long term strategies.
Windies have hinted in developing a working relationship with the US. If the Windies can help get cricket a foothold in the states, then they could be benefitted economically.
Also maybe its time some of these twenty20 leagues merge. There is too many of them. I wouldn’t mind seeing Australia and NZ merge their twenty20 leagues. It may benefit NZ in the long run.
Another idea is for the WTC to be expanded to best of three series. Cricket needs to come up with new ideas/ strategies to grow the game.

The future and fortunes of Test cricket are in India's hands

It’s really a ‘Big 1’. Revenue shared model from 2024-2027.
India- 38.5%
England- 6.89%
Australia- 6.25%
Pakistan- 5.75%
New Zealand- 4.73%
West Indies- 4.58%
Sri Lanka- 4.52%
Bangladesh- 4.46%
South Africa- 4.37%
Ireland-3.01%
Zimbabwe- 2.94%
Afghanistan- 2.8%
Pakistan is closer to Australia than Australia is near to England.

Wtf..

Smith delivers timely response to 'average' critics who don't think he's an opener

I would never barrack against Australia in cricket or in any sport. When I watch live sport, I take it as it comes, whether its a thrashing, close game or something in between.

With the regards to the opposition, you should always be respectful of them, irrespective of their ranking. And when they do well, you have to give them utmost due credit for their success.

That is my modus operandi when it comes to following international cricket and sport.

PS: in another sport like Rugby, do opposition fans barrack for the Wallabies?

It's not un-Australian to cheer against Australia - in fact, in our favourite sports, it is the best option

Smith’s not at fault at all. When Green got out, Australia were still reasonably placed. But when Head got bowled first ball, you could tell the momentum shifted towards the Windies.
M. Marsh and Carey followed soon after, and Australia still needed another 80 with four wickets in hand.
Australia lost the game when Green, Head, M. Marsh and Carey were all dismissed fairly quickly in a short space of time. A collapse of 4/23.

Trust the lower order or farm the strike? Smith follows Waugh path but tail ends poorly after his crucial late error

I felt sorry for Green. The ball deflected his elbow, and unfortunately it hit the stumps. He was building some good rhythm in his batting. I hope that innings is a good building block for him.

'Smith now averages 60 as an opener - so isn’t Australia the true winner?' The Liebke Report Card

I want Smith back at four, however, you never write off a champion. He would still do a job, regardless of his batting position.

Congrats to the Windies. They deserved the win. We can talk about Australia collapsing with the bat, but that’s partly due to the excellent bowling from Shamar Joseph. Sometimes, you’ve got to give credit to the opposition.

I hope the Windies can build their team around S. Joseph for the next decade. . If the other players can contribute just like they did in this test, then Shamar will win them a few matches.

Shamar Joseph has the potential to inspire the next generation of cricketers in the Caribbean.

As for Australia, they were beaten by a better team. Smith played a lone hand in his new role as opener. I still want him back at four. But you can never write off a champion.

Shamar's a superstar: Windies rookie destroys Australia with all-time great spell to break 27-year drought in cliffhanger

If Renshaw wasn’t in the squad, would you still pick him?

Besieged batting duo face moment of truth with Windies setting Aussies tricky target as Marnus slump continues

I’m not sure if someone like Travis Head was in the right frame of mind to play two shield games in that gap of 25 days.

So who replaces Marnus?

Besieged batting duo face moment of truth with Windies setting Aussies tricky target as Marnus slump continues

Australia has been far from it’s best against Pakistan and the West Indies. Maybe the reason for it was a lack of red ball cricket leading into the first test against Pakistan. There was a gap of 25 days from the WC Final to day 1 against Pakistan.
Plus, a few of the players stayed back to play in the twenty/20 series against India, just four days after the WC final.
If Australia wants to compete against India next summer, then the players need to get as much shield cricket as possible before the first test.

Play Australia Cup mid week.

'I'm over it': Arnie doubles down on A-League frustration

Sad to see Klopp leave. He has been at Liverpool for nearly a decade, so perhaps he has had enough of it. Also Liverpool don’t have the spending power of other clubs and is probably wondering if everyone is on the same level playing field with FFP, especially with Man City facing 115 charges.

'Running out of energy': Klopp to quit Liverpool at end of season as star duo emerge as frontrunners to replace him

Theres no reason why the A Leagues can’t start straight after the international window in September. With finals in other codes, which equates to less games, you would have more ground availability.

'I'm over it': Arnie doubles down on A-League frustration

Yep, you can’t rely just on shield form because the competition is not as strong as it used to be.

Aussies face huge call over batting experiment with Smith and Green failing again as Windies turn Test on its head

Interestingly some people had a go at Warner’s away test average. Yet the same people conveniently ignored Bancroft’s County stint from last year.

“no one who bats lower than 3 has any claim to be considered amongst the greats.”

One of the most ridiculous comments that I have ever read on this site.
