Sorry OT, the Crusaders are out. I need a kiwi team to loathe so the top placed gets it by default…

Thirteen reasons why the Hurricanes must win the Super Rugby title

I had to have a laugh at Cully’s article this week titled “the waratahs a better chance than you think” or something like that. It could easily have been titled “I’m bitter about the tahs winning last year and i’ve taken great joy in writing them off all year but now have to admit what many tahs fans have known for most of the season because if I don’t i’ll look like a galah”. I’ve got another headline for July 5th IF the tahs win. “Bruising defence wins back to back titles”. This year was never going to be the same as last year with everyone familiar with the tahs attack and the concentration issues that always haunt a title winning side in the following season. Going back to back is all about mentality and defence is the best indicator of mentality. The great crusaders sides always made a habit of peaking at the right time based around confidence they could get the job done when it mattered and a watertight defence and i get the same feeling with this tahs side.

Waratahs’ rails run about to pay off

I DONT WANT TO SETTLE DOWN!!! DONT TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!!!! ha ha! sorry…

Cheika names Hunt in train-on squad

yeah i was actually really impressed with Hunt on the weekend. hes not going to make it this year but he’s a chance next year when a lot of players are overseas

Cheika names Hunt in train-on squad

yeah whats with that?! Kafe is so anti tahs its not funny! I think sitting next to Kearns every week for years has finally got to him!

Cheika names Hunt in train-on squad

i havent seen much of hunt all year but i thought he was very impressive on the weekend. He hit the ball up very hard and defended well except for the mckibbin try. how good was his hit on taqele?! Just said i’m bringing you down whatever it takes you big !#!%$%!!! still nowhere near a wallabies jersey but i think cheika would be thinking to next year for him

Wallabies announce train-on squad for Rugby Championships

Force are the only team to beat the defending champions twice so they are obviously favorites to win this year. Nz and sa teams have the favorable conferences because they only have to play the force once or not at all in the regular season. Hurricanes have scored the most competition points though but lost to the tahs and crusaders are the best team because they’ve got the best blokes in world rugby in their team so they ll probably win it. (Note for the slower amongst us: this post involves heavy sarcasm and mild instances of satire). Nothing else matters except lifting the trophy including no amount of whinging about conference structures, referees, poison bearing waitresses, foul play or player hairstyles (the last bit is sarcasm free)

SPIRO: With Carter and McCaw gone, is it the beginning of a Waratahs era?

Mate I was replying to bunyips comment!! I have been supporting the team for 20 years and I’m not so fickle that the selection of halfback determines the extent to which I support my team! If you know their strengths and weaknesses so well you should go into coaching! I’m just happy to support the team and let people like you who know the game so well to tell Michael cheika what to do! I’ll stop dreaming and become the angry know it all supporter because that’s definitely what we need!! Happy Sunday buddy xx

Michael Cheika checks in at last

Great article! Spiro is definitely the king of the fax machine!!

A conversation in a bar about mauls

Your loyalty and commitment are an inspiration to all!! If only we had more fans like you….

Michael Cheika checks in at last

also remember that quade (53) and genia (58) are available for the wallabies after a few more tests each for next year when they are overseas. both are 27 i think. Still plenty of time for them to play for the wallabies in the future

Cheika's choice: Pick your Wallaby 12 and work backwards

I want to add to that by saying I’ll be over the moon if Beale, Toomua, CL, Giteau and Kerevi and whoever else all relish and embrace the competition for spots and really raise each others games to the point where even if you disagree with the selection you have no choice but to acknowledge that whoever is picked will do the job!

Cheika's choice: Pick your Wallaby 12 and work backwards

I’ve been thinking about this for ages and can’t come up with an answer. All tick certain boxes but none tick all the boxes. I’ve actually changed my line of thought to the opposite of the article after having the same mindset as the author for ages. I think maybe the best way to solve the dilemma is to pick 12 last, based on who you’re picking around him. Maybe that is easier. There are no definite answers to this dilemma.

I wanted Kuridrani tried at 12 a year ago but i feel its too late for that now. AAC could play it but we know his best position is definitely 13 and kuridrani is also very good at 13. Toomua solves the defensive issues at 12 but doesn’t offer the attacking threat of a beale or giteau. i also don’t think that Toomua has been particularly good in a gold jersey and in the important games has been very easy to shut down in attack.

the problem with beale is that when you have front foot quick ball he is probably the player you want most with the ball in his hands. at any other time of the game he is probably the player you want least to be anywhere near the ball. I do like kurtley’s stunt double Rob Horne and getting kurtley to fullback and horne to centre on defence has been an absolute masterstroke by cheika.

kerevi, who knows? he is still very raw and nobody yet knows how he will respond with his game when playing test rugby. i would say he will be given a chance sometime this year but its way too early to ask that much of him.

Giteau and JOC could come into the equation too but it needs to be trialled early.

I’m definitely feeling a lot better about the wallabies squad at the moment. There will be some good players that miss out, even in the forwards. With a bit of luck with injuries (touch wood) we could take a really competitive squad over. I really hope that we don’t hear the usual whinging from some supporters at this time of year that Cheika is biased and he’s not taking enough players from my state! I really hope that everyone gets behind the wallabies this year, we will need all the support we can get!

Cheika's choice: Pick your Wallaby 12 and work backwards

ummm, a lot has happened with AAC since 2007…

Cheika's choice: Pick your Wallaby 12 and work backwards

Yeah I really don’t see a problem here at all for Australia. We have the NRC (as much as I hate those stupid ELVs!) and we have more fringe players getting exposure at super rugby level through having 5 teams. Tahs won the title last year and are in it again with the Brumbies this year. Yes wallaby results are still a bit crappy but i don’t think we can be doing anything more below the national level.

Bad Super Rugby conferences and a trio of future 'Boks catch the eye

Exactly, the rebels have been ok and the force were good last year. Chiefs cheetahs lions and blues have all been in the same boat. I like all the teams and would hate to see any go (except the crusaders of course!)

Bad Super Rugby conferences and a trio of future 'Boks catch the eye

i can understand why the kiwis are upset but I’ve got to say I find it really boring all the conference discussion. If a team finished 7th they still have to win 3 finals games in a row to win it (most likely 2 of them away from home). It’s a cup competition which means you need to peak at the right time. If any team wins it from seventh it will probably go down as one of the all time great wins (like the crusaders winning their maiden from 4th)

Bad Super Rugby conferences and a trio of future 'Boks catch the eye

Pollard looks like the goods, I’m not too sure about the others just yet and I wouldn’t be trialling them this year that’s for sure. I’m pretty sure a fit quade cooper will always go to the World Cup. He’s just been injured but not a bad way to come back first game… I’m not at all worried about fly half for the wallabies I’ll be happy with cooper or foley. it’s 12 that creates the biggest headaches with every option having significant weaknesses and also playing a huge part in who is 10, 13 and maybe even 15. There is pretty much no time to figure it out either

Bad Super Rugby conferences and a trio of future 'Boks catch the eye

Yep exactly. You get a tackle slightly wrong and suddenly you’re a grub!

Phipps says Waratahs will play fair, but not nice

What’s the Mail on tatafu? I heard he was a chance for this weekend?

Super Rugby run home: A thrilling two weeks to come

Agreed Jerry! I knew exactly what it was!

SPIRO: Where there's no Will, there's no way for the Waratahs

I would say dangerous at worst AJ. I don’t think any one in this day and age goes out to tip someone on their head. Yes we still see dirty acts in the heat of the moment but I think the head and neck are sacrosanct.

SPIRO: Where there's no Will, there's no way for the Waratahs

Amen Richard! What about the Nathan grey tackle on O’Driscoll lions 2001? That would probably get a ban right now. Past the horizontal and landed on his shoulders.

grey…

Thats not what I am saying Shane. I am saying his head was displaying the motions of an unconcious person before he hit the ground. He entered the tackle concious and then he was “unconcious” before he hit the ground. this is a side issue anyway. my opinion is that he was faking, im happy to give him the benefit of the doubt (although I admit im surprised that more people haven’t seen it the way I saw it because straight away when watching the game I called it as a fake) because its a nothing debate compared to the bigger picture.

My point isn’t about whitelock and it isn’t about one team or one country. if you allow the players the possibility to gain something from pretending they’re injured, they will. We have seen this in other sports and those other sports are all moving/talking about moving away from it because they see that it has become detrimental to their games.

Why, are we in rugby pretending that it won’t happen? And to return to my earliest post im not just talking about faking injuries but over use and misuse of the video ref. Have you seen a league game lately? The refs barely ever award a try straight up they check everything and are so scared to make a mistake. We are already seeing that in union, every try thats being scored the captain is racing over to the ref and saying check for obstruction or some other thing.
