"A few words about you" eh? Well, it's the English-language second person singular (or plural) pronoun and can be used either in informal OR more formal contexts, having long replaced the now archaic forms "thou" and "thee". So, in short, a bloody good all-round word. Every club should have at least three "yous" on the team if they want to have a serious shot at making the finals. Indeed, some coaches refer to their entire team using the more colloquial plural form "yous", especially when they're more than ten goals down at three- quarter time, e.g. yous are just a bunch of ....

Last time I checked there was (still) a distinction between mentioning something and ‘worrying’ about it. Then again perhaps you’re right: maybe this particular coach DOES have a particularly strong tendency this season to let all manner of things get to him – and his team. Or is a smoke screen going up, you think? Getting worried?

So it’s Collingwood versus the SCG

I also enjoyed reading your take Christian. To be honest, whatever happens from here on in – and let’s face it, anything can happen – this team has given its supporters (and not only the Pie faithful) so much H&A joy and excitement that, well, que sera sera. Collingwood will always have its diehard detractors (to say the least) but this year the team has actually managed to win over a swathe of admirers. And that’s something in itself.

Collingwood’s triumph over adversity: Six reasons why they can go all the way

Breaking the silence on this one … to say, let the Sound of Silence ring out. Or at worst Miao instead of Roar. Put behind Prison Bars and forget.

Time for Collingwood and Port to meet in the middle on 'prison bars' stoush

Macca, you say You shouldn’t really measure your success solely against being better than Carlton. Not unless you’d been brought up a diehard Pies supporter and the first GF you went to, as a starry-eyed kid, was 1970. And then went to them all till the early 80s.

September comes early for Melbourne and Collingwood in blockbuster finals preview

And Macca just look at who’s lined up in public to say the AFL/umpires got it woefully wrong. Even the AFL itself said well, maybe the umps got it just that little bit wrong because you see what they REALLY meant was in such cases ….. (bleuaaahhhh!!) And they go on about avoiding concussion FFS. Pathetic, just like Lethal said, plain and simple. But then I guess Lethal’s just another Pies fanatic, right? So what next? Flying Full Nelsons, just so long as they comply with “AFL regulations”? There was a time when the delicate slant of rule interpretation was supposed to lean (if anything) towards the guy attempting to get the ball. Kinda made sense on principle, yeah? But then Ginnivan is a young n’ flashy forward, has flashy white hair, particular moves and …. plays for Collingwood.

AFL News: Ginnivan deserved free but initiated contact, Hawkins to play on, COVID hits North, Greene to repair image

Matthews actually said I felt sick. That was virtually not only a high contact headlock, it was bordering on unduly rough play But then Macca & co, what would L-LM know about footy, or about rough play if it comes to that, eh? IMHO Ginnivan should simply shave off his hair, the real unrecognised culprit in this whole story.

AFL News: Ginnivan deserved free but initiated contact, Hawkins to play on, COVID hits North, Greene to repair image

So Macca, “Pies supporters seldom admit they were wrong. ????”, eh? And who decided they actually were wrong to begin with? Non-Pies supporters of course. So the Bright Side of the Moon is, well, bright, while the Dark Side is, uhm …. But in the end it’s all there in Black n’ White, innit? 😉

Spot on Oracle. I’ll never forget Billy Pickens taking flyers – if not outright screamers – week in, week out at Victoria Park. Or the TV replays from Glenferrie Road, where Peter Knights would soar over packs time and again, snatching the ball clean out of the air. Two truly great markers and truly great centre half backs. Two true greats. RIP Bill Pickens.

How Collingwood ended up as 2022's biggest wildcards

Topper, on the way home the Pies have got some tough Clashes to face. But they’re gonna Rock the Casbah for sure! Woodies Can’t Fail!

“Laurie Fowler and Big Nic”. Saw that one as kid from ground level, about 10-15 rows back from the fence. Can still picture it now, without YouTube. As a Pies uber-fanatic whose first GF experience was 1970, I hated Carlton (as a team) to the core, but that so-called ‘bump’ in the stratosphere was sickening, literally. Like planes colliding. Made me nauseous. Fowler didn’t give a … about the ball, just set out cold to take Nick down. I don’t think Fowler was even reported for it when he should have been put in a cage with Jim O’Dea (who ended my boyhood hero’s brilliant career) and Leigh Matthews – OK Lethal was a champ and a Pies premiership coach but those cowardly king-hits of his remain on the record for all to see. Oh, and big friendly wave to Phil Manassa while we’re on the subject, ha ha ha.

How good? Like reliving the 1970s, Oracle, that’s how: twelve suburban teams with four in the finals, no byes, no fixture follow-ups, no rule-messing, plus … the magic of Peter McKenna, Sergio Silvagni and Royce Hart. That good. Or something a little bit like it, anyway.

Right with you there PS. Each Beatin’ the Blues buries 1970 that little bit deeper (but never deep enough, never deep enough! 😢 )

How Collingwood ended up as 2022's biggest wildcards

CK often thought the same but the closies-with-the-lowies could well been galvinising the Pies right on cue. Time n again, Pies win with pressure, pressure, pressure and that needs mettle, including heavy-duty Steele. Let’s see if the youngies-oldies alloy really is fit for purpose, i.e. ladder-rung material AND Cat-scratch resistant.

Spot on Macca. Pies vertical black, Cats horizontal blue: Venus and Mars (but remember M. Damon got back from Mars on crap-fuelled spuds and a torn tarp). Sure Macca, Cats are the gold standard. But even the gold standard can, uhm, wobble when the pressure’s cranked up. T. Hawkins and N. Diacos also Venus and Mars, both shining bright. But who’ll shine brighest – and longest – in 2022 ya reckon?

How Collingwood ended up as 2022's biggest wildcards

Macca, you reckon “Colligwood have done very well and clealry outperfromed expectations, but there is no doubt the have had a fair bit of luck”. All I can say is about bloody time (the luck part, that is)! Check out their injury sheets (especially start-of-season) for oh say the last 5 years. Luck sometimes turns. Gotta have depth? Well this year it’s come in spades: Pies digging deep and unearthing some amazing young talent. These Woods were made for growing!

How Collingwood ended up as 2022's biggest wildcards

Grundy’s been out for a bit, Woods’ve been winning for a bit. OK, been cold for a bit so maybe just coincidence … hmm. Anyway BG gets plenty of (i.e. practically all) boundary hitouts, is v. active and agile round the ground for a tall, but then:
1. Whoever ‘instructed’ him to get so damn far UNDER the peaking ball at centre bounces should have their Sherrins forceably deflated, and
2. Even when he DOES straighten for (and finally win) those centre bounces, the ball often manages to head off of BG palm towards opponents’ goal. Noticed?
OK, (the absence of) one single player is not everything. But the shake up after his (temp) exit has seen the slick ball movement of old return and (most importantly) the pressure gauge go back up to 11 – where it belongs.
All BS? Maybe. Don’t shoot me, I’m only the crapmeister.
