Missed this? What is the talk of letting Harrison go?? Surely not

Brumbies beat Waratahs in monsoonal conditions as injury toll goes from bad to worse

I’d never really seen anything that impressed me with jooste.
Tonight was a different story, he was involved in a lot of the big plays. Very impressive game.

'Perhaps it's surgery': Reds win ugly over Rebels to keep top four hopes alive as big-name Wallabies forced off

Terrible.
Difference is that there is hope for the future in NSW and Western Australia.
Apart from the five supporters on here, no one in Victoria cares about rugby.
Is almost exclusively to blame on the management in my eyes, even from the beginning, calling themselves the Melbourne rebels meant the rest of Victoria was disregarded.
A real shame, there’s no winners.
But if they don’t stop the bleeding, the whole game will die.
Tough decisions need to be made.
They’ve had 15 years and there’s no hope for the future.

Rebels face more hurdles despite $25m rescue plan, call on RA to show support and reveal hand as court battle looms

Wrong.
In the past 15 years we’ve had QLD and NSW both win the tournament.
We’ve also had the brumbies in the finals and reasonably competitive the whole time which is far more than can be said for the worst of the Australian teams.
While you are wrong, I do however agree that our own national competition would be better. The concern is playing the kiwis regularly improves our players, so we’d need to somehow incorporate that.

Imagine sucking much needed resources from the national game for 15 years (while criminally trading insolvent the last 5) with bugger all to show for it, then when people suggest putting a stop it, take action to bring the whole game in this country down?
No, fk em. No sympathy.
I did have sympathy but the moment they threatened the whole game was the moment they lost me.
It means you, me, none of us would have teams to support.

Fair comments.
They won’t deserve that tag if they’re still 5th at the end of the season.
But, you’re clearly more confident than I am of where they’ll finish.

Come on mate, I said “this year”.
I’ve read your comments for years and would side with you more often than not, but that’s out of line to misrepresent like that.

It says they were beaten by the rebels.
Surely no one is arguing the highlanders, drua, waratahs, moana pacífica or force are super rugby standard this year.
“Many” is a stretch, since the competition resumed in 2020 the rebels haven’t finished above both in the table even once.

Can agree to disagree on this one.
I am of the opinion a team is not super rugby standard if they are not competitive against the super rugby teams who are.
38-11 blues
39-0 crusaders
54-28 hurricanes
53-26 reds
30-3 brumbies.
If they are 5th at the end of the season once they’ve played all the teams, I will happily cede this, but you’d be a brave man to bet on that.

38-11 last night.
39-0 against the worst crusaders side in living memory the week before.
This is not super rugby standard.
They’ve had a favourable draw and great they’ve won against some rubbish teams, but they’ve been demolished against anyone that mattered.
Let’s see how they end up, because my money is on them losing to the reds, chiefs, brumbies and Fiji to finish and even if they make the finals (how many times has that happened in 15 years) they’ll get spanked like the substandard team they are in the first round and it’ll be over.
Great they’ve performed better this year, but too little too late.

Management by the rebels has been criminal and are primarily to blame.
Supporters will lose their team, players and employees lose their job, rugby Australia loses Victoria. Everyone loses.
And their response is that they’ll try take rugby in this country down with them?
Fk em.
Not one season in 15 years have they shown they are super rugby quality.
They haven’t shown anything other than an acceptance of mediocrity, languishing at the bottom of the table.
They surrender points to kiwi teams and only bother to turn up to try take points off the other Australian teams.
The gravy train is over, stop giving every child a participation award. They are not competitive and worse, their existence means the other teams are less competitive.
The rebels fans don’t deserve this, but the management and players do.

The brumbies would make the rebels stronger, but there’s nothing the rebels can teach the brumbies.
Win for the rebels, but a net loss for the brumbies and their supporters- having done more to further Australian rugby than the other provinces, they don’t deserve that.

'We've got three pay cheques left': Rebels given glimmer of hope - but the clock is still ticking

Why should the brumbies be punished for poor management at the rebels?
The brumbies consistently deliver quality players for the wallabies and consistently perform in super rugby, they should be left doing what they do well.

'We've got three pay cheques left': Rebels given glimmer of hope - but the clock is still ticking

Yes more players will go overseas, but it will be the lower quality players largely.
There will always be ones that slip through the gap, but there is currently too many “squad” level players in each 23 every week.
It’s charity at the moment, the standard to get a super rugby contract needs to be higher. The bottom 20% needs to drop off.
We need to raise the quality, It’ll be a net gain overall, one we need.

'Our talent is spread too thin': Ex-Wallabies captain urges Rugby Australia to cut Super teams

Wells always seems to come across critical of others in his team. Seems to always have a chip on his shoulder.
Has Williams captained through age groups anyone? Any commentary on that?

'Looking to future: Cron bypasses Super veterans White and Wells to name 23-year-old skipper

He has explained that with the risk of injury (especially hia) and cards (considering our recent history) we would need multiple captains in the World Cup, but the reality is he saw a team devoid of leadership and felt the best way to improve this in a short time was to give multiple players the captaincy role so that there would be multiple players on the field taking a leadership position when it was needed. It’s a very clever strategy considering the time constraints.
but with the unfortunate injuries to AAA, Skelton and Tate the remaining leaders have not stood up as they should have.

'F---ing explain some of these decisions': Ex-Wallaby star's scathing Eddie critique, coach defends vision

Fiji deserved that.
Wallabies were poor and should be ashamed of themselves.
But the ref was extremely quick to penalise against aus and seemed to miss a lot in favour of Fiji… “just enough to influence the game”

'Eddie got found out': Jones in spotlight as 'ferocious' Fiji leave Wallabies RWC hopes hanging by thread in 69 year first

HI initially thought Issak Fines-Leleiwasa would need to start in place of Tate, but you don’t beat Fiji by playing unstructured rugby. That’s what they want. Nick white with his superior game management and kicking game is how you strangle Fiji. I think he’ll start IFL going forward, but Fiji is different to the northern hemisphere teams, you don’t want to get into their style of game. If they control the tempo you’re toast.

Yes understand, their interest in overseas players is non-existent.

Ex-All Blacks World Cup winner could still earn Wallabies call-up by Eddie, Australia A to play Portugal in Paris

He would make the wallabies better, he’s a superior halfback than alternatives, but it doesn’t sit well with me that he’s only interested in Australia because Nz is not interested in him.
If he signs for a super rugby team for next year I’d take him, but if he’s just using us to try get a ticket to the World Cup, I’d rather we didn’t.

Ex-All Blacks World Cup winner could still earn Wallabies call-up by Eddie, Australia A to play Portugal in Paris

Nice that all five teams and an Anzac team will play the lions, but hoping they aren’t all played before the tests… the biggest advantage we have is that the lions don’t have combinations, the more time they have together, the better they’ll get. Make ‘em play super rugby teams mid week inbetween the tests, give them a tight schedule- let’s not do them any favours.

CONFIRMED: Lions tour dates, venues announced with big twist on Anzac XV concept and every SR team playing

Fair.
Point still stands though, it’s gotta be worth it. The “ball in play time” improvement this year was def a step in the right direction.
Currently I’m not going to the games because I enjoy it; it’s because I want to support the franchise- that support isn’t going to happen too many times a year.

All very valid points, but even a very modest 4 beers is close to $55, $20 for a ticket and $20 for a nibble and we’re basically at $100 vs watching it at home for free.
The reality is if we go out for dinner, have a few drinks pre and post game and an Uber home it’s far more than a that. My partner and I earn good money, if we can’t justify it on our incomes, there’s just no chance they’ll convince a casual fan.

I’m as big of a rugby fan as I know, but going to the games is a hard sell. Cold, expensive, no atmosphere, I much prefer to watch my team lose in the comfort of my own home.
Focus needs to be on packing the stadium, forget trying to make money- bring down the costs and make it fun, give me something I can’t get from home, because at $13 a beer they aren’t likely to get me out for more than a game a year.
