Good on him, he sacrificed his body for his country and has achieved more than most during his career he deserves to make some coin.

'I had my time': Cane stands down as All Blacks captain after signing new deal in Japan

Agree great initiative. I thought the crocodile roll yellow card was interesting. The ref called it out as the new law being enforced but I thought that wasn’t coming out until June or July?

The Wrap: Spare a thought for injured players as Super Rugby’s two rutting rhinos deliver an epic final preview

There’s always something in the Derby, but 1 side that is dead and buried and one that is most likely out of the comp changes the complexion of that derby slightly.
In terms of the quality of the game I’m confident we wouldn’t have seen the same level of desperation in defence and I wonder whether guys like Taylor and Williams would have come straight back into the starting side.

We’ll obviously never know, but to me it felt like two sides scrapping hard to hold onto their hopes of making the playoffs.

Good wrap again, but I think it undersells the quality of the Highlanders/Crusaders game. I thought it was a high speed, high skill cracker, with an excellent crowd to go along with it.

One thought to go with it was that this spectacle was allowed by the top 8 finals format. If it was top 4, both teams would already be out so we wouldn’t have seen the desperation nor the crowd turn out.

Yea, I bet Benji Marshall would’ve been on that list not long ago…

The five candidates for the Wallabies No.10 jersey - and the old heads who may sneak in to join them

Yea possibly, I also think it maybe down to coaches chopping and changing a lot more and not allowing players to settle at 10.
One thing that gets my goat is sending a promising 10 to 15 and then it takes even longer for the player to mature as a 10.

Fair, but Lucas is only just 25 now. And Debreczini is in the 30+ bracket.

What stands out to me reading this is that we seem to have a missing generation of 10s across AU and NZ.
Pretty much all 10s in the comp that I can think of are either 30 plus or 24 and under. Not many sit in the 25-30 range. DMac is the obvious exception and may explain why he stands out as one of the best.

I can’t think of many great ones that have headed overseas, so I wonder if there was a development issue during that 5 year window?

Ah so kiwis are getting upset about some bloke tackling too hard?

'Purely coincidental': Chiefs coach defends bruiser after ANOTHER late shot leaves Tah flattened - but was it legal?

Sorry you wanted exactly the same situation not just a hard hit after the player had passed? Sorry sir, carry on the outrage about a player being a meany and tackling too hard.

Oh so you just get a bit more sensitive if it’s a kiwi, that’s cool, didn’t realise

Well Mckenzie got smoked the other day against Moana Pacifica, were there calls for the death penalty? Or was there appreciation of a big hit?

This guy lives rent free in Christy’s head. I would love this guy in the Wallabies. He hasn’t just stopped at hitting 10s hard, he must have the most dominant hits in the comp, love to see it.

Well we’re all inferring that he lifted his elbow in defiance/showing a lack of contrition, but for a judiciary to rule that he isn’t remorseful, I would have thought they’d need to be able to prove that?

The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'

But if a judiciary can’t prove the intent of his gesture how can they use it as evidence of a lack of remorse in the future?

Lomanis gesture didn’t seem particularly bright to me, but can a judiciary prove the intent behind that action? I feel like it would be legally difficult?

Two questions came to mind for me on the weekends games:
1. What happened to the Brumbies maul? I thought they were very lucky not to concede penalty tries from a couple of them.
2. Has a team in any comp gone from a streak of championship wins to a wooden spoon? I can’t think of any.

Agree, the only thing stopping that being the worst possible run home is that they aren’t facing the Hurricanes.

Five things: Lesson Aussie rugby can learn from Kiwis - and why next month will determine whether SR gap has closed

We all still hate golden point though, right?

'Last few years have been hell': Iceman 2.0 Harrison gets 'dream come true' in Tahs' stunning golden point win

Nice article. Interesting that you don’t like watching the Crusaders at their home stadium, I much prefer it to the Hurricanes at the Cake Tin, which is always going to be half empty because it takes 10% of the entire Wellington population to fill it.

Also, on Moana, I can’t understand why they haven’t taken up Counties’ offer to use their stadium? Right size for them and surely a great potential fan base?

Looking at these match ups, it’s not going to be a stellar weekend of super rugby. Is there a better way to do the byes so the season doesn’t lose momentum halfway through? Maybe scatter them through the season?

In what context could Razor ever sack Schmidt? Schmidt was never employed by Razor.

I’ve always been an admirer of people who can be so confidently incorrect, so kudos to you on that. But for next time, NZR don’t have the Giteau law, so I’m confident Robertson isn’t trying to change it and if he is trying to influence it, I think RA might be wary of their rivals coach trying to change their policy.

Well it’s Galthie discussing things that occured in a World Rugby Committee meeting. These comments were made at a Six Nations debrief. I’m not sure what format the Six Nations debrief takes but it’s certainly not a World Rugby forum.

So, in terms of how the comments made it to the public forum, yea, that’s via Galthie telling everyone. For which, I think he should be sanctioned.

'Grow up': France coach still crying salty tears over RWC exit, makes 'disgusting' claim about Kiwi ref

I really don’t understand how no action was taken at the time against Galthie or Du Pont. But surely now World Rugby should be making some statement against Galthie?

Also, what is the benchmark for refereeing mistakes? It’s not going to be 0 because refs are human, but lets say they’re making over 1,000 judgements a game, surely 5 isn’t too bad?
Particularly when one of those decisions was the charged down kick that I’ve seen a few times and still can’t decide whether it was early or not.

One thing that the NRL and AFL don’t have is the NZ vs AU tribalism. NRL has the Warriors, but a single (mostly) underperforming team in a league full of Australian teams is not the same as an evenly split league of AU and NZ teams. I think it’s something that could be a good point of difference for Super Rugby in the future.

The other element is the lack of success of any Australian teams for so long has built up the NZ vs AU tribalism to the point where a win for any aussie team is a positive. If we get to a point where the Reds and the Tahs (for example) were regularly competing in finals against each other I would expect that old state rivalry to return.

Passionate, visceral, irrational tribalism is vital for any competition to succeed. Is a lack of it damaging Super Rugby?
